Crazy in less 10 minutes you can have a whole other operating system unlocking thousands of more games and possibilities im so hyped for my deck just bought it literally today now the waiting game :)

Hi I just got my steam deck and I followed ur method and it worked but I could no longer use the sd card on steam os, is it possible to partition the sd card so I can still have some extra storage for my steam os. I would probably partition the 512 in half and install windows on the 256 side and still have 256 for steam

Yes you can, also works with an external SSD, but youll need a USB dock if you plan to charge the battery while using the steam deck since your only way of charging it is blocked

Setting your network to metered keeps windows from downloading stuff or using your connection in the background. I set any windows install to metered for this reason. It has to ask permission.
Why does every tutorial say you need a USB drive? You can literally just download the files directly on your steam deck in Windows. Brilliant tutorial though thank you! Got windows 11 on my SD card now :)

It's not technically dual boot. It has two independent drives. Dual booting is when a single boot drive is partitioned with more than one OS image. Great video.
Just had this issue and hopefully this helps On the rufus window you'll see a "Show advanced drive properties" dropdown Click that and select "List USB Hard Drives" And if all works well it should pick up your microsd
If I format it in SteamOS it gets all corrupted. I'm assuming I might need to use KDE partition manager to turn it into ext4? or is Exfat compatible with game mode?
Ive got a few questions, hopefully you reply but first of all my original comment was before i realized you cant get windows on oled but now i can, but somewhere along the way of following your tutorial and i messed up and put windows on the the usb drive instead of the mini sd card, im wondering if maybe youre aware of a way to just transfer everything from the drive to my mini sd card so i dont have to the whole process again and for some reason when i plug my sd card dock into my laptop it doesnt show up, but the dock does work because i can put a usb in and it will appear. I tried doing this for like 6 hours a few days ago cause the other people were skipping steps or just weren't explaining this correctly and because of them I ended up not only not getting windows but also deleting steam os of my steam deck along with everything on it, I did it with this video alone and all I had to do outside of installing everything was go to Walmart and get a usb adapter and micro Sd to hold the drivers

when install Windows it ask which partition to install there’s so many in there but your video didn’t mention the most important part . everyone knows how to SD installation media, but the hardest part is choosing the options while installing windows which you didn’t mention any . 👎 actually editing to give you 2x 👎👎

How do you get your SD card to be read on both windows and the deck? My brother set his to where he can transfer files from his pc to his deck but mine requires me to format it on each device before I can use it

Fun Fact: You can get straight to the Boot Manager by holding Minus instead of Plus when starting your deck.

@@harry619You dont need clover. The boot loader you can access by holding the volume down and power button will work just fine and is probably safer

Windows cache and file management loves burning out write state function on sd cards. I think extreme Sandisk might have a chance of a decent life.

If you download windows on the sd card you have to keep the sd card in. Windows 10 I think is worth it. Windows 11 isn’t worth it.

So if you just boot it up regularly after shutting down, will it automatically boot into steam or the boot manager?
It’ll usually boot into whatever OS you was in last.
