First I saw the layout which looked like a boring uneventful lap with no good corners or flow, then I watched this and was struck by how narrow the track is, and now I was just thinking how physically UGLY this track is. It seems to have NO redeeming qualities, and I have lost interest in this race. Who came up with this? The downtown area of Detroit has proven, multiple times, to be an awful race venue, but here we are.
@@bahamn15 basically to quote someone on the internet “Chevy execs wanted to move the race to be around their HQ in downtown. Also Belle Isle has logistical difficulties getting in and out, plus locals didn’t like that the park was closed off for some time because of the race.” I think the logistics and the locals not liking the park shutdown are the two most valid reasons

@@nicholascoleman1131 I've really noticed that with Hindy. Everyone in the sports car or endurance community seems to love him, but his stupidly high number of mistakes makes him hard to listen to sometimes, especially if you notice the mistake and are just waiting for him to notice (or be told).

@@IDeltic glad somebody dared to say it, I do still like both john and jeremy but over the years it has seemed to me that most of the broadcast time is spent with john making errors and jeremy correcting most of them. That dynamic was seemingly already there when I first started watching years ago. It can get a bit tiring especially when john thinks something unusual is happening and gets loud before calming back down after realising there was in fact nothing special going on. Though I have to say about jeremy as well that every once in a while, for some reason, he manages to make the strangest call one could imagine about an incident, as if it was a weird lapse of his normal sense of what's going on and who can be blamed for what.
It's long beach with all the things that make long beach good removed (except for the corner that will inevitably produce a track blocking accident, they nailed that one.)
And Acura won’t see LeMans again, despite being among the top of the field. Honda needs to get their act together and approve HPD’s efforts on behalf of the brand. No reason for Albuquerque and Delatraz to be in LMP2 when they could be fighting for a podium for a manufacturer that could be on top in F1, Indy, and IMSA/WEC. None.
It baffles me to this day that they didn’t attend in 2023 when it was apparent that the Acura had an advantage after Daytona. Going into 2025 and forward the Lemans hyper car field is going to be huge, so they’ve minimized their chances of participation and to be at the front of the field significantly.

I'm fine with this track. It's got some nice long, high-speed straights. Seeing these cars going so fast on city streets is cool. The walls keep drivers from abusing track limits too.
I mean have you seen Macau? GT cars race their on the regs. It's absolutely bonkers but honestly what a show they put on round there😮. But I agree I don't think either of tracks suit multiclas racing
I’m glad they tried it, I thought watching the Porsche lapping round with Tandy out in the lead looked great and it reminded me of old school stuff. Bell isle would be better tho. They should rotate the tracks more and keep the classics. Wish there were more gtp manufacturers, but disappointing.

With Belle Isle no longer an option for racing and this new track being, um, suboptimal, I really wish IMSA had gone to Mid Ohio instead of Detroit. The Detroit track just isn't good for racing.
Wasn't there any sanction for the 14 Lexus after crashing into the Corvette? That was wrekless and foul driving. This seems more a bumper car rampage than a fair race. It seems to me that this category allows to win no matter what. Disappointed! Bad luck for the Corvettes, better luck Next time.
Someone should tell Ford they have not been running a tribute livery to the Mustang, but instead have been running the 1999 Williams F1 livery. I wondered why Woody Woodpecker was missing.
Got to love the stewards decisions from race to race that makes no sense. Riberas hit that McLaren and “no further action” lol. Meanwhile before and prior races with similar incident, drive through penalty.
@@cobrafan427 agreed but that makes it “NOT A RACE INCIDENT” but a clear violation which I would have agreed with. Rieberas clearly wasn’t there enough to make that pass in that tight left corner so he still had some responsibly AC wording to the rules. So someone should have gotten a penalty even this late in the race. Their lack of consistency is what I’m calling out. That Lexus should have been penalized too if memory serves for punting the Vette off or the Vette penalized for moving in breaking zone as well. Just saying.

The lexus hitting the corvette was corvette's fault. The lexus driver's move was ambitious but he was there by enough and it did not seem like a ridiculous dive bomb by any means. The lexus had earned the right for racing room but was not given any. Riberas's move did seem like an awful divebomb but the way I see it, the incident could have easily been avoided if kirchhöfer had not made the dumb move reactively under braking. Had he stuck to the rules which specifically prohibit that kind of a move, I think he could have been fine.
So this tiny, bumpy, narrow, shitty street coarse with nearly no spectator views at all, they get GTP? But here in Canada, with a proper race track, over 60 years of history, including a decade of F1 races, somehow they can't bring the GTP cars here?

Wasn't able to watch it live, tried watching this replay, but with adds every 10 min or so, it was unbearable. C'mon IMSA... I understand the adds, I don't mind them if they don't spoil the experience. We're watching a race, not a NFL game
RUclips controls those, not IMSA. IMSA can request they are turned off 'mid-roll' but RUclips will still often ignore that & put short ones in anyway... It's how they make their money.
I'm glad the #10 finally won, but what a disaster this track is. It's like watching jet skis go around a swimming pool. Please either go back to the actual Belle Isle layout or ditch Detroit.
Guess it's a matter of licensing or agreement by both the series and track owners. When that can't be done, you either go without or find a replacement. Though I'd say it's less to do with IMSA and more the venue owners. But I prefer the older Detroit circuit for sure the Chevrolet sports car classic. Now that is a track!

To me it seems imsa tends to actually be somewhat stricter about their penalty policies than some other series, that's what I'm seeing anyway.

RUclips controls those, not IMSA. IMSA can request they are turned off 'mid-roll' but RUclips will still often ignore that & put short ones in anyway... It's how they make their money.

I'm glad the #10 finally won, but what a disaster this track is. It's like watching jet skis go around a swimming pool. Please either go back to the actual Belle Isle layout or ditch Detroit.

Guess it's a matter of licensing or agreement by both the series and track owners. When that can't be done, you either go without or find a replacement. Though I'd say it's less to do with IMSA and more the venue owners.
But I prefer the older Detroit circuit for sure the Chevrolet sports car classic. Now that is a track!
It is absolutely NOT worse than Monaco - despite the prototypes being ENORMOUS, they still had some overtakes, whereas there is never any in F1
They do race at COTA and the (modified) Indy F1 layout.... This year COTA will be September 1st and Indy September 22nd.
WEC is at cota this yr & imsa have the Indy 8 hours later in the season
