You made some great points, artists can be professional and amateur, it is a complicated topic when discussing professional and amateur artists, but for me, the professional part comes in when teaching art to a class full of students that stare right at us while expecting a high level of professionalism, at least for me, because I had to learn colour mixing myself, before I can teach it to the classes I did, not only that, I had to educate myself on the techniques, the types of brush strokes to use, the types of brushes to use, it all becomes a huge level of professionalism in the classroom, but outside that, artists can be professionals or amateurs.
It definitely is a complicated topic and there are so many dogmatic opinions about it. The enormous price differences between contemporary art also doesn’t make it easier.
Art is what a person puts on the canvas, no matter what it is or looks like. If one person likes that painting amd buys it then all of the labels put on art and artists go out the window!
