Paul Simon is a monumental Giant of songwriting, , His subject matter can be direct as in the narrative of “The Boxer “ and “America” but as he describes, the “Subconscious” adds Dreamy imagery to illustrate the story of many of his songs, as in “American Tune” ~ “I Dreamed That My Soul Rose Unexpectanly, Looking Back Down at Me, Smiled Re-Assurantly” and there goes the “Statue of Liberty, Sailing Away To Sea”, , In my mind He, , along with Bob Dylan, were amount the Earliest to Write at such a Deep Level. Therefore I am sure he inspired many greats after him, , Neil Young, , who also wonderfully draws on dream like scenes unexpectantly (as in “Cortez The Killer”), , other greats for me are Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, Townes Van Zant, early Springsteen and Rickie Lee Jones.

Many songwriters and including myself feel the same way. The cool part is you get be the arranger though. You get to assemble the song in a way you like and hope others like. Only those who grew up during the singer-songwriter renaissance of the 60s and 70s can fully appreciate this man's enormous gifts ... Perhaps every generation feels the same way about its music, but what in the present or future can compete with James Taylor, Cat Stevens, Joni Mitchell, Dylan, Neil Young ...and one generation possessed them all

What's interesting here is that "Bridge Over Troubled Water" is certainly a masterpiece but not even mentioned. It's certainly one of his most iconic creations. And saying great songs like his already "exist" but just have to be revealed? While that's a poetic statement, the fact remains that they still have to be created and that is often damned hard work.

Ridiculous editing! You’ve got one of the greatest songwriters in history willing to talk to you and, in a 6-minute video, you set aside a combined 1 - 2 minutes to hear what he has to say??!!….the rest just concert and narration filler. Film editor, stop doing what you do because you do it terribly.
