    I read another knitter's post suggesting starting the hat as if you have already done the increases to the required number and hold the live stitches on a cable. You later return and decrease the hat at the beginning so ends of hat match perfectly. I can't wait to try that technique. Thanks to the person who suggested that.

    You could slide the long circular, after slipping the first half of the last stitches onto the tail yarn, so that you are working off the tip of the circular needle.

    Hi there. I bought the pattern a while back, but found it a bit daunting, so these 3 videos are amazing. Many thanks. I now feel confident to knit the pattern and am looking forward to it in the new year. By way of giving something back, Patty Lyons has a great video on an alternative way to SSK.

    Thank you for showing us how to “tidy up” the ends of the Musselburgh hat. This decrease method is how I was shown 50 odd years ago when knitting jumpers with raglan sleeves (k2tog tbl) Thank you for reminding me 🙋🏼🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    Thanks, Margaret. I love your analogy of the house with its back door and front door. Brilliant! I will forever be grateful to you when knitting socks as I always have to stop and think about when to do the SSK.

      @@dianelakata1308 You could try it that way but I did 3 rows of each colour for this hat. Another easy way to make a Musselburgh is to use a self striping yarn. My nephew just finished his and I will show it on my next episode.

    Thank you so much for these videos! They are very helpful! I definitely like the way you are doing decreases on the hat instead of the ssk. Just had a quick question, when you are doing the toe decreases for your socks, do you do k2tog for both sides of decreases or do you use the ssk and k2tog because of the direction of stitches?

    • @mywonderfulknittinglife
      @mywonderfulknittinglife  6 дней назад +1

      A good question! Yes, I knit 2 together through the back loop instead of asking and it seems to work just fine.

    I found instead of an SSK, slip the stitch as if to knit, knit the next stitch and pass slipped stitch over, it mimics the other side of knit two together. You could also slip the stitch as if to purl, just be consistent.

    I am trying this pattern, I am using magic loop. when I finish with the crown increases and get to the part of just knitting in the round, do you stay using the magic loop on the same needles as started thruout doing the body of the hat? Hope this is clear in what I am asking. Appreciate any help

    • @mywonderfulknittinglife
      @mywonderfulknittinglife  2 дня назад

      I knit the whole hat using magic loop but if you have a small circular you could use that too. I love magic loop and use it for socks, cowls and sleeves.

      Ok another stupid question, if I continue to use magic loop to complete the hat - do I alternate with knit and purl or just knit using magic loop

      Not yet! It is spending some time in the time-out corner. I will definitely start over and knit it in the round with steeks in a smaller size (large rather than xl). I have finished 2 of her sweaters, though. 2025 is going to be a year for finishing wips for me. I am currently finishing up my rannunculus and hopefully others very soon. Wishing you a happy New Year too!

    What size needles are you using? And are you using fingering or sock yarn?

    • @mywonderfulknittinglife
      @mywonderfulknittinglife  Месяц назад +1

      For this hat I used 3.5mm Chiaogoo circular needles. If you are a loose knitter I would suggest going down to a 3.25mm or 3mm. The yarn is a fingering weight sock yarn. 75% merino and 25% nylon. Hope that helps.

    At 4:08 you say knit 2 , but looks like you meant to say K2TogTBL. The other one is a K2togTFL.

    • @mywonderfulknittinglife
      @mywonderfulknittinglife  9 дней назад

      Yes, in order to decrease at the beginning of a section it is a Knit 2 together through the back loop and at the end there is a Knit 2 through the front loop.
