i'm gonna get stabbed in a street alley for this but i think his films, except the animated ones, are kinda ugly. Everything being so symetrical, clean and perfect makes me insane.
It's a shame that "This guy was the worst host ever," is more upvoted than comments like yours. The fact that the commentor said "this guy" goes to show he knows nothing about David Carr or the art of interviewing.
What a joy. David Carr was the best and this last interview doesn't disappoint. Wes Anderson is an absolute creative genius that surrounds himself with amazing talent. I got a real feeling for the collaboration between Wes and Ralph and learned so much about the director through Ralph's eyes. I wish there were more directors like Wes who apparently is so thorough with story boards, research, designs, costumes and lots of takes that make this film a comfortable and joyous experience not just for the cast and film crew, but it translates to the audience too. The interview brings out Wes' kindness, intellect, and humor as he and Ralph share the wonderful experience of working on this film. This was the first time they had worked together and you got the feeling that it won't be the last. The film is a visual appetite on so many levels as well as a fantastic ensemble piece. There wasn't a weak link in the performances. The collaboration between director, actors and others must have been a luxury but this is why, I suppose, Wes has a company of actors he regularly works with. There are no small parts when it comes to a Wes Anderson film. .
Yeah, I agree, David Carr was a fantastic interviewer here. He knew their work, their accolades and understood the movie and their personalities. He humbly listened and let them talk rather than waiting for a chance to jump in with a dumb uneducated question like so many interviewers do.
@@Erilis000 I started watching this, but am not sure I've got the patience to get to where Carr becomes "fantastic." So far, I think he's quite dreadful!
Absolutely a joy, but I have to disagree re: Carr in this particular interview. The guys on The Rewatchables know way more about Wes Anderson. And to not know what an aspect ratio is strikes me as odd for a media critic, particularly of his generation.
Watched the movie more than 100 times before finding this interview...it has a unique calming effect... I would say Interview is very satisfying and paves a way to go deeper in the literary side of the movie... Dream would be to watch a bond style movie by Wes..
I thank you very much for having uploaded this interview about a film I would have liked to have been awarded the Oscar for best film of the year. On the other hand, truly very interesting to watch and listen to these brilliant film-makers speaking-process, very contrasting in the case of Mr. Anderson and ravishing in beauty just to listen to an educated actor/director's very fine voice as Mr. Fiennes has, enthralling indeed. Mr. Carr must have been very ill by the moment of the interview so his ill throat reveals. Requiescat In Pace. Beautiful post that adds so much to our understanding of films we do revere º namaste
Watching this, I couldn't help but thinking the following: What if this were an interview with Terry Gilliam. . . What if this were an interview with Quentin Tarantino. . . What if this were an interview with Kubrik, or with Hitchcock. . . . Man, what a joy it must really be to work with Anderson.
This is a fascinating interview and as it requires close listening the stammering of Wes and the interviewer has made me clench my teeth and given me a brutal headache.
Lol.....That bit in *Grand Budapest Hotel* where M Gustave (Fiennes) is on the train with 'Zero' and the fascist death-squad boards, enters their compartment and Fiennes looks to them and says "Well, hello chaps" Pure comedy gold 🤣
I used to be terrified of Ralph. After seeing his interviews I´m not anymore. One of the nicest people in industry (After watching Joe Pesci´s interviews though, I´m still terrified of him).
Even when we suffer from something but we can make our dramas from it and it`s too difficult to understand other`s feelings and jealousies make our relationships worse but Clever people can change it humor😍😓😭😳😭😍👏
I see comments below saying either that Carr did a poor job or that Wes and Ralph interviewed each other and I, at first and sporadically for a while thereafter, felt similarly. But then again, after watching a handful of "wes + actor(s) interviews" I think that the period 30-37 minutes here (very imprecise btw, just ball park) is extraordinarily real and unexpected and you would never have that sort reckoning between wes and Ralph about "cuts" if it weren't for David Carr.
got to page 35 in the screenplay this am. like the bit about the clergy, working, and eating. the most random things make me laugh out loud! funnier than the film.
i watched some of Wes's younger interviews, and there he stutters much less. Is it the audience size? also 50:00 hugh mungus joke, illuminati confirmed
Jerously from old people are kind of sad, aren't they?People can never understand the sorrows when they`re in the situation ,but someone can understand the sorrow .Please don't just hold on😓😭😢😉😍
David Carr is giving very long questions with many pauses and unfinished sentences in a veeeery slow pace, I wonder how Wes succeeded in understanding his questions, I slept in the middle of them. Sometimes it feels like Carr is there to to talk about himself. I learned more about Carr than about Wes anderson.
For a New York Times writer... doesn't know Stephan Zweig? Doesn't know how to pronounce Stephan Zweig? Asks if he's from the turn of the century even though there's a clear 30's theme in Grand Budapest? (also, says "prolly"?) seems like a nice guy but... oh well, still a good interview.
+IanTheEgg That's how I've always felt about Wes and his stuttering. He is so full of ideas and enthusiasm that the words need to find themselves through a forest of wonder of sorts.
+licenseless rider I have heard him in his commentary for several of his films and he is not that bad at all. I think it's the crowd. I noticed in several interviews he does it worse.
Dash Crow I think it's more of a stammer. He's tripping over his words. Also if you watch any behind the scenes stuff where he is directing, not a one, very strong forceful speech.
That man was battling lung cancer (which is why he looks so sickly and is probably having trouble speaking). He died a few days before this interview was uploaded to RUclips.
can someone explain it to me why did Anderson call the fictional country Zobrowka? I'm Polish and quite confused. Guys, it's the cheap vodka, ŻUBRÓWKA. so so so confused.
+Ewa Jackowska Note that Zubrowka is named after a grass for "zubr", so it has animal theme, perhaps in oruellian sense. Also note that during socialism epoch in the movie the hotel had "GB" emblem (with the crown!) which may be deciphered as Great Britain or K-GB ...
“No matter how enduring to exhaustion my attempts, nor how ever intrigued I may very well be, nothing shall ever viciously erode my patience to the quick more faster than that of the triple verbal mutter of an individual or of the individual for whom I try to dedicate my intensely valuable and irreplaceable time embroidered attention.”
Paula kreinberg The interview on his end was exhausting to listen to. I wondered, really if he had a speech impediment, but from watching a few other interviews he's done, all I can gather was he must have been all nerves speaking in front of a live audience because in his one on one interviews he is very coherent and doesn't mince words, stutter, or use repetitive filler words.

Wes looks like the embodiment of his own films
😆. Well put I guess. 🧐💫
i like it because it is mostly wes and ralph interviewing each other
Gregor Samsa their dialog gave me an impression that they have mutual respect and admiration for each other.
Wes always has the best suits
1954telecaster Tailored just slightly small & trousers shortened.
I especially like his tie here.
Only Wes Anderson could wear a shirt, tie, and suit with all different stripes, zigs, zags, etc. and be able to pull that off.
Great style ! 🤎
Really like his style and taste of fashion.
I can't think of Grand Budapest hotel without Ralph Fiennes. It's just impossible. That's how great he was in his character ❤️❤️❤️
I really really hope Ralph Fiennes becomes Bill Murry level of involvement with future wes anderson films
naryrokobs 1 Would love ❤️ that. He was great in Hail Caesar! too.
Yeah, he's just fan-tas-tic as M Gustave, supremely funny character
i'm gonna get stabbed in a street alley for this but i think his films, except the animated ones, are kinda ugly. Everything being so symetrical, clean and perfect makes me insane.
I agree, billy is a blowhard.
Unfortunately I think they'll go down the Scorsese Liotta route. A once in a lifetime collaboration.
Ralph is precious and we must continue to protect him at all costs.
He needs to have insurance on him
Loved the interview. Thank you for sharing. R.I.P. David Carr :(

+Dana DeMartino I agree completely. And David seemed absolutely perfect as a person to interview these two in a really strange way

You kidding. From this he seems rubbish and stilted. Was he ill doing this? If he was then I apologise. This is a poor interview.
Absolutely a joy, but I have to disagree re: Carr in this particular interview. The guys on The Rewatchables know way more about Wes Anderson. And to not know what an aspect ratio is strikes me as odd for a media critic, particularly of his generation.
These guys are geeked out of their minds.
Ralph's eyes
MESMERIZING!
Absolutely gorgeous eyes
In my 9th year as a prisoner of war it is a treat to see Mr Anderson. As I get older my taste gets younger.
DAMMIT MAN, YOU INTERRUPTED RALPH JUST AS HE WAS ABOUT TO ANNOUNCE THE NAME OF THE COLOGNE
RIGHT!
We know the point of sale in Italy. I will call my man in the field - Brisbee - pronto for a spec.
And he interrupted Wes many times ! HORRIBLE ! 🤮
Eau de Panache
In the movie it was Eau de Panache 🤓
Ralph Fiennes, I love you 😭❤️
a very enjoyable conversation. Thank you!
A Grand 'film' indeed.... best of the year - imo.
Wes is as weird and colourful as his movies - I love a character!
David Carr the interviewer was on deaths door here with Lung cancer and Heart disease. He died a few days before this interview was uploaded.

thank you!
i dont have time to watch the entire session but the movie is quite simply a masterpiece
Great moderating and of course the genius Wes Anderson is very funny and informative. Ralph Fienes is great as welll. What a nice hour
"we got a ski chase" BIG FLEX
lol

These comments are outstanding, each a perfect gem in it's own self-holistic way...

Fantastic interview
wes anserson is and will forever be a 14yer old genius
PLEASE MAKE MISSION DEFERRED
i for one will be watching wes' bond film!!!
I'd love to see Wes' Bond movie!
Fantastic Interview
Great interview!
All of them were stoned. I love it.
OMG he's right! I love Santa Maria Novella's Cologne, it's the best one in the world!!!
now I want to try one. Any suggestions? I wanted to hear which one ralph fiennes used but he wasn't able to say.
Wes is a genius, we love you from Russia
Why did you invade Ukraine?
This is a fascinating interview and as it requires close listening the stammering of Wes and the interviewer has made me clench my teeth and given me a brutal headache.

The day this video was uploaded was the day David Carr passed away
David carr died on the day this video was released
He read the comments section of this video.
lol they released it because of his death you nut
I really, really hope Wes makes that Bond film.
I used to be terrified of Ralph. After seeing his interviews I´m not anymore. One of the nicest people in industry (After watching Joe Pesci´s interviews though, I´m still terrified of him).
great supper. finished the 15 steps. full of questions. good finale.

It’s fabulous when the interviewer shuts his mouth
wish this interviewer was only interviewer artist could be interviewed by
(I made mistakes) People can understand the sorrows in the same situations Please just hold on the man who can trust😍
R.I.P. David
I`m glad to hear about Japanese culuture😍
I would looove to see Wes take on a different genres like horror or sci-fi or even a thriller…!!

At some point around 28 mins the guy doing the interview has to be reminded that Ralph is there.
Who's that guy who doesn't know Stefan Zweig ? Boy !!
At 21 mins Wes tells the guy interviewing he is the world famous director and he is a no-one.
A marvellous movie…….
Circle communication is always cloudy.
5:22 Kind of sounds like he's saying "Rashomon" here haha
i watched some of Wes's younger interviews, and there he stutters much less. Is it the audience size?
also 50:00 hugh mungus joke, illuminati confirmed
i literally came in comments to see if it was just me. why do artist try to seem more artistic by stuttering ...
explain
I think he was struggling to respond to Carr's awful questioning!
lmao @ Mission Deferred.
Jerously from old people are kind of sad, aren't they?People can never understand the sorrows when they`re in the situation ,but someone can understand the sorrow .Please don't just hold on😓😭😢😉😍
cant believe even times cant export a video from editing program...

5:04 . Time to talk
58:06 WHERE IS THE PETITION TO MAKE WES ANDERSON’S BOND FILM HAPPEN!!!!!!😃
(Also, Ralph HAS to be Wes’ Bond.)
.. renee noto, ed mccabe, ira kleinman, tom arenz, joe dowling, rocco marotta, jen l'herbetter...

Titinesque is the mot required
It looks like. You're The Greatest. box vague What's your opinion about that, guys
Did not realize how much of a stutter-er Wes is.
Dasher Crow what are you talking about? He doesnt studder, he's conscious not to blur out words, he wants to be precise. Not exactly a handicap

he’s more financially rich so trying to sound more artistic 🤦
😍😍👏
Sorry but the interviewer should prepare better. I can’t believe he works for the NY Times
That man was battling lung cancer (which is why he looks so sickly and is probably having trouble speaking). He died a few days before this interview was uploaded to RUclips.
😍
This guy was the worst host ever.
Dreadful, dreadful, ugh. I know what questions I would have asked having seen the film several times.
He was a brilliant writer, though. Rest in peace.
the hell are you on about he was fantastic
both wes and ralph clearly enjoyed his weird charisma and sincerity
I thought he did a good job and he was charming and asked good questions but you have to take into account nerves etc.
The old man was right - Rushmore is really an amazing movie. But this hotel movie was a let-down.. generic piece of crap...
It’s hard to believe Anderson is American
I disagree entirely.
He seems VERY American to me.
No surprise he has got norwegian ancestors. His appearance is very nordic indeed.
David Carr is missed.
David Carr is such a terrible interviewer. His questions are are mostly boring and he has clearly no idea about filmmaking.
can someone explain it to me why did Anderson call the fictional country Zobrowka? I'm Polish and quite confused. Guys, it's the cheap vodka, ŻUBRÓWKA. so so so confused.
Funny word easy to associate with provincial easter-european country.

Ewa Jackowska wes likes the good stuff That can be exótic in Texas, but cheap
😍😍😊
oh please
You guys notice even this interview is colored a la Wes Anderson? 💀
Heya, Marvelous! smoke taste What's happening..
Ahm. Ahm...eh...eh.,,, had the interviewer ah headstroke or what?
Wes is so girlish (in a good way)
i have a tongue wrapped around my brain. la votre, cheri?
ok. i finished. i seriously cannot handle it. laughing and laughing and laughing. now to the 15 steps. pure hell.
we have a hedge fund, private equity, and psychiatric audience here...
wes could try to get a sentence out.
Wes’ sartorial flair here is top shelf. 🤌
That woman is terribly boring...
+Reggie J Wes you mean? Yes, he is very pansy.
+misterdinkly no, I mean the old redhead lady at the beginning... her voice is so boring I had to start wanking to get excited.
Lol the main thing is you got there eventually.

do i name names here according to the rules in England and Hollywood? or do I wait for the courts?
Ha Ha ha ~~
jesus stutter lord..
Omg what a pompous interviewer (sorry) :-)
I loved David Carr ... here, though, he comes off as a pretty checked-out, terrible interviewer ....
Wes Anderson is the Elon Musk of film-making.
Way to diss Wes
