I’m so happy to discover a channel about Hoyas!
I put the mosquito bits right in the soil mix. The corn cob is what attracts the larvae and tempts them to eat it. I have never had a problem. They seem to decompose fairly quickly and may provide some nutrition to the plant while doing so.
Thanks for sharing, Bonnie! :)
Thanks for explaining scale!
You're so welcome! Thanks for watching :)
I've had thrips and mealybugs, only a few of each though, I always treat with neem oil diluted in water and very mild soap. I usually treat all new plants with with this spray and I really soak the plant and also spray the substrate, and I brush the hole plant with a makeup brush. The mealybugs have never come back. I use pumice as a substrate with 10-20% of 100% bentonite clay (cat litter) so no fungus gnats! :)
I would take clean propagations of any mealy bug plants and toss the plants. Starting over is the only way I've ensured mealy bugs are gone
Glad that has worked for you! So far I haven’t had any infestations bad enough to justify starting over, but it definitely makes sense in some situations. Thanks for watching!
Mix up a garlic spray mixture and spray your plants with that. It's organic and will take care of all sorts of pests.
I appreciate the tip, but I’m gonna skip this one for my nose’s well-being 🤣 Thanks for watching! 💚
You have really beautiful skin
For mealys I just spray the whole plant with straight alcohol
New subscriber here:) this video is in perfect timing for myself as I have been lucky thus far, but its only a matter of time! My Compacta is giving me its first bloom and I want nothing to happen to her. Thanks for the info 👍
Glad to have you! 💚 Congrats on your Compacta bloom!! I’m a little paranoid over my Compacta with regard to pests 😆 so I shower it whenever it needs watering to prevent pests camping out. 🧐 So far, so good!! 🤞🤞
I haven’t tried mosquito bits yet, just the yellow sticky traps. I’ve use alcohol on a makeup pad and wiped leaves off to get rid of mealy bugs and on my Hoya Compacta, I’ve just sprayed the heck out of the whole plant, with alcohol, to get any mealy bugs that I couldn’t see or couldn’t reach just to be safe. I think I had scale on one of my cacti, but now I’m not sure if it was scale because every picture I see of it looks different, so I’m a bit confused about that one…
Thank you for sharing! 💜💚🪴
Sorry for the delay, Sharon! Weirdness with notifications. There are different colors of scale! I've had brown, grey and white varieties so far! But unsure of how many there may be.. Lol
@@dreamsofhoya No worries… that’s interesting about the different colors of scale! I’ll have to look it up and try to find out more about it.
Thank you for your videos! I recently received a hoya shipped via the mail and she had quite a few light brown leaves along with nice green ones. The temperature was in the 30's so I'm not sure if this is freezer damage. If it is what can I do?
I'm fortunate to not have a ton of experience with cold damage, but it's my understanding that it will spread like rot if left untouched. If it were me, I'd cut off any suspicious looking bits. Sending well wishes for your sad hoya!!
Hello where did you find tension rod plant stand?
Any help with Hoyas and thrips? Read on them but never seen anything hoya specific treatments
Ughh fungus nats. Thanks for the tips. I think only my Hoyas gets them. 💚😀 Your Million Hearts is so pretty.
I’m glad you enjoyed, Sherry! The million hearts is finally starting to grow 🙌 I’m excited to watch the leaves puff up as they harden 🤩
@@dreamsofhoya it’s really cute 😀 I have a tiny Variegated one. Not sure about growth of it. It’s putting out runners but no hearts. 🤔
I have not found any pests on my Hoyas yet. 🤞 I did have a fungus gnats infestation started last year when I brought unbeknownst to me an infested plant.
I tried everything at once on every single plants: yellow traps, DE, bottom water, covering pots holes, cinnamon, top dressing and finally Mosquito dunks (unable to find the bits)
I hardly see them anymore but I stay vigilant.
I use Pure Crop1 on my plants and so far all good.😅
It also works for root mealybugs but no one knows if Flat Mites so I use Sulpher
I am currently picking and smashing mealybugs on my Compacta. It's a chore but I am finding enjoyment in smashing their plump bodies. 😡🤜🦠
LOL RUclips was apparently alarmed by this and flagged the comment! It took me a while to discover it as a result, but thank you for the giggle :)
What type of hoya plants do you own?
