As an ex-mariner based in the UK, once we reached the English Channel after months away and knowing we would be home soon, that excited feeling was called "The Channels". I guess Joe, you would be experiencing "The Channels" but in Norwegian waters!
You're providing an invaluable service by letting the average person understand what it truly means to have global commerce (hint: it nearly all goes by ship at one point in time). People like you and the time spent away from home and family allow people like us to enjoy a high standard of living at low cost. Thank you for your work!
For real. These videos are amazing. I've watched a few every day since I found the channel. Legit, no BS content that isnt overhyped. This channel is a breath of fresh air. Inspiring.
Have said it before Joe, you are doing a great job of conveying life on merchant ships to the average person on the street. Starting as an O/S, up through the Hawespipe to Master, AGT, Oceans took 16 years. It can be done! Considering that 99.99% of the folks have almost zero idea of how 98% of everything around them (including what they are wearing and eating) gets to them, your vlogs are raising awareness.
I know how everything gets to me. That's because I had a great education from some great teachers. I'm 72 and they used to teach problem solving and geography in California public schools in the '50's and '60's. My father also told me to read a newspaper every day. He told me that the best way to know what's happening in the world was not in the sports section of the paper. He told me to read the finance section first. His advice was correct, too. Money does not bring happiness but it sure can smooth out a lot of the negative aspects of life. His favorite saying was, 'Life is like a shit sandwich. The more bread you've got the less shit you have to eat'. A bit crude, but true, nonetheless.
Looking forward to the Pilot 12 hr passage. Another great video. I enjoy the fact you enjoy your work and don't complain the entire time. Every job is a pain sometimes, but you pass over that part. Thanks Joe
Joe I have just stumbled on to your channel. New Subscriber. I am binge watching you. Your stuff is way better than anything on the Discovery channel. Keep them coming.
I worked in a remote camp in Alaska for years and I rotated back to home in the lower 48 every 5 weeks - I recognize your "fixing to home" smile. It's a sweet feeling. Safe travels.
I would like a little more, I understand this is like a hobby, but more coverage of the sea, people on board, but then again, a great showman said "always leave them wanting more" either way. I like the channel, cheers
Nice video, thank you. Could you possibly show the 3 meals daily you are given daily. Just interested how well they feed you while underway. Thank you again.
Looked like a nice peaceful passage the channel can be quite hectic sometimes especially if you get a rogue ship not doing what it is supposed to do good vlog
You've a lovely way about you Joe, you take pride in what you do and how you present to the world. You're a credit to your calling and I enjoy your videos. Good luck to you.
I spent most of my working life running a fishing boat in the English Channel mostly around the separation zone south of the Isle of Wight, it was interesting to watch the constant stream of vessels of all types passing, sometimes up to 3 abreast. All good fun until the fog rolled in!
Joe, great job on the videos! You have the "eye" for making an interesting video. Can't wait until the next one. Enjoy shore leave and Happy New Year to you.
Can’t make you out Joe. You rightfully look forward to getting home but when you get there I bet it won’t be long before you’re off in your r/v or signing on for some more “maintenance “. Capt JB
Awww you went straight past me going thru the English channel. My house over looks lyme Bay in England. If id ofj known I'd of got on after boat and popped over on ur ship for a night lol
Another fantastic video with great music and storyline but I just hate it when it comes to the end!! Oh well, I must learn to be patient. Looking forward to heading up the fjord. 👏⚓️😎🦘
Punching through some big seas where some crew members were doing a washdown near the bow. Bow spray coming well above the ship. Good thing it wasn't too cold or you could have major ice buildup.
I really like your videos. I have always admired the people who make their living on the sea. Unfortunately for me I went on a deep sea fishing trip w friends when I was 15. I spent the whole day extremely sick!! From that day forward I knew it was an impossibility for me. It all looks so exciting!!!!! Enjoy!
This is a great series you've put together. Entertaining and lots of info for interested people who can't do this job but are still interested in it. Thanks for doing this Joe.
Joe. Love you’re videos and your buddy is a great singer. I’ve unloaded boats of gravel with a excavator on-board in Windsor ont at the east dock. It would take me about 18 to 20 hrs and I must say the Guys where the best. And fed me well
Bro! I love you. Thank you for this series, I legitimately thought you got crushed by the launch about a month ago but it was some other lad from jersey. Noticed that screwtube turned off notification and I immediately caught myself up. Godspeed!
I live in the uk and have crossed the English Channel dozens of times on yachts and motor cruisers. It’s always crazy to think remember that it’s the busiest shipping channel in the world.
I sure enjoy your videos Joe. I'm a retired Canadian Navy chap with many years at sea so its a lot of fun to see your merchant navy side of things. Great job. Hope you keep them coming. Enjoy your time back home!
Hey bud. If you ever get tired of 4 to 6 months on the sea, sounds you'll be perfect for solo truck driver USA /Canada/European Union. You could do 1 week out to 6 months out on North America.
Was lucky enough to see Orca during Xmas in my local harbour (Lyttleton) NZ an extremely rare sight , thanks Joe for uploading your vids like seeing the process's and different locations cheers mate :)
I live in the limp natural country down below Norway. You are getting an opportunity of a life time. If you have a day of driving in Norway, do so. Vistas are everywhere. I know I am after the fact, but I hope you have videos of that beauty. a five-year period for a m
Welcome to Norway my home country. Hope you are all ready back home. I have been on board a bulker ship like yours. Stayed on board for 29 months. We were in Port Hawksbury in Nova Scotia loading plaster. Been on several cruise ships and O/O ships. Signed off in 1980 and started in hotel business. Looking forward to seeing you sailing in the fjord to Sauda. I know the feeling when you are leaving the ship.
Love the slow pace of your videos. So many influencers and RUclips starts have high action, fast paced cuts. This feels relaxing to watch.
Ya i watch these at night before bed. Its wonderful.
As an ex-mariner based in the UK, once we reached the English Channel after months away and knowing we would be home soon, that excited feeling was called "The Channels". I guess Joe, you would be experiencing "The Channels" but in Norwegian waters!
We called it Channel Fever here in the US.
@@rickpratt8789 For us it is 'Kanaalkoorts' which is a literal Dutch translation for the Channel Fever
Whatever name gets hung upon it, the fever is palpable and infects everyone onboard!
It’s so wonderful to hear the UK VTS and know that Blighty is just over the horizon.
"...Now Your Safe Ashore Jaaaaacccckkk!!"
Some cliffhanger that was,bro!!!

ORCAS FOR THE CLOSE! Epic! 12-hr pilotage down a fjord too, damn. Until next time Bambi
For real. These videos are amazing. I've watched a few every day since I found the channel. Legit, no BS content that isnt overhyped. This channel is a breath of fresh air. Inspiring.
Totally agree!! No hype, Joe tells it as it is. Great RUclips channel!
Besides great videos, I enjoy your background music selections on every one.

Cool about the orcas and also about the fish off the coast of Ascension Island
My opinion Joe, you have a great life. I was aboard a Navy destroyer for four years, I loved the sea.
Your guitarist is Channelling Stan Rogers!

Looking forward to the Pilot 12 hr passage. Another great video. I enjoy the fact you enjoy your work and don't complain the entire time. Every job is a pain sometimes, but you pass over that part. Thanks Joe
Cleaning wheat flour off the decks was pretty tough, too, after it got wet. We had to break out the chipping hammers and needle guns!
Love your videos. Longer ones when you can, please. Pleasant voice, easy music, interesting work. Thank you!
Dear Joe, iam so jealous for this journey..... never mind!
Thanks Joe - that sand looks like trying to deal with coffee grounds - only more of it ha ha
Joe I have just stumbled on to your channel. New Subscriber. I am binge watching you. Your stuff is way better than anything on the Discovery channel. Keep them coming.

Bonito viaje a Norge .
I remember the feeling of great joy when my relief showed up when I was sailing.
I worked in a remote camp in Alaska for years and I rotated back to home in the lower 48 every 5 weeks - I recognize your "fixing to home" smile. It's a sweet feeling. Safe travels.
What did you do?
The fact that y'all dump residual Titanium Oxide ore that didn't make it into the holds, when it's still a decent amount baffles me a bit.

How did that work out pre gps and ais, sounds like it would be a task to find fish and keep safe?
Joe, great job on the videos! You have the "eye" for making an interesting video. Can't wait until the next one. Enjoy shore leave and Happy New Year to you.
Orcas made the trip!

Can’t make you out Joe. You rightfully look forward to getting home but when you get there I bet it won’t be long before you’re off in your r/v or signing on for some more “maintenance “. Capt JB
Felt like you left us on a bit of a cliffhanger with Bambi, there... the last time you ever saw her??? Little did you know?!
Joe, have you got to see the northern lights in your travels yet? St Elmo's fire? was hoping to hear Beatles in the background Norweigan wood.
I have seen the northern lights when working on a tanker in Alaska. Check out my video about it- ruclips.net/video/HBXXm3_-jzc/видео.html
Love your videos, a great geography lesson.

It can feel good to just go back to being a sailor, you know?

Hey Joe,
Your heading to my homeland, have a good time there and have an Aquavit or two for me.
This is a great series you've put together. Entertaining and lots of info for interested people who can't do this job but are still interested in it. Thanks for doing this Joe.
That 12 Hour Pilotage would be more if it starts to Fog, i was there back in 2017 and we would drop anchor every 2 hours because of the fog
Joe. Love you’re videos and your buddy is a great singer. I’ve unloaded boats of gravel with a excavator on-board in Windsor ont at the east dock. It would take me about 18 to 20 hrs and I must say the Guys where the best. And fed me well
