You were right the first time you said isekai, like cobra kai. And the genre is essentially the title of this show, Life in another world sometimes restarting other times in your current body
Great show choice! Isekai is not a virtual/game world, it is when the protagonist is transported to or reincarnated (Isekai Tensei) in another real paralell world.
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe or even Wizard of Oz could be considered "Isekai". It's a literary tool to introduce a fantasy/strange world and have a protagonist who learns about this new world WITH the reader/watcher. That way exposition explaining how things work in this new world flows more naturally and creates a sense of wonder/mystery. There's a LOT of overlap with video games that have a similar premise (you the player got sucked into this fantasy game world and now can use magic and get to save the princess/kingdom) and that has bled into manga/anime.
The word "Isekai" means "Another World", and there are a few different ways one can get isekai'd Shows such as "The Rising of the Shield Hero" and "How the Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom" are isekai where the MC is summoned into another world Shows like "Mushoku Tensei", "Wise Man's Grandchild", and "That Time I Reincarnated as a Slime" are isekais where the MC is reincarnated into another world (usually after death) There are isekais where the MC is simply transported and trapped in a game, like Sword Art Online And there are isekais where a game becomes true reality after the MC is transported there, such as "How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord", and seasons 3 and 4 of Sword Art Online There's also reverse isekai, where something or someone from a different world is transported into the real world. Some reverse isekai are "Ms. Kobayashi's Dragon Maid" and "The Devil Is A Part-Timer" Some isekai have two of those elements within them, such as Overlord, an isekai where the game world becomes the real world (for the MC, that is), and the MC and his guild are transported into a completely different world as well. Isekai anime only qualify if the show is based around that world, or the major plot involves it. So animes like Fairy Tail aren't isekai, seeing as only one of several arcs are spent in that other world, and it has nothing to do with the main plot Edit: Re:ZERO would fall under "isekai where the MC is summoned into another world" It's definitely not a video game world lol Also, Subaru is one of the best written MCs of all time
My only advice with Re: Zero is to pay a lot of attention. What makes this anime so good is definitely the story. There are a lot of characters who have a lot of different motivations and a lot of secrets and there's a lot going on. So just... Be sure to pay attention. I saw a lot of other reaction channels get a bit lost who were joking around a lot and stuff. By season 2 they had no idea what was going on. But those who pay attention are rewarded with an amazing experience. You guys so far paid really close attention, I think you will be fine and will love this anime!

Isekai is a subgenre of fantasy in which a character is suddenly transported from their world into a new or unfamiliar one, be it geting traped in a Virtual world like Sword Art Online, No Game No Life, Overlord, and technically the original Digimon, trough re-incarnation (most common) like Slime, Saga of Tanya the Evil, Konosuba etc. trough a portal like "Gate!" (No, Not Stain's gate), or just magically getting transported there like Re-Zero

While this is a great Isekai, a big appeal comes from knowledge of common Isekai tropes. Not to worry you guys but just something that should be said. The overall gist is a power fantasy where you're summoned to another world/game and get pretty much anything someone could want. Of course things can switch up but that's the most common type.
Remember on Rick and Morty when Morty had "checkpoints"? He didn't go back in time, every time he reset he killed another Morty in another universe where the exact same events happened at a different point in time and replaced him. Isekai is going to another world, by dying, summoning, etc. either the another world is a different world or the game he played last Overlord is an anime where the main dude plays the game and then just teleports with his in game stats and guild to another world.
it's not a game, his parents in the real world are still searching for him, he plays a lot of games so he's just making references to games, but it's not actually a game, it's very real
Really glad you choose to follow this anime. One of my favorites isekai. By the way, Isekai = Another World (lit.). It's a genre where a character it's teleported to a different world. shit take tbh you cant hate on this dub at all. Easily one of the best dubs imo of all time. Now if you prefer sub thats fine but to shit on this dub is like saying that FMA's dub is bad. you just sound stupid.
I haven't put much effort into worrying about it but honestly, when I saw my first dubbed Subaru clip used in a video essay (Subaru in the first ep's first half no less) I thought, this guy doesn't get Subaru's character. And now? Hearing Emilia's va is kind of distressing. I definitely do not hear Spoilers I guess. Extremely traumatised half elf who masks by playing on people's fear of the witch, sure kind of hyper and often enthusiastic but not because she's confident instead she's a people pleaser who also doesn't want friends in case they get hurt. I know I'm over thinking it but god it's so painful given I know most people think she has no development or fleshing out in the beginning, so never read into her psychology from the start even though it all sets up frozen bond and season 2.
holy shit!! yes!! this would be great!! probably someone already explained, but anyways. isekai es any anime that has a world transfer in its plot. re:zero is one of the isekais that doesn't have anything to do with videogames, thats why at the start he was thinking he was the protagonist in his own anime and thinking he would have powers, but nope. re:Zero its, for some (like me) one of if not the best isekai. the story is awesome, the meaning on a lot of think is so deep and just awesome.
The Shopkeeper is Endeavor from My Hero I think? And Puck is Gon from Hunter Hunter if youve seen that, and a ton of other shows. Also this is a great show, but don't expect to get answers or to guess a lot of stuff correctly.. You won't know many things for a looooong time lol... Its like an Onion but it unpeels veeeery slowly.. But the Author is great.
Quick explanation: "Isekai" means "transported to another world". "Tensei" is "reincarnation". So sometimes you'll see Isekai manga and anime where they get sent to another world. And sometimes you'll see "Isekai Tensei" where they're reincarnated in another world. Sword Art Online is sort of a grey area where it's often considered an Isekai because they get trapped in "another world", but it's actually more of an "VR MMO" anime. Lots of purists argue it's not an Isekai. An old famous Isekai you might have heard of is "Inuyasha".
Purist are bullshit. SAO is clearly an isekai, even if the author negates it, a virtual video game world its still "another world", it dosent matter if is a world within the real world.
@@megafantasyzx I think the moment they're stuck there and have to live there for years it's "another world" imo. But I can see why purists argue against it. I just see no difference between SAO and that being another world, but not being an Isekai, while shield hero has game windows and exp and it's an Isekai. It's the same thing.
Finally!! Great fucking choice guys. But I feel like the sub is way better for this anime since it has a lot of emotions in it and the original voice acting is on the next level. Btw isekai doesnt mean being in a video game. It means getting transported to another world. Sword Art online is an isekai cuz the world of the video game the main character is in is like an isekai world.
i also think the sub has a way better voice acting than the dub . but dont take me wrong the dub is good but the sub is amazing , at least in my opinion
You should watch Mushoku Tensei before any other isekais. Lots of isekai tropes were started with Mushoku Tensei. It's also one of the best anime you'll ever see.
So its actually pronounced "E-sec-kai". The last "i" is the long sound instead of the short sound. In isekai the main character is transported to another world either by some magical or divine intervention or rebirth. Often times the main character gains abilities that will help them in the new world. Alot of Isekai worlds are very real but operate akin to fantasy roleplaying games. Isekai is ver popular in Japan, hence why the main character thinks it should work a certain way.
and the titles are from the trend of web novels that are intended to basically be a plot synopsis in order to get a curious reader to know what they are picking right away. and, finally, a comment about the i-sek-keeyyy pronunciation. not like its life or death, but, man.

I haven't put much effort into worrying about it but honestly, when I saw my first dubbed Subaru clip used in a video essay (Subaru in the first ep's first half no less) I thought, this guy doesn't get Subaru's character. And now? Hearing Emilia's va is kind of distressing. I definitely do not hear
Spoilers I guess.
Natsuki Subaru has an natural ability
PHOTOGRAPHIC MEMORY it helps out a lot for what he is for
THIS!
This is amazing
Every prediction was off haha, but it’s fine. Good react
holy shit!! yes!! this would be great!!
probably someone already explained, but anyways.
isekai es any anime that has a world transfer in its plot.
re:zero is one of the isekais that doesn't have anything to do with videogames, thats why at the start he was thinking he was the protagonist in his own anime and thinking he would have powers, but nope.
re:Zero its, for some (like me) one of if not the best isekai.
the story is awesome, the meaning on a lot of think is so deep and just awesome.
Oh shit, this is the directors cut, fuck yeah!!!
Oh shit. You two just started a journey
I can't wait for you to meet a CERTAIN character. People that have seen this already know who I'm talking about.
the catboy?
@@beelzebub6414~ Bingo.
By far the best isekai anime that exists, and the anime isnt even halfway through the story
Not halfway is an understatement tbf the Web novel is about to get to halfway
And the anime needs 2/3 seasons of 24 episodes each to catch up to arc 7
Wow tought i had a dejavu haha. I was sure i watched this with you untill the end of season 2, but these are the youtube cuts.
You guys are in for a ride.
This was a majority of the cast's breakout anime roles. Sean Chiplock who voices Subaru had never voiced a major named anime character before Re:Zero.
yay now i can start back up on this!
YES. can't wait for the new seasons.
You are in for a ride
i'd recommend the sub because the voice acting in the sub is better, but the dub is not bad i guess
up
Yeahhhhh Finally re:zero! IM SO HYPED
This is not a game its his reality now
The reason he uses lots of game terminology is that usually MCs in Isekai are depicted as nerd gamers
re:zero is an excellent anime and has become one of my favorite animes, I'm praying for a third season.
YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS I LOVE RE:ZERO SO EXCITED FOR THIS
Re Zero 1st season might be GOAT isekai
Simple meaning Isekai = protagonist belongs to some other world and is teleported to a new world or is reborn in a new world.
Why watching Re:Zero dub when Original Voice Acting is one of best in all anime maybe the best.
Stop fan boying no it's not
@@philo2189 Re:Zero has the best voice acting, i don't think anything even close to it.
i also think the sub has a way better voice acting than the dub . but dont take me wrong the dub is good but the sub is amazing , at least in my opinion
pay attention to the anime, it will try to make importance of everything.
You are NOT prepared :D
Too bad it's not subs, but seems it's a decent dub.
OH
MY
GOD!
I'M HYPED
Sword Art Online aged so well. You should revisit it and watch the new seasons. They made anime good. Legit good.
