- Hundreds of grounded planes stretched out before us in the misty morning light.
All of them had their engines covered in protective sheets, and some even had their windows plastered up as well, keeping the interiors protected from the harsh elements.
It was our first time visiting the tarmac at Changi Airport, and even as we drove in by car, signs of the pandemic were everywhere. The airport was like a crowded parking lot with planes grounded across the tarmac.
Just as we were reaching our destination, a Singapore Airlines Boeing 744F cargo freighter took off from the runway, circling over the airport gracefully.
For a moment, we had forgotten our purpose as we watched the bird fly away into the distance.
There are few things that inspire wanderlust like our national carrier, with her iconic blue and gold livery, flying through the clouds.
Although Singapore Airlines’ large fleet of planes are always breathtaking, their small details are no less amazing. The airline was built on the backs of Singaporeans representing the best of Singapore around the world.
Having flown on the national carrier on countless occasions, we found it extremely difficult to imagine what Covid-19 had done to one of the world’s best airlines.
Passenger traffic and revenue has collapsed for many airlines. But yet, they still provide an essential service to us in the form of bringing in essential goods.
Singapore Airlines’ cargo department is vital for seeing shipments of masks, ventilators, and healthcare supplies being flown back home. Passenger planes have also been modified to transport essential supplies such as food and medicine.
Staff have taken pay cuts, yet soldier on in delivering essential goods to everyday Singaporeans like you and me. Their work continues in every cargo shipment to ensure that these goods get to their final destination.
The national flag carrier and pride of Singapore continues to connect us as a hub for international freight and commerce.
As documentary filmmakers, we wanted to capture the stories of those who have been helping to bring in essential supplies to Singapore, and so we came.
We spoke to pilots, cargo duty managers, and aircraft engineers, documenting their stories as they shared about how the national carrier continues to adapt to the constantly evolving situation.
Through this film, we hope to highlight the strength, resilience, solidarity and unity of the people behind our national flag carrier, mirroring the same spirit that is seen in all Singaporeans in this global fight against the Covid-19 virus.

Pandora Wong / Producer & Director
Pandora Wong is a Singapore-based multi-disciplinary creative and co-founder of ORANA Studio. With more than a decade of experience in photography and videography, Pandora has worked closely with notable clients such as Goldman Sachs, Prudential and the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth. Many of her works have been published across the APAC region in magazines, newspapers and online publications. She was nominated for the World Press Photo Joop Swart Masterclass in 2016. Pandora graduated from Glasgow School of Art with a BA (Honors) in Communication Design.

Yeo Kai Wen / Producer & Director
Kai Wen has bathed in arsenic-contaminated water, travelled to the arctic’s edge, and slept in Asia’s largest slum, all in the name of telling stories. Kai Wen has a strong interest in photojournalism, having worked with local newspapers The Straits Times and Lianhe Zaobao. His experience in this industry allows him to adapt to constantly-changing environments, helping clients achieve their goals through images that tell poignant stories. He has travelled across the APAC region to cover stories for Facebook, the Arctic to produce a documentary on climate change and Peninsula Malaysia to do an investigative documentary on the social-environmental effects of farming.

I often went to Singapore for the past 5 years until Covid 19 hit us and all the borders have been closed and I’m no longer to visit Singapore. I’m pretty sad because Singapore feels like my 2nd home. However, I’m so proud for Singaporean the way they handle this situation and SQ as one of the best airlines in the world. Well done, Singapore!

Have always wanted to be a pilot just for the mere passion to reach and be part of the skies, been trying to get into SQ for some time but it was really tough. Hope to be able to pursue my dream again once this whole pandemic finally comes to an end, it's just painful to see so many aircrafts grounded across the world. To all the aviators, pilots and cabin crews, we will pull through and reach back towards the sky, stronger and better!

A Singapore for all Singaporeans. Unfortunately, even though I'm a citizen, I don't feel welcome & taken care of here.
Anyways, SQ is an excellent airline. The only thing that I'm concerned about is that they listened to an environmental group (who didn't even check facts), instead of the thousands of avgeeks who wanted a flight to nowhere
Seriously SIA is on the brink of bankruptcy. It is rare for a airlines which totally rely on international flights and no option to switch to domestic market. RIP.
