That soundtrack is one of the reasons I make sure to watch that movie every time it comes on tv. Just that music is worth the price of admission. Bravo!
As a child I see the film advertised in the TV Times at xmas in the 70s and asked my late great father what is this we watched it and its been my favourite war movie of all time I've even got my ring which is broadsword calling danny boy 😊
@@quinnobi42That movie is the grandaddy of all the World War II motion pictures. Not even the ones starring John Wayne were close. “Where Eagles Dare” is one of those movies that the audience has to pay close attention to the plot, because Richard Burton confused me. It is my favorite war movie due to the unique background and course of the film. You are referencing to the scene where the Gestapo Major is having drinks with the blonde woman inside a tavern, and during the conversation, she slips and opens up discrepancies in her claims of living in Düsseldorf. He silently picks up on it, suspects something, but doesn’t arrest her. That actor is still alive today, but the blonde woman died a few years after the movie originally hit theaters.
Well, at least, Ron Goodwin had the good taste and ability to take his inpiration from Wagner's opera The Walkyrie. Very apt choice for a plot involving a castle and taking place near Bavaria !
Watched this movie when it came out and sat through it twice that night. Great opening music and throughout the movie. One of the best for drummers and horns.
@@makyhsmakyhs6766 no....other way around. This film has nothing to do with OSS Oss was founded using mi6 and soe as a model. The early training was provided by the british. Same with army special forces.
You are not the only one, I watched it maybe 50 times and it's still never enough for me. Of all WW2 movies this is the only one which really captured my soul.
I remember as a child watching this movie for the first time, being mesmerized and entranced by such powerful music, it actually made me feel as if I was embarking on a great adventure, it was truly an enjoyable experience.
Very agree with, at that time I had exactly the same feeling ! What a show, we remain captivated by the film from start to finish and this extraordinary music fits perfectly 😉
Outstanding film and sound track never get bored watching this film over and over first saw this film when it came out in the cinema 1968 and is stuck with me ever since excellent
Me too! My dad took me to see this movie when I was barely a teen. I didn't know English and sonhe had to keep whispering in my ears so I can follow it.
Oh ,I remember first watching this on TV at Christmas in the 70`s and then dressing my Action Man up in winter camo over his German uniform.Great theme.
Creo que todos nos trasportamos 50 años atras , niños sentados junto a nuestro padre viendo esas montañas heladas y ese avion y oyendo esta poderosa introduccion.
I know it sounds daft, but I was just about to applaud at the end of the performance! Surely the #1 Second World War Theme closely followed by 'Band Of Brothers.'
Such a superb piece of music! The perfect accompaniment to the movie! In fact, I find that as one listens to the piece it actually serves as a synopsis of the film in musical form. It captures the entire plot sequence of the film in less than four minutes. THE best work of art Ron Goodwin ever created! ❤
When it starts I always try and find the JU52 and enveritably fail to do so, given its Luftwaffe winter Camo is so effective against the snowy backdrop!
AH! the power of the arts. In complementing the film, action, cinemetography etc. and of course, the allstar cast, this has got to be one of the most moving experiences of all time. Im torn between this film and The Good The Bad and the Ugly as life time favorite.
This one keeps reappearing on TV more times than you can shake a stick at. And I watch it every time. Used to drink with a studio Art Dept chap 40+ years ago, the studio working title was "Fistful of Hand Grenades" inevitably 🤣
It's one of those movies you have no problem watching on tv again and again when it is repeated which it often is especially for scenes like the one with major wilma
Its an Autumn sunday afternoon. Its cold, raining and windy. You have the sunday dinner in the oven. What more do you need them to watch this classic. Perfect Sunday afternoon film. Gives you goosebumps everytime you hear that intro drumbeat.

Working in the vacation on its first release as an assistant cinema manager.....assembling the ice cream usherettes in the interval at Schloss Adler ready to go into action just as the light came up ! Phew !
That soundtrack is one of the reasons I make sure to watch that movie every time it comes on tv. Just that music is worth the price of admission. Bravo!
Absolutely correct
In my opinion that film was Richard Burton's own James Bond movie. The scene around the table with the notebooks was pure unadulterated class.
A soundtrack so powerful it could invade other soundtracks in neighboring cinemas!
Love that
Powerful image😂
It raises the hair on the back of your neck and makes it stand STRAIGHT UP.
Yes, it did !

Mohsen Alkaabi : Naaah! 633 Squadron blows this out of the water, Ippolitov Ivanov’s Georgian War March is better too
