Woody always had an outstanding group of players. I saw his band at least 4 times, and they were always hot!

CORRECT PERSONNEL: WOODY HERMAN HERD 1983 in Barcelona:
Saxes(L-R): Seth Brody, Frank Tiberi, Jim Carroll, Mike Brignola
Tpts(L-R): Bill Byrne, Scott Wagstaff, Byron Stripling(L), Mark Lewis, Paul Mazzio
Bones(L-R): Mike Davis, John Fedchock, Randy Hawes
P: Phil DeGreg, B: John Adams, D: Dave Miller
Note: Jim Lowe labeled 1984, it is definitely 1983. Per saxist Dave Rickenberg: “This must have been ’83. Paul McKee and I both started at the beginning of the tour in January of ‘84. I replaced Seth Brody at that time”.

Jim, thanks Much for posting the 2 Woody 1983/Barcelona videos. SUGGEST: go into RUclips EDIT mode and change the date to 1983. This was definitely in 1983.

Funny story about Bassist JOHN ADAMS, that “GREAT AMERICAN”, per Woody. JOHN ADAMS himself posted this to FB “Woody’s 1Liners” a few years ago: => “The story on Woody's calling me a "Great American": I got to go on my 1st of 3 tours of Europe with the band after I had been in it for month or two. We were playing at the memorable Montreux Jazz Festival, and as I was ending my solo on Greasy Sack, Woody, likely being a little jet-lagged introduced me as, "John Adams, a Great American, who has his own insurance company!" We all cracked up knowing that he was thinking of the other patriot, John Hancock. The follow morning on the bus pianist Pat Coil, veteran of the band, leaned back toward me and said, "you watch, since he called you that and it got a reaction, he is going to introduce you that way every night." And for another year he did that very thing, but never with the insurance company reference.”

I agree - I'm so grateful for the upload: this is so great to see! Any headway on naming the cats?

      I can give a few:
Don't know the 2nd tenor player (far left) but then, Frank Tiberi, Jerry Pinter and Mike Brignola.
Dave Miller - drums, might be John Oddo on piano.
Trumpets L-R Bill Byrne, Scott Wagstaff, Byron Stripling, Mark Lewis.. Last one unknown
      Fedchock on lead bone.
      That's all for me....

JR. mostly correct, but a couple of errors: That’s not Jerry Pinter; it’s Jerry Pinter look-alike(HAHA) JIM CARROLL on tenor. The left-end tenor is SETH BRODY. That’s RANDY HAWES on piano, and the Trumpeter on the right is PAUL MAZZIO. The pianist is PHIL DEGREG.

@@cjgaddy Well thanks for that! At least back then, Seth sure as hell could've passed for Jerry Pinter's body double! The only thing that was at all making me question it was Pinter is at that time, I never saw him play a HR 'piece. Anyhoo, Jim Carroll.....yup! As for the others, I've never heard of them. Time to do more homework!

Well, JR - my man MIKE BRIGNOLA got me straightened out on the Tenors... I had SETH & JIM mixed up. It's JIM CARROLL that is the Jerry Pinter look-a-like, and SETH is on the left. Here's the correct layout: Saxes(L-R): Seth Brody, Frank Tiberi, Jim Carroll, Mike Brignola

Too much drum solos in this video clip and not enough of the band.
