    2. To watch natural births in all their glory: / midwifeangelina
These videos really helped me see that not all deliveries have to involve blood-curdling screaming. Lol It also got me comfortable with the idea of pushing a whole baby out of me...naturally!

This was very informative! My OB just recently asked me to start thinking of my birthing plan. This was a great example. Loved that you are also down for the drugs if need be lol. I'm on the same boat. I'm 30 weeks today. So happy for you! Congratulations!

Thanks, & congrats to you! The nurses loved my little framed birthing plan. Lol As much as I overthink and overanalyze, it definitely helped me feel more in control of my birthing experience.

This gave me so much to think about. Thank you for sharing. Can you do a video and talk about how close to your birthing plan the labor/delivery was?

Much Love and Congratulations! I am adding this on top before I get into my encouragement to you. MAKE SURE EVERYONE KNOWS YOUR ALLERGIES!!! I'm talking make SURE it's in ALLLL your paperwork! Like, when you go for your monthly visits and especially if your regular midwife/doctor/doula is on call and not able to see you, you want ERRBODY to know your allergies! I am latex allergic so the last thing I needed was ANYONE near me with latex gloves, lotion w aloe, etc. Medical providers have moved away from latex but not all.
I developed the allergy when I was pregnant with our third. I can't even keep rubber bands on my wrists if I separate the mail at work. I also steer clear of aloe (even in sanitizer) because if it's not processed properly, there is natural latex in the leaves. I still see those beige gloves creep toward me sometimes at the dentist & first thing I say to the visiting hygienist is 'Did you read my chart?" And in the event you rest between contractions, last thing you need is blood pressure person coming toward you in those beige gloves and your mind is slightly occupied with the birth.
I intentionally decided on natural/unmedicated birthing plan before I even knew there was one! I never thought I'd have so much 'Girl! What?? You have lost your mind! comments.' But my husband was fully aware and extremely protective of my desires. This was pre-Internet, pre-cell phone, just books. You are so right in letting those that matter (i.e. intimate supporters) know what you want. Everyone else can go elsewhere. You've got enough stress knowing you are bringing the next generation of kings and queens!
I planned everything from my pre-during-post dietary needs, labor plans, positioning, through to nursing, etc. My employer gave a 6 MONTH maternity leave (woowoo!) and I knew the whole thing wouldn't be paid (only about 4 months) so I saved $$ for the entire 9 months until I was sent home.
I chose a midwife in addition to my doctor and a pediatrician who (all three) encouraged natural birth and nursing. She taught me positioning, gave me options for moving around, warm/cool compresses, and (VERY IMPORTANT) breathing techniquesss (yes, there are various ones) and it opens up everything. She was with me from the first meeting through my son's 1st month. I poured over the information I had in 1993 (what little I could find. Mainly articles written by midwives). I discussed this every prenatal visit so EVERYBODY knew what I wanted. I literally start to faint at the thought of needles, so epidurals weren't even a thought. I was also made aware that after a certain time in the delivery process, they aren't given. So I stayed very focused and I was determined to stay very clear headed.
Our first one came in 4 hours (hubs timed me on the shot clock of the Knicks game ;o]. My second one, we made the 45 minute drive to Northside...from Stone Mountain...on a Saturday...on 285... which turned into an hour and a half. I got to the hospital and within 15 minutes of my midwife's shift being over, he was here. She did a perenial massage (trust me, it was well worth it. When you're in the throws of those contractions, you'll appreciate someone who can see what's going on. It can be the difference between a painful unstructured 'rip' down there requiring many stitches or only a few. (I only needed two and didn't feel it at all when she was done. Took less than 30 seconds)
Third one didn't make it past the fire department! We got caught by a CSX freight train...can you count 72 cars...I did! I figured if fireman can save people from burning buildings, surely they can deliver a baby! Ha! Not if they're not paramedic trained! Saturday night with everybody profiling and cruising in mom's cars at 10 miles an hour down a one lane street added another 30 minutes. Forget about making it to the hospital! We pulled in, told them what was happening and every last one of them came out with those beige gloves! Not one paramedic on sight. The closest one was 35 minutes away even with the siren on to get to me. If it weren't for those breathing techniques and visualization, I surely would have had this child in the front seat of the car. Within 5 minutes of me being lifted into the ambulance, she was born. She's 22 now and that fire department was assigned a paramedic truck within the same week.
As Habakkuk 2:2 says: Write the vision, make it plain. Make sure your plans are well understood and documented. This is the best opportunity to do this.
Much love and blessings to you bringing in the kings and queens to make a better world!

YES, I don’t have any allergies so I didn’t even think of this, but that definitely would need to be on there!
& I’m actually surprised at how critical people are of some of the most natural things, especially in this day and age, but I’m sure you heard some mess back then. Lol good job sticking to your guns! 💕

Were you able to breathe through the intense pushing or did holding your breath help you with pushing?

By the end I was definitely holding my breath, just exhaling through moans if that makes sense. Lol

You're definitely not crazy and especially if you don't want the epidural I my mom had me without the epidural and once I do become a mother I would do not want the epidural as well so completely understandable

I think you're right to avoid placenta encapsulation. There's no evidence that it's even helpful. Plus, it can actually harm you. My cousin had a co-worker who got an infection after taking those pills.
