@@Mukation Idk, I appreciate that they used practical effects but it made the lycans just look really weird with the disproportionately large head. The CGI werewolves in Van Helsing look much better even though they have outdated CGI, and the Love Death Robots werewolves are just amazing

Van Helsing is the reason I have an interest in Vampires and Werewolves. It's such a good movie, I wish more movies would go the route of combining multiple mythologies and supernatural concepts. @ludnqka The reason it didn't was because Kate said she didn't want to, and then Hugh also turned it down because she said no, but he did agree to voice the character in the video game which is the same thing as the movie but has a different way to get to the ending.
This was a really original take on the Dracula/Werewolf/Frankenstein Monster story.
They really should've just gone for the sequel and flushed out the character more. Maybe he doesn't get the curse of the werewolf off of him and is forced to live with it, as well as all the death he's dealt to others around him.
Now that he knows what falling in love is, he's going to be very guarded with women interested in him. Now that he knows the power/curse he wields and his own backstory, he could've become a drifter that works for himself helping those in need of ridding their towns of monsters.

On a side note, I liked how they held true to the theme of Frankenstein when characterizing Frankenstein's monster: man is the real monster.

Excpet for the fact that they probably had no idea what in Gods green earth frankstien was doing and were just angry at the fact he grave robbed them, tearing apart old family member corpses will ruffle more then a few feathers, and if man really was the monster then why didn't they just go after the monster then? Yes, it was a deep hole, but throw stuff down, i never got that message from the og book. The book doesn't even say the monster is ugly if i remember correctly, but the main thing i getting away with it is that "if you create life on purpose, do not abandon it as soon as its born" victor created the monster if it was horrifying he should have made it less so, he didn't, he then ran away, he tried to play God and got cold feet, instead of seeing if his creation was unstable he instead just felt nothing but fear as if he didn't create it and give it life knowing full well what it looks like, man isnt the monster here, its victor, a man yes but he ran away and then died escaping a creation he saw through with his own hands to make and also another message i got was "Dont play God less you want him to sucker punch you"

@@theenderdestruction2362Does the word "monster" not imply ugliness in appearance? If he was somewhat normal enough in appearance then he would never really be considered a monster. Critics and fans do not watch the movies looking for the same things
From a critic point of view the acting was not great, over the top in most places. Pacing was not good. Set design was drab. Story did not flow very well with lots of holes. Contrite and unoriginal. Critics look at a movie from the technical/design/delivery aspect often being "writers" The movie was neither ground breaking or executed in a way that really makes it stand out from a movie making standpoint
Not much of that matters to a fan. The movie told a story, had some cool graphics and tied some things together that we do not see done a lot. The movie is fine and campy in the way that many monster movie fans like
Just like League of Extraordinary Gentlemen the movie is great in MUCH the same ways which is why there is the gap between viewers and critics in the same way.

I just want to comment to thank this movie for being part of my life. I first watched this movie when i was about 6-8 years old and it was amazing when I first watched. I just finished it now today, and I wanted to say that all of the surprise and hope of the movie is still there as when I first watched it. I understand it more, and I am watching videos to further dive into the story of the plot. I am 22 now, and it’s a movie I still would look forward to seeing. Definitely one of my top 3. From the story, to the characters, the actors of choice, the scenes, the transformations, I LITERALLY LOVE IT ALL.
One of my favorite scenes was the ballroom scene, it still is. I just realized today that in that scene they were all vampires in the reflection, though when I was younger I thought it was just of Drac and Anna.
I am so glad to see people doing videos of this movie. It’s very sentimental to me. I had more family (as life goes) exposing me to such great cinema, and the exposure in general to such attention grabbing cinemas earlier in my childhood has really made me appreciate cinema and all that goes into it. Great shoutout to my dad, he definitely put on. I am glad to see this movie age as it did. Thank you for this explanation also, serves this movies great! :)

And I think the reason the wives' eyes are different from the other vampires is to show that they are not only more powerful then a normal vampire but also to indicate which are older. Which is why Marishka's eyes were golden, where as Verona had blue and Aleera's were pink. If you notice Dracula's eyes are also different, as they are more of a white/silver color.

bit of a late reply to your comment, but both these movies were intended to be at least trilogies. Universal at the time I believe didn't think there would be much value in a large franchise, especially since the sheer cost and difficulties filming the lord of the rings was a massive risk that only paid off due to incredible (and expensive) talent in absolutely every miniscule aspect.
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen could have been a victorian/steampunk avengers. And that cursed knowledge haunts me :(

I thought the same. I figured the Dad (Boris) figured out that only a Werewolf could kill a Vampire - something that could truly kill Dracula, but he couldn't control it because he didn't transform during a full moon like Van Helsing did during the final battle with Dracula. But before Boris could regain himself, Dracula captured him, then used him as a test subject, as well as a guard dog to try to kill Anna and Valcan. The last time we see the Dad, confirmed by his son Valcan, was when he was back in Dracula's castle, who died due to the experiments being too much for him to handle. This also explains why Dracula had a cure for the Werewolf curse, which tells me he also knew about this weakness, either he learned this on his own, or was something Boris confessed to him, and was prepared to deal with anyone who happened to have the curse. I also noticed that Dracula used Valcan, a newly turned Werewolf, to use as a sacrifice to reanimate/birth his children just like he used Boris, so who knows, maybe Dracula was the one who turned Boris into a Werewolf because using just a human wasn't enough, which explains why he has a cure to begin with.
I wish we got a sequel or remake for this universe. The movie was one hell of a ride! If you ever need a good movie full of action or something for Halloween (lol), this is a movie worth watching.
