Acquire is one game that holds up after 50 years.
Yes, the most glaring omission for me too.
Yeah, it’d maybe be in my top 20. I don’t think it’s quite as robust as you seem to, it can easily hose players.
Agricola (just putting my favorite games individually to see which get the thumbs)
Agricola is still one of my all time favorites! Would definitely make my top 10 'A' games.
I really like this topic as a 5-6th year watching. Tom did these solo in the past; hearing the crossovers & lack of cult of the new is entertaining.
Ark Nova is my number 1!
Akropolis is my most played board game that starts with A.
Awkward Guests indeed: my favorite from the A games I own.
And I just noticed in this video, although it has been around for some time now: I love that the time signatures in the separator jingles correspond to the numbers themselves! (Starting with number 9, that is) That’s a really, really cool detail!

It's a fantastic game, but has a LOT of issues for a broad gaming audience.
1. Out of print.
2. Rules/Terms Heavy
3. Commitment - requires involved, knowledgeable players
Those hurdles are a lot to get over for a game among thousands of games.

Nice to see Adrenaline get a mention, it's very under-rated/under-appreciated. Great game. I remember the first time I played it with my old game group and warning them not to gang up on the same person (which was usually me), but they didn't listen and I was killed more than anyone else, but I won the game. :-) Very satisfying.
Azul: Queens Garden would be high up on my list. Air, Land and Sea, Aquamarine, All Star Draft and Arboretum are great, too!
I picked up Adventure Land a few years ago based on Tom's recommendation. I've enjoyed it a bunch ever since.
I would have had Akropolis there :) cool list!

Alchemists is a game I respect more than I love. I enjoy it and find it fun! But, it's not that high up for me. -Chris

I'm totally with Chris about Agricola, "all creatures big and small" gives me all the best parts of Agricola in a fraction of the time and complexity. I got rid of normal Agricola, but this one will stay (until I find this big box edition maybe)

Wich are good/best for 2 player?
Trying to do my own list while they go through I thought I would struggle to get 10 but in the end I had heaps.
Azul, Ark Nova, Arkham Horror 2e, Aquatica, Age of Wonders planetfall, Alhambra, architects of the west kingdom , asara, asking for trobils, artemis project.
Asara comes in at 4 or 5 for me. Get the most of something (like Alhambra except towers instead of buildings) and uses cards as workers. Kramer & Kiesling.
No Agemonia? Kinda surprised
My to would be:
10 Agra, 9 Antike II, 8 Awkward Guests, 7 Ark Nova, 6 Ankh, 5 Agricola, 4 Alchemists, 3 Architects of the West Kingdom, 2 Aquatica, and 1 Argent: the Consortium. Argent is also my overall #1 game too.
Argent is one of the best worker placement games ever made.
Look at these back Acquire, Automobile (Martin Wallace), Arboretum, Alein Frontier, Android Netrunner, so many omissions. 😮

Top 5 games that I'm interested in playing at some point are Abyss, Amun-Re, Apiary, Ark Nova and Atlantis Rising. Other games that I've liked include Agricola, Arboretum, A.R.T. Project and Awkward Guests, which all could potentially have a chance at appearing there somewhere if I had played them more and knew them better.
Ankh, Agricola and Azul are the only ones that come to mind

Ark Nova would be an easy #1 for me.
