I got mine for $900 five years ago and will finally break 70,000 miles this week. Smoothest car I've ever driven.

Y & 9 are the two Olds 307s, Y is the 140 HP version, and the 9 is the 180 HP version that was used in the limited edition Hurst/Olds in 1983 FYI ,cool car anyways!

There was never a Chevy 307 in these.
They had absolutely no relation to the old Chevy 307s that just happened to have had the same displacement.
EVERY car, not just Oldsmobile, has a VIN character, either letter or number, that denotes the engine in the car.
The two styles of 307s were the original, which came in around 1981 or so, &….
The second style had roller lifters & I believe more restrictive valves, and different exhaust manifolds.
It’s usually a loose belt that makes that squeal.

    Nice, this brings back memories..
The 307 was a very good Oldsmobile-built engine made from 1980 to 1990.
Much better than the typical chevy junker, whose 307 was made 1968 to 1973...so unless you suspect someone swapped engines (?) your neat old Delta 88 should ONLY have an Oldsmobile engine if a 307.
Good luck....if you decide to keep it, I'd suggest joining an Oldsmobile club to make friends and learn about that vintage and the locations of good parts sources.

It’s very obvious, the differences in the two engines, Oldsmobile and Chevrolet.
You can always tell an Olds-built V-8 by the vertical oil fill tube in the front of the engine, and a much wider intake.
The later Olds engines had A LOT of vacuum lines, and the earlier Chevy 307 did not.

I’ve experienced glazed pulleys before, which make the belts squeal.
One thing is for sure, it’ll need new belts.

Even when new, these would not do a power brake burnout. Don't even try.

Is there a tension pulley on it? If there is, replace before it eats the belt.

Might be. I’m going to remove one belt at a time and see when the noise stops

      Nope.
Tension pulleys are on serpentine belt systems.
