When you got out & showed the mini almost sunk to the top of her tracks, I was worried that she was stuck due to the depth of the mud. And as soon as I thought that I remembered who I was watching!😁 This made me think of the swampy clearing job where you had to cut ditches in to drain before you could do any work. Man, if I were a neighbor and you were doing this, I'd be right there saying, "Would it help to come over here? Come on over and drain my land too!" Really nice job, Chris. Once again I was glued to my screen and was surprised that 40 min flew by. Thanks.

Chris--on these jobs you have a good eye for grade and slope. Plus your new excavator may have some device. Long time ago, when I was student I had two summer jobs surveying for the Dept Highways. In the dry country in Southern British Columbia. The season started in May with the return of warm weather and we had a D-9 with a ripper on back. An outcrop of very weathered and fractured rock had to be taken out. And the "Nine" with the ripper tore into the rock. Problem was that it contained a rattle snake bed for the winter. So, there we were with confused and annoyed rattlers everywhere. The engineer observed that the poor snakes: "Did not have a pit to hiss in."

Hey Chris, Here in the UK, what you've just done is called "Gripping". We used to do it on the Moorlands to drain it off so the farmers can used the land.
Gripping did have an affect on the rivers because the Moorlands acted like a sponge during the rainy times and then slowly released that water into the rivers during the dry summer months.

Years ago many pickups with automatic transmissions had a drive selector arm. This arm was similar to the column shift arm on standard transmissions. My grandfather had his dog in the front seat like Winston. he left the pickup to open the farm gate and the dog got excited, stepped on the selector arm and put the car in drive. The dogs trip lasted quite a while.
