    They should have made a Bioshock that was set before everything went to shit in Rapture. Something along the lines of someone finding out what Ryan's plasmids can do to you and his attempt to cover it up. Something like this would be awesome; giving the players a better understanding and experience to what a regular life could have been like.

      +SneaksFrWeeks There isa book about the building and fall of Rapture. It's called "Rapture" and is by John Shirley.
      Its a good view on how things went down before everything went to shit, and /how/ everything went to shit. However, even though its official merchandise it isnt completely canon (since Ken Levine never read it and didnt really supervise it at all)

      binx isma anti personnel rounds is for unarmored targets. Basically hollow point bullets. You CAN kill one that way but its a waste and those bullets could have killed at least 10 splicers

    • @hidan407
      @hidan407 6 лет назад

      binx isma Not really a right or wrong way to play. I had a stealth based style that got the tonics for stealth walking and Camo, and try to kill every splicer with a clean shot to the head so i dont ever waste ammo. And if i get in a fire fight, just use telekinesis to use a item as a shield and retreat and set up a trap for the enemies xD

    I do wish that the splicing changed your character. You get a TON of ADAM in the game over a relatively short stretch of time. I find it hard to believe that you could be fine and the Splicers used enough MORE ADAM than you to do that to them.

      +Annie Trinity it's not a plot hole. in the book, the addictive/cancer factor could be removed but Fontaine didn't allow it so addicted splicers would keep on buying them. The plasmids deployed after for Jack to find were modified without the addictive/cancerous side effects

    • @MinoriGaming

      The Splicers are that deformed simply do to them getting absolutely addicted to ADAM. I mean, Splicers consume a lot more than Jack did.
      However, there is evidence to suggest he did become deformed, as one of the things a Little Sister can say when she sees you is "Their faces are melted!" Hpwever, this also happens when Splicers get too close, so it could just be a stock phrase.

    • @jackofshadows8538
      @jackofshadows8538 6 лет назад +1

      Someone who is REALLY desperate for bullets. AP bullets are only useful after you have researched Big Daddies a few times with the camera. You have to research all 4 types. Otherwise AP bullets have the same effect as normal bullets.
      Also, Slugger Splicers can be hit with a shock then whacked with a wrench early game, right?
      But by Hephaestus [I think] they can do shock damage AND are immune to shock. Only 'Static Dischrge' and 'Electric flesh' has an effect upon them but it won't stun them, just do them damage. ONLY if you have fully researched them.
      Researching Little Sisters fully boosts your Health and Eve bars a LOT.

      While I love infinite, especially how engaged you get with the characters, I'm pretty sure most people agree that the this bioshock is the best of the 3. For many reasons:
      the environment wasn't as linear (more open), better plasmids (where did telekinesis go?), you could see the upgrades done to ur weapons, the architecture was more varied, better hidden items/ puzzles/passages, etc. Overall, it was a lot more intricate and packed whereas infinite just felt very linear

    • @jackofshadows8538

      No. What happens in BS1 and 2 is because Adam is taken from dead bodies by Little Sisters, then passed on to others in the form of Plasmids, the memories of the dead people the Lil Sisters drank Adam from is passed on to the main character so he's seeing memories of dead splicers as the Adam was once part of them. That's why Lil Sisters call dead people 'Angels'... because the Lil Sisters probably SEE a lot more than normal people do because of the undersea leeches they carry in their stomachs that form a gestalt entity of leech and human child. The Sisters drink the blood of Splicers and the leeches convert the blood into Adam which is probably removed from their bloodstream or even directly from the leech in their bellies?
      Either way, Lil Sisters are very tough to kill as the Adam is a form of stem cells that repair damage to bodies very quickly BUT they are very unstable and so Suchong and Tennenbaum developed a way to produce Adam more quickly than letting a leech feed from a human. Because little girls are still growing, the leeches seemed to merge better with them than adults and formed a gestalt being formed of the two.
      But they needed protection so the Big Daddies which were designed to repair the parts of Rapture needing work were put to use as 'Protectors' for the Little Sisters by using a special pheromone that made the Big Daddies very protective of any Little Sisters.

    Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 is a Sci-Fi Novel based in a Dystopian future where books are banned. Basically V for Vendetta meets The Book Thief. Levine wrote BioShock as a critique of Ayn Rand's Philosophy (Actually plagiarizing it damn near verbatim [Atlas being a reference to Atlas Shrugged, as well as Who is Atlas being a reference to the same book and Who is John Galt.]) Now Infinite was an allegory to today set in 1912, So the references are in the games, because most of them, the Shock series and Deus Ex are preaching Bradbury's Message in some form, which was read for tomorrow you may not get the luxury to.

    It could be the number 451 represents the author and book which almost every fan of science fiction genre has read and probably respects.
    Also, a lot of the games listed with 451 are dystopian science fictions,[ one of them is about writing books I think specifically too so there is a direct connection], Fahrenheit 451 is a classic member of the dystopian science fiction pantheon of stories.

    Ryan was only speculating out loud about the reason for the ghosts. The final explanation came years later in Burial at Sea II where it is simply Elisabeths influence on the place.

    • @SarahAndreaRoycesChannel

      It was never more than speculation on Ryans side, so you can't call it a retcon.

    • @MarioMan392
      @MarioMan392 7 лет назад

      When Bioshock first came out, I'd wager dollars to donuts that Ryan's speculation was considered a fact of Rapture by the devs. They didn't plan for Elizabeth to be a thing at the time and it was something they changed later to make an "ah-ha" moment during burial at sea.

I'm serious too because I played through Bioshock several times and then when Deus Ex came out it just felt so familiar. Then it pops up in other games like Dishonored and I remember it again. • @angbandsbane
    @angbandsbane 8 лет назад

    Well, the Patrick and Moira thing makes sense. I missed it myself, but I've read if you go into Fontaine's office near the end of the game, there actually is a poster for Cohen's play up on the wall, the implication being Atlas was looking right at that particular poster when he first gave their names.
    (On a similar note, the family angle actually exposes a chip in Atlas' story if you're paying attention. At one point, he mentions bringing his wife and son with him to Rapture, but later on, he reminisces about taking Moira to one of the clubs in Rapture on their first date).

    To answer your question about 10 yes, it does have a higher purpose because 451 references a famous book about a dystopian society that burned books because their ideals were "outdated". 451 is the Degrees in Fahrenheit around which most paper begin to burn. If you ever read 451 and enjoy it, there are similar books like 1984, and Anthem.

    Warren Spector the Producer for Deus Ex and System Shock 1 explains why the first code is 0451 in System shock 2, Deus Ex, Bioshock, etc. is because it was actually the security code for Looking glass studios which is where Warren Spector and Ken Levine used to work at before Spector went to Ion Storm and Levine went to Irrational Games.

    The number 451 is a reference to Ray Bradbury's 1953 dystopian novel Fahrenheit 451, in which books are outlawed. 451 could be described as a more descriptive variant of 403 Forbidden. This status code is standardized in RFC 7725.

    I completely agree about adding in the choice to develop into a splicer type character or a humanoid type character. That sounds like it would be so much fun to do. But, the game is still perfect, to me. Totally enjoyable. Once, I saw a Big Daddy glitch into an animation that looked like he was smacking a little sister over and over, his hand stopping a few inches above her head. I had a recording on an old flip phone but.. that's gone.

    another one: there was supposed to be a usable teleport plasmid, but due to the devs not being able to keep it balanced (teleporting through entire levels like you can in dishonored, or escaping battles whenever you're about to die) it got removed from bioshock 1 and instead they turned it into a easter egg in bioshock 2

  • @NeilHoward17

    Loved it.
    though Ken Levine only was really involved with System Shock 2, Bioshock 1, and Bioshock Infinite. He joined Looking Glass after System Shock 1 was released, and left before Thief: The Dark Project shipped (like Warren Spector). Bioshock 2 was developed by another studio entirely, but did have some carry over in terms of artists and designers, but not Levine.
    Keep these up, Syy.

Concerning the Protectors i find it funny that in the french version of BioShock, Big Daddies are actually called Protectors.
