    Texturing was the final wall that was preventing me from getting better at 3D art. Every time I was overwhelmed by the nodes and the texturing process (unwrapping, exporting, etc.). Always making meshes, adding some basic colors, and then ending it there. I'm glad I found your tutorial because it is a much simpler way to bake textures! Now to go back and learn the nodes...
    God help me on geometry nodes.

    Hey Ryan, another great beginners tutorial! Just my consideration: Since Blender stores the baked data temporarily, it would be a bit faster to bake all the passes into the same texture node setup and save them subsequently with the appropriate name. That way you can leave the node setup untouched - just save the baked images via _"Save As..."_
    Hopefully Blender will fix the Metallic/Glossy issue soon!

    Hey, so nice tutorial. Thank you for putting this out there! I want to say that I initially found this tutorial to be frustrating as (a) past you didn't use the model promised in the thumbnail for the tutorial, and (b) I would swear the first seven minutes of the video are practically air; a lot of perceived rabbit trails and "with that out of the way, let's talk about our sponsor"(Quite jarring stuff for the viewer).
    HOWEVER! I am glad I stuck through it, for once you got into the right mindset at the 9 minute mark you performed the best tutorial I've seen in a while. You were concise and helpful, no fluff in sight, I learned quite a bit, etc, so thank you.
    I am aware that this is a year-old video at the time of me writing. I recognize that we as people improve our abilities over time, and I have no intention of criticizing something no one really has control over. As the internet has gained this "nice no matter what" attitude however, I firmly believe that this deprives us creators the ability to get the feedback we are sorely deprived of, and so I offer this comment to you.
    Best of luck in your endeavors sir.

      I'm curious. No promises, but would you be interested in me sponsoring one of your future videos for my game at a certain point? I offer no promise as it's in Alpha, I'm only one guy, and I'm only working on my art at the moment, but I'd be interested in supporting you in a business way.

    I was wondering, I have a kinda large object with different materials and masks on it (it's a house) When I click bake, nothing pops up in the black image. It's just blank. I think I have all the settings correct and I'm trying to bake it one more time. Does anyone have a fix? I want to import the obj into unity.

    • @RyanKingArt
      @RyanKingArt  2 года назад

      Hmm... So do you see a loading bar? Does it actually bake? Or does it give you any error messages? Make sure you have the same image, in both the image editor, and the image texture. So that you bake to the correct texture.

    is it normal for the texture bake to slowly go to 3% then finish all at once? or is something wrong with my setup

  • @josephvanwyk2088
    @josephvanwyk2088 2 года назад +1

    So to clarify - For example I have 10 unique houses made for a game to be used in Unreal. Do I bake each of the 10 on their own map, or do I bake all 10 houses on 1 map? My second question is, each house has windows, and parts that have emissions. When I bake everything together with the textures - does the map capture all info as it is, or is it something I need to re-setup afterwards in unreal (for glass and emissions)? I understand under bake type, you use combined - just wondering if it bakes glass, will it show glass in Unreal?

    • @RyanKingArt
      @RyanKingArt  2 года назад +2

      For your first question, it really depends on what you want to do. Either way will work fine. For your second question, I would bake an emission map, with just the emission values, and then use that in the final material setup, to tell the object where its an emission. And no, you can't bake glass. You will also need to bake a transparency map, to tell the material what parts are transparent. Also, I've never used unreal engine, just so you know, so I can't give you advice on unreal engine, only Blender. Hope this helps!

    So i just started learning about baking, is this the same process as transferring any settings from the geometry nodes to sketchfab? if so what is the bake type setting? if not then do i just apply the geometry nodes to my mesh and will it show up on sketchfab?

    • @RyanKingArt
      @RyanKingArt  2 года назад +2

      Yes! If you want your Geometry nodes to work on Sketchfab, you will need to apply the geometry nodes modifier, so that it becomes actually geometry. Then you can upload to sketchfab. 👍‍

    • @RyanKingArt
      @RyanKingArt  2 года назад +1

      Hmm... no. I don't know why that would happen. The only thing I can think of, is if your UV mapping is a bit messed up. You could try re-UV unwrapping it and see if that helps.

    • @RyanKingArt
      @RyanKingArt  2 года назад +1

      Oh wait, I do have one other idea. It might be because the "Margin" is either too high, or too low. The default is 16 px. Its in the baking settings. Try turning it down to a small number, to maybe a 6, or a 1 . And then bake it again. Hope this helps.
