I wholeheartedly agree with mama maples stance on drinks. Juice is derived from actual fruit and has nutritional values. while a drink contains artificial flavorings and usually contains next to zero nutritional value.
Pretty sure in Canada if there isn't any juice derived from fruit we have to call it drink here. And if there is fruit juice in it but it's below a certain percentage they can't call it juice either! Mama Maples was talking truth!
A lot of people don’t know that “water tok” was started by the bariatric community. After bariatric surgery you have to obtain a certain amount of fluids a day- preferably water however these added flavors still can count towards your daily intake. Regular water of course is necessary but the patients drink way more water than the average person so these keep things interesting. Bariatric patients are more at risk for getting dehydrated so the intake is important , i know it can seem like a silly fun trend but there’s more to it!
I have POTS, which is a condition where we need a LOT of salt and fluids to help alleviate symptoms. This kind of thing is popular with POTsies staying hydrated too. I myself don't go for anything this heavily flavored so much as just those little Mio water flavor drops, but it's the same thing in principle.
POTSie here as well! I mostly drink pure water, but I was addicted to flavoured ice tea for a while, haha Unfortunately I started feeling unwell because of it, moderation is a key 🙈
Thank you for sharing this. I didn't know. But it does seem odd if you don't know this. I was thinking they call it water because aside from the sugar it's the only common denominator
I read somewhere watertok started with post bariatric patients who wanted to stay on a low calorie diet but still feel like they were having fun sweet treats, the community grew and apparently they are very supportive of each other’s weight loss/maintenance journeys. I think it’s really cute and wholesome.
I was looking for this comment. People seem totally misguided and uneducated on this subject and it's kind of frustrating. If these drinks promoted an overall healthier lifestyle for these people, why are we harping at them about it? I mean, I can guarantee most who have a problem with it drink alcohol and that is literal poison that your body has to get rid by making you sick. I wish more people would think things through instead of running on autopilot. 😭
That’s 100% my reason! I have like 96+ oz a day of this type of fun water and it keeps me sipping whereas just plain water would be harder for me to get in daily. I had the gastric sleeve surgery.
@@amberjones9946 after my gastric sleeve operation, plain water hurt my stomach, but the flavored water doesn’t. I just use one packet to 32 oz of water instead of the recommended 10-12 oz.
I honestly didn't know that. Thanks for explaining! I guess it's like all those (according to people) "weird and useless gadgets" that are actually for people with disabilities. Sometimes people judge things way too quickly. Me included, since I didn't really understand this trend.
Mama is absolutely right, it IS a drink. In Australia we’d probably say this is more of a cordial drink. BUT I am heavily of the stance that if this gets people to drink ANY amount of water when they otherwise might not, then it’s a good thing.
Fellow Australian here to comment that these flavouring sachets sound like our Cottees cordial in powder form. Also I rely on diet fruit cup cordial to get the necessary hydration as a type 1 diabetic who has regurgitation issues with water, so agree with your second point as well.
Adding sweeteners to your water definitely isn't healthy. It's observed that consuming too much artificial sweeteners on the regular can alter your glucose processes. It's ok to have a sweet refreshment from time to time but the idea of using it for your regular daily drinking water which I think is the purpose of those tik toks is insane.
@@eykyraRight? I get it as a one time fun drink for a get together or something, but every day?? It would get real bad real quick. I'm probably biased though because water (without anything in it) is literally my favourite drink 💀

I absolutely love that you said you’re not one of those people that necessarily buys into the sugar free stuff! I’ve always felt that way as well but I feel like so many people are on the sugar free bandwagon not realizing a lot of those sugar alternatives are bad for you.
So if we used popsicles in our water as ice, after they melt then the water is now flavored is it still considered water?!?!?! LOL Like, how much flavoring changes it from 'water' to *other*drink?
@@Bluntifullyi agree cuz i use water flavoring the mio zero sugar and its not very sweet and for the most part a lot of the flavors are very mild so i still consider it water but idk😭🤷🏼
@@Bluntifullyit's not about the flavor but about that powder and syrup in the water. I don't know their composition but adding that to water changes it's composition and nutrious value. I guess if it's just colorant and water then it's water but if you add sugar and flavor it's not the same. In term of hydratation and liquid it's almost the same as drinking water (depending on the sugar level) and so I guess it's healthy in that way? Depending on where on you live and if you use tap or mineral water you also don't consume exactly the same thing and I think it would also have to be taken into account regarding the nutrious/mineral value. If we put the health part aside, I understand why people still call it water because there's not a word for it, it's not juice or soda but in my mind it's also not water.
As somebody from the Caribbean the drink vs juice concept is something we use everyday. Once sweetened flavouring is added to water, it's no longer water but becomes drink. A juice is a beverage made from actual fruit.
To add to this: flavoured water at home would look like an unsweetened flavour added to water or the portion or an extremely diluted version of a drink or juice.
Second this. Also to make water not just plane water. Just adding fruit to the water can change the taste eg lime/lemon. Also is diet soda considered water as it has no sugar in it?
I drowned as a kid (like CPR needed drowned) and have a hard time drinking plain water; if i’m basically so dehydrated my brain suppresses my stomach and gag reflex, I can drink plain water. but that’s like going outside in 90F and 60% humidity for like 3 hours dehydrated… not your required daily water intake. If I drink plain water daily, I’ll throw up or gag or be nauseous for hours; Adding a flavour packet to my water tricks my brain and stomach and helps me cut back on soda AND helps me stop being dehydrated. The overconsumption is definitely a problem to discuss but i’m glad there’s a lot of support in this comment section for those of us who have difficulties with plain water consumption.
not the same story as you but i’m chronically ill and have ADHD so i just really struggle to drink regular water for some reason. buying flavoured water has been a game changer for me
This is the thing that’s lost in the argument about whether it’s healthy or not. People have different needs and health goals. What’s good for me may not be good for you. My daughter has low blood pressure and her doctor wants her to have a salty snack every afternoon so she doesn’t pass out when she stands up. My dad has high blood pressure, and a salty snack every afternoon would be very bad for him. Human bodies are not mass produced units.
I always like some sort of iced tea like green tea for example. Especially if you water it down it is very tasty and good for you. Just a good sugar free option.
i agree with mama Maples, it's all drinks, not juice or water, especially if the first reaction to it is "WOW that's sweet!". if it helps someone consume more liquid throughout the day - great, wonderful, do that, but when you add a bunch of flavorings and syrups to a glass of water, it stops being water and becomes a drink

i literally use these packets when i want something with flavor instead of plain water with food...but tbf, i only use one packet and not 3-5 like watertok does lol.
This is the only way i can drink enough water. I still drink some plain, but i struggle to drink ENOUGH. And the sugar free flavors really work with my diabetes.
My thoughts exactly! As a self-proclaimed hydrohomie I couldn’t believe that people dare to call this water 😂 but as long as people stay hydrated at all it’s fine by me 😄
Yesss, this is the only way I can drink water! But I also don't go overboard like this. I used to solely drink dark sodas and now I'm onto flavoured water almost exclusively and I KNOW I've gotta be healthier! It's not perfect but it sure is an improvement!
I feel like this may be good for someone like me who lovessss a good sweet treat from places like the Dutch bros energy drinks, but doesn’t always need caffiene or all the sugar (or to spend $8)
The videos with your mom brings me so much joy. Your mom reminds me so much of mine (We get to see each other but it's about once a month or 2) and helps when I miss hanging out with her! I am always grateful to have a relationship like this with a parent.
I am a diabetic, and these work for me, as they don't spike my blood sugar. I have to drink a lot of water, and it just gets boring after a while. They work well in flavouring yogurts, as well. I have a huge supply of sugar free mixes as well. Love the video!
I've always thought of watertok as a way for people who don't like drinking plain water, to drink water - because at the end of the day, if the choice is between drinking a water you mixed different drink mix packets into, or some sort of soda or iced tea that has a bunch of sugar, then it's better for you, even if the artificial sweeteners in the "sugar free" drink mixes aren't exactly healthy.
This is hilarious timing! I’ve been scrolling watertok like crazy the past couple days! After having bariatric surgery 20 years ago, my mom can’t stomach plain water. She gets nauseous and throws it up so adding stuff to it always helps her! It’s pretty common with gastric bypass patients!
@@eden900573I don’t think a lot of people know about this. Most people think this is just a stupid TikTok trend lol which it kinda is but also there are people who actually have to flavor their water like that to stay hydrated
Yeah i remember hearing that it helped with gastric surgery and that most the creator's (not all) had had some kind of gastric surgery and couldn't drink plain water, but could with these flavours. For that,I think it's a great thing and a lovely little community for others to share drink ideas. But obviously, if you can consume water naturally, that's better but as long as they're staying hydrated and it helps, i wish them well. Just be careful of the sugar intake ❤
I agree with you, Mia!! It’s definitely not water or healthy, but still can be fun! Moderation is still important! Sugar free is as bad as sugar and our bodies learn to treat it as such. But it’s far from natural. As someone who has diabetic family members, it is nice they can occasionally have a sugar free drink, but it’s not healthy. Just like when we have actual sugar. Additionally, there are so many scientific based studies on what food coloring does to us. These aren’t naturally colored. And the flavoring is full of chemical toxins more times than not. Again, they can definitelyyyy be a fun drink, but they shouldn’t be treated as “health” drinks or replace water.😅
I have type 1 diabetes, ADHD, and a stomach condition. Drinking regular water is difficult for me and having a sugar free flavor option really helps. Drinking water is better than not. If it is not for you that's fine; don't take part in it. I'm glad it exist for the people it helps, and those who jus enjoy it. Everything does not need to be for everyone to be worthwhile.
Yes! In fact, isn't syrup flavoring in sparkling water an Italian soda? So that's literally what people are making with these, with other flavor packets added 😂
Mama Maples asking have you not ever heard of these things called “drinks” before? 😂 I love it when Mia and Mama Maples are sharing their laughter moments. You cannot help but join in.
As someone who avoids artificial sweeteners (bad migraine triggers) I enjoyed watching this as something that I´d never be able to do. I´m also all for doing what it takes to drink more water but I don´t think I´d ever think of these as healthy. Great video! Always fun to see you guys react to things together
I, too, lost my mom 7 years ago now and I love watching these two as well for the mom/daughter relationship. I miss that so much with my mom and it makes me happy to see these two together.
Hi I just recently went on a keto diet and learned a lot about sugar free things out there. Basically what's making it so sweet is alternate options such as stevia extract (a plant) or monk fruit extract. The reason these are considered "sugar free" is because rather than actual sugar/glucose going into your body, it's sugar alcohol. The chemical compound for sugar alcohol doesn't get absorbed into your body/bloodstream the way normal sugar does, so it doesn't have the same health affects as it. People who are diabetic or people who need low carbs for health reasons use sugar alcohol for their sweeteners for this reason. I hope that helps! I lost 12lb on keto and have been learning to switch to a low-carb diet for my PCOS diagnosis
as someone from the uk, all this just reminds me of is cordial. which is sweet drink we add a small amount of to water and it costs around £2😂 always love u and mama maples together 💕💕
We call it Raro because a common brand of flavouring is called Raro (short for Rarotonga, an island in the pacific). It’s popular with kids, but my parents banned it for me, too much sugar!
i already feel like i went into sugar overload just by watching the video lmao i'm so glad i'm not the one trying and we have mia and mama maples reviewing for us 😂
One of my biggest problems with “watertok” is just the single use packaging. They use multiple for a single “water” sometimes and then adding the people who use bottled water? I hate it..
Not to mention the harmful dyes and sweeteners used in most of these packets. The disgusting way they try to pass this off as "water" when real water is much more beneficial for your health. The fact that most of these people are often wealthy and privileged. It just adds up to create something worse.
@@anteerat I never said big companies are faultless? But this is a huge trend creating countless single use packets, bottles, boxes and other things. Those add up, especially over the who-knows-how-many-people doing this. Us normal people do make some difference, just because the big corps are doing more harm doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to do less…
As someone who does keto diet I love water tok as a treat since it’s on plan but still tastes super sweet!! Great alternative to juice and treats that aren’t on plan.
Been having a pretty rough year and today’s my birthday so I’ve been trying and failing to stay to upbeat and positive about the future. Your video really helped bring a bit of brightness to my grim day so I truly want to thank you for that.

Mama has a point with the ‘drink’ thing! In England we have cordial (or squash) which is basically a liquid version of these sachets & you mix a small amount with water. Generally a lot healthier & less sugary than the sachets & a great option for kids so they’re not drinking as much fruit juice or pop but also getting more flavour than water
I like fun because they pretend like it's healthy just because it doesn't have sugar ignoring the fake sugar and all the other chemicals and pretend like it's still just water lol
Mia, you and your mom seem to have such a positive and fun relationship. My mom and I never had that. Did you guys ever had years of disagreement or were you guys always this loving? It’s so nice to see and if I have daughters one day I pray I have this type of relationship with them
I am 100% with Mama Maples on the juice vs drink debate! I get so annoyed when someone tells me something is juice and its actually legally a drink, not a juice!
I totally know what Mama Maples meant when she was talking about “drink”. As a kid, we used to avoid the “drink” description on the bottles because some products would have Juice as part of the brand name even though it was “drink” and not actually juice. I got you, Mama Maples!
It seems similar to what we Dutchies call 'ranja' or 'limonade', which is syrup (so not powder) that you dilute with water to have a similar sort of drink!
I feel like that's basically what Ribena is nowadays. When I was a kid, it was more of a juice, but now it's so watered down, it tastes like flavoured water

I feel like this may be good for someone like me who lovessss a good sweet treat from places like the Dutch bros energy drinks, but doesn’t always need caffiene or all the sugar (or to spend $8)
I agree with Mama Maples about juice vs drink! My mom would rarely let me have a "drink" because of the sugar content, ie Kool-Aid.
the pause of suspense before mama maples says "i call this drink." KILLEDDDDD ME
Watching Mia and Mama Maples interact heals my inner child ❤❤
I envy your relationship with your mother, never take it for granted ❤
The videos with your mom brings me so much joy. Your mom reminds me so much of mine (We get to see each other but it's about once a month or 2) and helps when I miss hanging out with her! I am always grateful to have a relationship like this with a parent.
I love how you are twinning with your mums outfit.😂❤
I actually have momma maples exact shirt! I feel like kindred spirits! lol
I am a diabetic, and these work for me, as they don't spike my blood sugar. I have to drink a lot of water, and it just gets boring after a while. They work well in flavouring yogurts, as well. I have a huge supply of sugar free mixes as well. Love the video!
My two year old daughter, also named Mia, LOVES watching you and your mom together. She keeps repeating you all with so much excitement “WOAAHHH” 😂
I've always thought of watertok as a way for people who don't like drinking plain water, to drink water - because at the end of the day, if the choice is between drinking a water you mixed different drink mix packets into, or some sort of soda or iced tea that has a bunch of sugar, then it's better for you, even if the artificial sweeteners in the "sugar free" drink mixes aren't exactly healthy.
i’m all in with mama maples with the drink/juice thing!!
Mama Maples is effortlessly so funny 😭😭😭
This is hilarious timing! I’ve been scrolling watertok like crazy the past couple days! After having bariatric surgery 20 years ago, my mom can’t stomach plain water. She gets nauseous and throws it up so adding stuff to it always helps her! It’s pretty common with gastric bypass patients!
Yes I was surprised she didn’t talk about this at all.
@@eden900573she obviously didn't know, I'm highly certain Mia would have mentioned it had she known. She's a very sweet and considerate young woman ❤
I've always had that issue as well. I can't handle plain water, it really upsets my stomach.
Again, they can definitelyyyy be a fun drink, but they shouldn’t be treated as “health” drinks or replace water.😅
this is what I was thinking! these all must have so many dyes in them!
The irony of the Crush box getting crushed in the mail (6:56) 😆
Hahah I noticed this too! 😂
“That’s not their voice mom” 😂 I just love the videos with you two 💕
This is exactly what I needed today and I fully 100% agree with Mama Maples that these are "drinks" and NOT juices!!
I don’t think they’re saying water tok is bad…
@@brigit.the.seagoat Some people were, and some people are also just worried about some of the health problems. Mia didn't really discuss it much
The concept of artificially coloured and flavoured _water_ 👀 is so american core...
Mama, honey, sweetheart... that's a soft drink 😂
Yes! In fact, isn't syrup flavoring in sparkling water an Italian soda? So that's literally what people are making with these, with other flavor packets added 😂
I can almost hear you say water without sarcastic sassy tone
Mama Maples asking have you not ever heard of these things called “drinks” before? 😂 I love it when Mia and Mama Maples are sharing their laughter moments. You cannot help but join in.
As soon as I saw this video I clicked on it because Mia makes me so happy and is the highlight of my day
Enjoy!!
I'm sure you've heard this almost a billion times, but your edits are SO funny 🤣❤️
As someone who avoids artificial sweeteners (bad migraine triggers) I enjoyed watching this as something that I´d never be able to do. I´m also all for doing what it takes to drink more water but I don´t think I´d ever think of these as healthy. Great video! Always fun to see you guys react to things together
Artificial sweeteners give me my migraines as well. Also I don't want to put that crap in my body
not all flavor packets are sugar free and I’d say most of the time there is a real sugar option. go make yourself a fun drink lol
That green is perfect on Mama Maples
Warm bed, good food and Mia + mama maples. Perfect combi.
Yay, enjoy!!
As a german, the phenomenon of water tok and these uber sweet and sugary drinks seem so american to me, idk 😂
I lost my mum at 25 (32 now) and your videos with mumma maples truly make my heart so warm I feel so much mumma love between you two.
I, too, lost my mom 7 years ago now and I love watching these two as well for the mom/daughter relationship. I miss that so much with my mom and it makes me happy to see these two together.
American’s are obsessed with sugar! Btw when I see you both, you fill me with so much joy. Two pure hearted people. ❤❤
I love the loving fun bond you have with your Mom. I wish I had that with my Mom.
as someone from the uk, all this just reminds me of is cordial. which is sweet drink we add a small amount of to water and it costs around £2😂 always love u and mama maples together 💕💕
Yep, that’s what I thought of too 😅
I was just about to comment that I’m confused bc it’s just cordial/squash/juice but probably with so much more sugar
Yeah I thought it was like squash too😂👍🏼
In Australia we call this cordial as well. We don’t call anything squash just water, juice or cordial.
We call it Raro because a common brand of flavouring is called Raro (short for Rarotonga, an island in the pacific). It’s popular with kids, but my parents banned it for me, too much sugar!
I can watch mama maple drink, flavored water all day long. Her reactions are so freaking adorable.!
i already feel like i went into sugar overload just by watching the video lmao i'm so glad i'm not the one trying and we have mia and mama maples reviewing for us 😂
I absolutely love you two together. My mom and I also get like this giggly - “slap happy” is what we call it 🤣🩵🤣 you’re both such gems!!! 💎
One of my biggest problems with “watertok” is just the single use packaging. They use multiple for a single “water” sometimes and then adding the people who use bottled water? I hate it..
Seriously....this whole trend scares me
wait till u see how much waste corporations make
Not to mention the harmful dyes and sweeteners used in most of these packets.
👏👏👏👏
wait because Mama Maples' point about drink and juice makes perfect sense.
I agree with Mama Maples! This is a drink. It stops being water, the moment they add all that stuff in.
🍀
thank you for being here, please stay strong
Happy bday🎉❤
Happy birthday🎉🍰
Happy Birthday, Beautiful person! Hang in there😊
I love the way you mums reply to everything is just a laugh 😂😂❤️
I would love to see more watertok videos!!! 😂😂😂
I totally understand that drink juice water terminology. We use it the same way!!❤️😂
Im actually really happy you worked with helix.. I think its my favorite mattress so far, ive had it for two years and ive fully turned my family onto them.. a sponsorship I can get behind
You and Mama Maples together are the ultimate mom and daughter duo!! Love from NC!
I love it when mamma maples comes on the channel shes so adorable 🤗
I think these can be really good party mocktails
Your mom’s hair looks beautiful! Rocking the gray hair!
MIA!! I needed to see this end with you giving Mama Maples a CADDY!!!! 😂🥰
I can watch Mia and Mama Maples any time of the day! 💕
There is something so healing about Mama maples. 💕
YAY MIA POSTED WITH MAMA MAPLES YOU GUYS BRIGHTEN MY DAY SO MUCH!!! 🩷🫶🏼
I needed wholesome Mia so bad, thank you for being you (and Mama Maples!)
We love momma maples!!
SAME!
Mama has a point with the ‘drink’ thing! In England we have cordial (or squash) which is basically a liquid version of these sachets & you mix a small amount with water. Generally a lot healthier & less sugary than the sachets & a great option for kids so they’re not drinking as much fruit juice or pop but also getting more flavour than water
love love love mama maples!!! she has the best energy ever💕
I can watch y'all trying these flavors all day 😂🫶🏻
I poke fun at Watertok but actually I feel I would like them a lot 😭
I like fun because they pretend like it's healthy just because it doesn't have sugar ignoring the fake sugar and all the other chemicals and pretend like it's still just water lol
at 9:50 "I call this drink" is giving "I have purse" energy 😂
I literally just said to my son ‘if everyone had a mom like mama maples, there would be no bad people in the world!’ ❤
Mia, you and your mom seem to have such a positive and fun relationship. My mom and I never had that. Did you guys ever had years of disagreement or were you guys always this loving? It’s so nice to see and if I have daughters one day I pray I have this type of relationship with them
Hi Mia and Momma Maples. I never clicked on a video so fast before. Just started watching. Thank you Mia for sharing
Enjoy
Let’s see a mia and mama maples make cocktails ! ✨
Not Mia making an expired ad 😂💀❤️
not expired! i clicked on the link and the sale is still going! seems it was extended :D
Came here to say this 😢
Watching this video on a two hours ride.. now I'm thirsty
N.B i need a mama maple channel
Just what I needed on a Sunday 😭💗
enjoyyyyyyy!
Definitely not a coincidence that you feel so amazing after drinking that chemical concoction. It's designed to be ultra satisfying!!😅😂
We love you Mia and Mama Maples!!! 💗💗
I love your videos with your mom because I miss my mom soooo much and make me so happy seeing you and remember good times laughing with her❤
“I call this drink” HAHAHAHA I DIED
I am 100% with Mama Maples on the juice vs drink debate! I get so annoyed when someone tells me something is juice and its actually legally a drink, not a juice!
Mia and her mom are the best duet 👯 I bet your mom and you had lot’s of fun filming this! Please tell her hi from me!!🥹🩵
I totally know what Mama Maples meant when she was talking about “drink”. As a kid, we used to avoid the “drink” description on the bottles because some products would have Juice as part of the brand name even though it was “drink” and not actually juice. I got you, Mama Maples!
Didn’t even read the title, just clicked as soon as I saw you posted
My favorite videos of yours are the ones with mama maples, your dynamic is identical to me and my mom. We watch your videos together ♡
It seems similar to what we Dutchies call 'ranja' or 'limonade', which is syrup (so not powder) that you dilute with water to have a similar sort of drink!
Likewise in the UK with cordial/squash! ☺️
Yes it reminds me of “grenadine” as we call it in Belgium
I feel like that's basically what Ribena is nowadays. When I was a kid, it was more of a juice, but now it's so watered down, it tastes like flavoured water
THIS vid was so fun omg 😂
Mia you should try the cup where you are drinking water but there is a scent thing on the top to make your mind think your drinking flavored drink. :)
