I think the saddest thing that this story really proved is that, there is so much potential in the Green Lantern lore, but DC avoids it like the plague. They let one bad movie ruin their perception of one of their most important totems
Agreed! Green Lantern has some truly incredible lore and mythos with so much untapped storytelling potential, and with good writing and a good vision, Green Lantern has the potential to become *DC's Star Wars* Yet after the 2011 movie flopping its only made Warner Bros scared of touching GL until James Gunn's DCU introduces GL again with the Lanterns Max show, and even then, they appear to be going in a different direction as Im happy that John Stewart will have a big part in the DCU and Aaron Pierre is bound to do a great job in the role, but the downside is they plan to have a 60-year-old Hal Jordan with Kyle Chandlers casting as Hal (solid casting tho) which is disappointing since it takes away the potential of seeing other Lantern Corps/Emotional Spectrum lore or diving into his character or iconic and complex rivalry with Sinestro. Blackest Night is my favourite DC comic event storyline. I adored the GL lore and mythos and how well they set up Blackest Night. I truly hope DC someday adapts this storyline. I pray they do it justice because it has so much potential to be built up naturally as the Endgame of Green Lantern stories, either as the ending of a Green Lantern reboot animated series or the final instalment of a Green Lantern film saga. Ive even written my own draft for a Green Lantern film saga set in James Gunn's DCU (even though it seems like they're going in a different direction with GL, which is unfortunate) and I have a lot of ideas, sketches, designs and written drafts for 6 Green Lantern films I have written down, with the final two movies adapting Blackest Night. I even have an idea for making Black Hand into a tragic, sympathetic villain by making him the same age and best friend as Kyle Rayner, who, in my pitch, are both are in their early 20s growing up and in college. Still, William would be stricken his whole life with mental problems and suicidal thoughts that are neglected by his family, and only Kyle truly cares about William. Still, Nekron would pose as Williams, with intrusive thoughts in his head, torturing his whole life until the moment Nekron plans to return and make William his avatar of the undead, his Black Hand. I would describe the relationship between my take on Kyle Rayner and William Hand to be very similar to Jayce and Viktor from Arcane as two best friends/spiritual brothers who care about each other but go down different paths and would make Kyle do anything to try and save William from Nekron's influence, even if the end of the universe is on the line. I also have other Lantern Corps, like the Red Lanterns and Sinestro Corps, play a role by trying to hunt down William, as well as the Guardians of the Universe and Green Lantern Corps hunting down Kyle along with Soranik Natu (Sinestro's daughter and Kyles girlfriend) Hal, John Stewart and Kilowog all try to help Kyle as they attempt to protect William from armies of Lanterns hunting them across the universe to prevent the Blackest Night.

Keep it up, and I am looking forward to see you two cover more Green Lantern material. It would be amazing if Warner Bros. actually did a shared universe correctly and lead up to this event. If done correctly, it would be the most spectacular action film ever.
The scene that sticks with me is Donna Troy’s dead baby coming back. When I first read it I didn’t even know anything about her character in the slightest, but I still remember being shocked that DC would show this young mother holding her baby’s rotting corpse while it called for her. And then they go and show ANOTHER dead baby with aquaman and red lantern mera!
I'd love to hear you guys talk about either your favorite Aquaman story arc or anything about the Marine Marvel lol. Your back and forth is incredible. Thanks for the awesome videos!
DC definitely let Geoff Johns cook with Blackest Night and I'm surprised that there's not an animated film adaptation of it. I guess a Marvel event similar in scale to Blackest Night would either be Mark Millar's original Civil War or Greg Pak's World War Hulk.

@@milkiassamuel780 I quite like that! I have been a LONG time fan of Kyle, I think Hals story was done with Emerald Twilight to be honest. Johns bringing him and Barry back hurt the stories more than helped, it was a selfish wish of his to bring back his favorites. Wally and Kyle had such good development to only get tossed aside for the silver age ones to replace them. I do like Johns having Sinestros corps be so bad just so the Guardians would rewrite the laws in such a way the GLs could actually kill to defend themselves and truly police the galaxy though, Sinestro took the hate and the hit to make his old team more effective, thats pretty badass.
@bZman To be fair I actually think brining back Hal Jordan really worked because it allowed Johns to explore Hal on a deeper level and truly allow him to expand his character to be so much more interesting and his rivalry and dynamic with Sinestro made them one of my favourite hero & villain rivalries, plus he helped expand the GL lore to be all the more fascinating and MASSIVE making GL into DC's Star Wars with he sci fi world building and alien species. However I do agree that brining back Barry Allen was a bit of a mistake and I do think it was unfair of how long they sidelined Wally West for over a decade and only now has the character gotten his title as the Flash, his family and legacy restored and rightfully so. I too love Kyle Rayner and I do wish more media used him since the idea of GL who's an artist is genius and I wanted to include him as a the main character for my second trilogy idea for a GL film saga and I think making him and Black Hand enemies but also former best friends would make an incredibly powerful and tragic story about suicide, destiny, love and support of friends, the beauty of our imperfections and the value of our emotions when life hits us hard, but also how beautiful life truly can be. I would compare their friendship and downfall to be similar to Viktor and Jayce from Arcane
@ i agree 100%. Bringing back Hal did give us a lot of good stories and it helped make Sinestro into an antihero. Its just a shame he was so overused that the rest of corps was ignored to focus on his silver age plots
@ you are the exact type of person id want to work with to write a GL series. Respect the past, keep Hal as the hero version, but focus on the others and how their personal lives can make them better GLs
Blackest Night is one of my all time favorite events in comics! I love the lore surrounding it, all the lantern corps, and all of the dead superheroes brought back to life. It is nothing short of epic. I would love to see this properly adapted for the DCU.
The spreads for this event were some of the greatest spreads that I've ever seen on a comic book. The one that comes to mind that I'd spend just minutes glaring at is the one with all the mains of the different cores saying their lantern oath.
Blackest Night, Crisis on Infinite Earths, and the more recent one with Anti-Monitor with Black Adam being captured to power the Monitor (can’t remember the name of it) but those are all the best ones right there.
It was actually Alan Moore who came up with the planet Ysmault, where the imprisoned demons told Abin-Sur of multiple prophecies. Because of those prophecies he was scared of his own ring failing him, hence the reason he flew a ship before he died. Geoff Johns then took that amazing lore, and added onto it with Atrocitus being one of the demons, and altering the prophecy that they spoke of as the Blackest Night. Anyways, love the video, keep it up!
Guys, I have to admit that I used to see the Dark Night event as just another big bad DC event, especially the story of the dead man coming back to life, but through your video I got to know more about the event and started to see the work from a new perspective and it is really good and I will read it, Allah willing, from the Green Liner series to the end and thank you for changing my perspective and for the amazing videos that are fun and inspire me to make my own comic story. Goodbye Thomas
Blackest night was the fair big event I read and led me to be the DC fan I am today, it sucks no one talks about it anymore and how much they sidelined all the lanterns
I don't think people talk about it because everything that came out of it sucked and then DC reboots with the New 52 and it's unclear what remained canon.
I remember when this arc was still going on and how big a deal it was. Still remember going to the library every week getting the volumes when I could.
This is my favorite event of all time! And my favorite GL event. It's so awesome. Although some parts are quite bizarre, it's the magnificent and massive events that caught me.
Blackest night is amazing. Best dc story. Geoff Johns did amazing and the artist is absolutely insanely good. My favorite artist and blackest night is his best work
The prophecy of the Blackest Night was first told to Abin Sur in Green Lantern annual 2 in 1986. Thought that version didn't say anything about the Emotional Spectrum, the War of Light, or the dead rising.
With James Gunn now in charge of DCU and new fresh takes, how would you want James Gunn or even yourself to incorporate this into the New DCU? Would you want it as a movie?
Blackest Night is my favourite DC Event. I mean it has some absolutely incredible moments but also some very dark and sad moments too. Some characters you care about die and characters you care about come back in a twisted form and there they die again.
When I was a kid I read Brightest Day before Blackest Night. I saw both of the trades on the shelf at my local bookstore and my only GL knowledge came from the Justice League animated series so I knew the creed went, "In brightest day, in blackest night." Naturally, I assumed that meant Brightest Day came first, and was very confused.

I will go on record saying this. Green lantern by Geoff johns, Ivan reis, and various. Is the greatest dc comics run of all time. Blackest night was nothing short of excellent. I’m going to read the other tie ins such as blackest night green lantern, green lantern corps, etc. I read the first volume of brightest day and it was very good. This whole saga is one of the many examples as to why. He’s the greatest dc comics writer of all time. Arguably the greatest comics writer ever. In my opinion
Blackest night was actually my first green lantern comic book, and even tho I was kinda confused on some of the lore and the storyline, I still enjoyed it so much that I bought 10 random green lantern comics the next day
8:41 I love when they go to the original dove Don Hall's grave and they try to possess him and bring him back to life like all the other heroes and stuff but they can't It says Don Hall at peace and then they go away he was the only hero they could not resurrect
Ethan Van Sciver came up with most of the other lantern corps with Geoff johns. Johns is not solely responsible, nor is he even majority contributor to creating the other corps.
I read blackest night while I was reading the GL omni’s and I honestly didn’t like it that much. I was in it for a green lantern story and I feel like blackest night bounced around between too many characters for me to really root for anyone in particular despite wanting to good guys to win. Granted I didn’t read the tie in’s but a take’s a take.
I wanna watch this video but I just bought the omnibus and I’m not spoiling this epic story for myself so I dropped a like and I’m sure it was a great video see u on the next one

Blackest Night was probably my favorite DC event. I actually liked Brightest Day, too. I forget if it was BN or BD but my favorite page is of Boston Brand coming back to life and then immediately being shot and killed again. 😂 A similar thing happened to him in one of the Justice League Dark comics. It’s so freaking hilarious.
I love blackest night such a great story and as a horror fan this was a great dc comics horror story set in the main stream dc universe that had actual consequences for the entire dc universe as a whole in my opinion.
Blackest Night is my personal favourite comic book event storylin as it truly blew my mind seeing the culmination of Johns Green Lantern saga and truly felt like a massive event that effected everyone in the DC Universe as you felt the weight of the rise Nekron and the Black Lanterns. I truly hope they someday DC adapts this storyline someday and does it true justice because it has so much potential to be built up naturally as the Endgame of Green Lantern stories, either as the ending of a Green Lantern reboot animated series, or the final installment of a Green Lantern film saga. i think the colorist Alex Sinclair deserves just as much if not more credit for the amazing art in this book than Ivan Reis. The way the colors of the lanterns and their constructs, or even the flash's suit, stand out amongst the black lantern army is unlike anything ive ever seen in a comic since
OH GOD I remember back in college that wait after the fake Batman corpse came back but all the dead and resurrected heroes (except Johns tow favorite silver age guys) got zombified and I did not know what was gonna happen after so many brutal killings and interactions throughout the tie ins i was reading. The firestorm one is the most brutal tho, he absorbs the guy then makes him watch him murder his gf and he can do nothing. The hawkman and hawkgirl one is a close second though, good god.
After the movie came out I looked into the character amd just happened to pick out Blackest Night on comixology. First comic i ever read and was hooked. Unfortunately i haven't read much since the Geoff Johns stopped writing comics in favor of the DCEU
i watched the green lantern movie and actully liked it enough to become a gl fan, i saw Green Lantern tas and saw Red Lanterns and thought that was the coolest thing ever, googled them and saw blackest night and that broke me into comics.

The Blackest Night and Brightest Day is my favorite event(s) in comic books.
I remember this being my first DC event and solidifying my love for Hal Jordan. This event was so fucking cool.
Blackest Night is my favourite DC comic event storyline as I adored the GL lore and mythos and how well they set up the Blackest Night and I truly hope DC someday adapts this storyline and I pray they do it justice because it has so much potential to be built up naturally as the Endgame of Green Lantern stories, either as the ending of a Green Lantern reboot animated series or the final installment of a Green Lantern film saga.
I also have other Lantern Corps ,like the Red Lanterns and Sinestro Corps, play a role by trying to hunt down William, as well as the Guardians of the Universe and Green Lantern Corps hunting down Kyle along with Soranik Natu (Sinestro's daughter and Kyles girlfriend) Hal, John Stewart and Kilowog all try to help Kyle as they attempt to protect William from armies of Lanterns hunting them across the universe in order to prevent the Blackest Night
Yes! My comment made the video! Thanks guys XD
Awesome video btw.
How has the Blackest Night not been adpated yet?
it was wild going thru this story in real time. This event is sooo underrated.
The lead up to this was so awesome. And the payoff was awesome. Top 5 comic event ever
It was great and the tie-ins are the best companion pieces to the event. No matter how many times I've read it, it was amazing and it got me good.
One of my favorite scenes is when Arisia comes upon her dead parents. Her confusion in emotions as seen from their dead eyes is so good.
you guys should talk more about comic events the way you spoke about this one made me WANT to read more GL
Ojala algún dia hagan una película animada de ese evento
Guys, I have to admit that I used to see the Dark Night event as just another big bad DC event, especially the story of the dead man coming back to life, but through your video I got to know more about the event and started to see the work from a new perspective and it is really good and I will read it, Allah willing, from the Green Liner series to the end and thank you for changing my perspective and for the amazing videos that are fun and inspire me to make my own comic story. Goodbye Thomas
I recall liking the Sinestro Corps War better but this event was also pretty freaking cool. I'm going to reread it next week.
Thank you guys glad it’s here hope you two have an amazing day
Blackest night was the fair big event I read and led me to be the DC fan I am today, it sucks no one talks about it anymore and how much they sidelined all the lanterns
Yall have the best chemistry
Dawg I love the fact that we’re the same age lmao legit feels like I’m relieving history
You guys convinced me to check out a comic run, good job.
With James Gunn now in charge of DCU and new fresh takes, how would you want James Gunn or even yourself to incorporate this into the New DCU? Would you want it as a movie?
Still hits hard when Mera as a Red Lantern is beating the shit out of Aquaman and says she never wanted to be a mother 😮💨 GETS ME EVERY TIME
Got me back into dc
I love this event so much I'm working on getting all the builds-up issues and the ties-ins!!!!
Another fantastic video lads 🤙
Star Sapphire Wonder Woman being first crush is crazy
Blackest Night is my favourite DC Event. I mean it has some absolutely incredible moments but also some very dark and sad moments too. Some characters you care about die and characters you care about come back in a twisted form and there they die again.
Yup! It’s one of my favorites of all time!
In reddest hair
In soulless eyes
No ginger will mercy abide
Let fire-haired be washed aside
Beware disdain- THAT KID AINT MINE!!!
J/k, we got love for red heads out here- just wanted to fw Merlin with an oath I can’t imagine a name for yet 😁
~_~
I will go on record saying this. Green lantern by Geoff johns, Ivan reis, and various. Is the greatest dc comics run of all time. Blackest night was nothing short of excellent. I’m going to read the other tie ins such as blackest night green lantern, green lantern corps, etc. I read the first volume of brightest day and it was very good. This whole saga is one of the many examples as to why. He’s the greatest dc comics writer of all time. Arguably the greatest comics writer ever. In my opinion
Blackest night was actually my first green lantern comic book, and even tho I was kinda confused on some of the lore and the storyline, I still enjoyed it so much that I bought 10 random green lantern comics the next day
You guys are awesome!!
great video! now i can move onto begging for a knightfall vid
I have a hard cover collecting the main issues and I have a few tie in issues. My favourite DC event!
8:41 I love when they go to the original dove Don Hall's grave and they try to possess him and bring him back to life like all the other heroes and stuff but they can't It says Don Hall at peace and then they go away he was the only hero they could not resurrect
I’ve gotta go check this out now. I never knew about this.
Ethan Van Sciver came up with most of the other lantern corps with Geoff johns. Johns is not solely responsible, nor is he even majority contributor to creating the other corps.
I was gonna say this..thank you! EVS rules
Hands-down, the greatest DC comic book event in all of comic book history ‼️‼️
Totally agree!!! Read it i think like 10x!! The only omnibus i own atm! Bar none the best!!!
I wanna watch this video but I just bought the omnibus and I’m not spoiling this epic story for myself so I dropped a like and I’m sure it was a great video see u on the next one
What's the reading order up to Blackest Night?
Green Lantern by Geoff Johns Omnibus volumes 1 and 2. Worth it.
As you saw from my comment that you showed at the beginning of the video it is such a good… no AMAZINGLY GREAT RUN!!!
So this is good because dark and bloody17:13?
This reminds me i still need to get all the omni's related to that whole run
Blackest nught was the dopest. It gave me a aense of pride when saying that GL was my favorite.
Haven’t read it but you guys convinced me
"through brightest day, through blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evils might, beware my power, Green Lanterns light,"
-The Green Lantern core
my favorite DC event
Blackest Night was probably my favorite DC event. I actually liked Brightest Day, too. I forget if it was BN or BD but my favorite page is of Boston Brand coming back to life and then immediately being shot and killed again. 😂
A similar thing happened to him in one of the Justice League Dark comics. It’s so freaking hilarious.
I LOVE this comic. The only comics I like better, Green Lantern or otherwise, are Sinestro Corp War and Sinestro's Law.
Subbed, more green lantern content please!
My favorite part is how essentially very few people actually won they found ways to to survive
I love blackest night such a great story and as a horror fan this was a great dc comics horror story set in the main stream dc universe that had actual consequences for the entire dc universe as a whole in my opinion.
"I'm bricked up." - Merlin
Blackest Night is my personal favourite comic book event storylin as it truly blew my mind seeing the culmination of Johns Green Lantern saga and truly felt like a massive event that effected everyone in the DC Universe as you felt the weight of the rise Nekron and the Black Lanterns.
I truly hope they someday DC adapts this storyline someday and does it true justice because it has so much potential to be built up naturally as the Endgame of Green Lantern stories, either as the ending of a Green Lantern reboot animated series, or the final installment of a Green Lantern film saga.
Ive even written my own draft for a Green Lantern film saga set in James Gunn's DCU (even though it seems like they're going in a different direction with GL, which is unfortunate) and I have a alot of ideas, sketch designs and written drafts for 6 films, and the final two movies adapting Blackest Night.
I even have an idea for making Black Hand into a tragic, sympathetic villain by making him the same age and best friend to Kyle Rayner who in my pitch are both in their early 20's growing up and in college but William would be stricken his whole life with mental problems and suicidal thoughts that are neglected by his family and only Kyle truly cares about William, but Nekron would pose as Williams intrusive thoughts in his head torturing his whole life to the moment Nekron plans to return and make William his avatar of the undead, his Black Hand.
i think the colorist Alex Sinclair deserves just as much if not more credit for the amazing art in this book than Ivan Reis. The way the colors of the lanterns and their constructs, or even the flash's suit, stand out amongst the black lantern army is unlike anything ive ever seen in a comic since
Yo that book was fire
OH GOD I remember back in college that wait after the fake Batman corpse came back but all the dead and resurrected heroes (except Johns tow favorite silver age guys) got zombified and I did not know what was gonna happen after so many brutal killings and interactions throughout the tie ins i was reading. The firestorm one is the most brutal tho, he absorbs the guy then makes him watch him murder his gf and he can do nothing. The hawkman and hawkgirl one is a close second though, good god.
My third favorite event after crisis and infinite crisis
the way you guys pronounce corp confused me when I was listening to this as a podcast 🤣🤣
After the movie came out I looked into the character amd just happened to pick out Blackest Night on comixology. First comic i ever read and was hooked. Unfortunately i haven't read much since the Geoff Johns stopped writing comics in favor of the DCEU
damn...i never read it but this sounds PEAK!!!!
if there was ever a blackest night film adaptation it genuinely would rival the infinity saga
I’m going to keep requesting a green lantern the animated series video, along with a gl ranking
My goats delivered.
Let's face it. The only one who cared enough about Hal was Geoff Johns.
The same could be said about Barry too
YOU GUYS NEED TO DO A PODCAST AND TELL US WHAT IT IS PLEASE!!!
You did it 😊
Blackest Night is one of the best, I have it in several tpbs on my room
and Hal, he is the best
YELLOW LANTER SCARECROW IS SO FUCKING FIRE 🔥
i watched the green lantern movie and actully liked it enough to become a gl fan, i saw Green Lantern tas and saw Red Lanterns and thought that was the coolest thing ever, googled them and saw blackest night and that broke me into comics.
Can we get a collab with M enterprises??
