There are lessons in this commentary for all levels, including life & death of common corner shapes. I take out a few key points that were instructive at my level of KGS/OGS 2-3d. Of course there is the spectacular fighting for which this video is worth watching alone, very well explained with key variations. 2:10 Modern pincer joseki 5:44 How to render the 2-space shimari valueless by pressing down the adjacent side first, then invade at the key point 12:18 Musing about the importance (heaviness) of cutting stones 13:56 The risks and rewards of jumping ahead in a running battle 17:12 The surprising hane below in what's "not joseki" because of the efficiency gain, turning a previous exchange into a good one 33:43 "expanding liberties in a fight is done by running towards empty space while making solid connections" - I knew that but never had it articulated like that 41:21 BTW the bulky five has 8 inside liberties. It's not so difficult to remember. 1, 2, 3 are "small eyes" meaning that's how many fighting liberties there are inside, while 4, 5, 6 and 7 are big eyes holding respectively 5, 8, 12 and 17 fighting liberties inside the eye(*)(**). Since there are already two black stones inside the bulky five, it holds 8-2=6 liberties. (*) There's actually a recursive formula for it, being L(n) = n-2 + L(n-1) for n>1. You can see that an eye becomes "big" if L(n) grows with more than 1, which is true for n=4. Big eyes not only matter for calculating fighting liberties but Big Eyes win liberty fights against Small Eyes, which is a surprising truth, well articulated by Richard Hunter in his articles/books. (**) One should be careful when the eye is in the corner because if the opponent catches the two 1-2 points, they create an eye within and then the fighting liberties drop considerably! That in return means a move at 1-2 might require a response at 2-1, so that the eye becomes smaller again.
"Mi Yuting doesn't like the et cetera, he likes fight". That was such an intense game, thanks for covering it. I found the format a bit long and harder to focus with such many different situations, but at the end, it was worth definitely worth it. I also don't follow this much these players, so it's really nice to have some coverage on these two (and chinese players overall that are a bit less under the spotlight imo).
Excellent video! I think an hour length for a pro game review is completely reasonable, can't see going much faster without glossing over summer important implications (it's at the 1:45 hour point where I tend to avoid watching). Really good job conveying the drama and implications of their moves. I also appreciate the mini bio's to give some context to their play styles.
Thank you for indepth explanation. My level is 6 kyu, and i cannot understand top professional play. Every time i watch these videos i try to predict the next move, with SJS, and pretty much everyone in the top 200 players -- i need much more time to understand. This video is very good!
So happy I discovered your channel! I LOVE your explanations and feel they help my pattern and concept osmosis better than any other channel, and I really like all the usual Go suspects, too. I took up Go during covid and gave myself the goal of 5k and then I'd stop. I managed to reach 5k in 5 months, and stopped playing. I introduced a buddy from the local chess club to Go and he's infatuated so I have recent renewed interest in it and have been watching some videos. I feel you speak to my level and cover everything I want to hear. Please keep it up! You're appreciated.
Hadn't heard of Mi Yuting before this review. Instant fan of Mi Yuting afterwards. It has got to be intense sitting across from that kind of play. Thanks for the great review.
Great Video. I learned a lot. Thanks for teaching. One thing I recommend is to get rid of the music. Sometimes I like to listen to music when watching videos, but I prefer my own music.
B5 would control white's counterplay better, but it fails to take a liberty immediately, so white would still win the capture race in the corner by one move
even if you make the review very casual so everyone can understand it, I would have liked to go a little more in depht analyse about white's weakness after 36 around P9 and N7 because I think this stood like that bcs they went really far in thinking, 08 is too light and lonely as connexion stone for me atm. Great review tho, I suscribe. AND PLEASE BUY A NEW MIC EVEN AT 200% I HAVE ISSUES HEARING U. See ya
They represent where the move was played in the actual game. I agree a lot of the time it's just added mess, but I like all the rest of the graphics, so it's a bit of a conundrum
The way you make the game a conversation / story is so compelling. Binging out of order, but binging.
crazy game, great cast. Thanks !
Best commentary I have seen in 30 years following Go.

I like how at 30:49 the exciting music starts when you say "empty triangle." If that was intentional, nice touch. 😁

Like the board and stones you use. Adds to the the videos.
I appreciate the in depth explanation, I wouldn’t worry too much about the length. Very interesting game! I may yet climb out of triple digit kyu.
for a game where the reading is as insane as that, i guess it takes as long as it takes
Like the music! But I would maybe turn it down just a tad!
i learnt a new collective noun: a "cornucopia of liberties" 41:20

Solid, as always. Really enjoyed this one.
Outstanding commentary

i respect the longer videos, more telegraph more good
Definitely one of the most entertaining pro game reviews I've seen! Thanks for showing so many variations in a very exciting game.
Music choice is fine, though personally my preference would be to have music at a lower volume or not at all
Please no music. We can play our own if we want it.
Love your videos and commentary though!
I became a fan of Mi Yuting after this game :) Great commentary! Really professional delivery
Very entertaining commentary! Very exciting game!
Beautiful !

Great content thank you
i love the dramatic hollow knight music, very fitting!
What a cool game! Thanks
His willingness to play empty triangles is awe inspiring 😂😂
Loved the game and commentary. And the music was the cherry on top. *chef’s kiss*
Great Video. I learned a lot. Thanks for teaching. One thing I recommend is to get rid of the music. Sometimes I like to listen to music when watching videos, but I prefer my own music.
lol turn the music down or off for meeeeeeee. Please and thank yoy, BTW, love the channel dont stop baby!!
Great review! I prefer no music.
They have really strong reading
I wonder if Black could have played B5 instead of C5 during that capture race in response to W A4.
B5 would control white's counterplay better, but it fails to take a liberty immediately, so white would still win the capture race in the corner by one move
nice video again. I love how you are able to pick the craziest games. id prefer without the music background!
that empty triangle is soooo bm LOL
I like this music. It feels like Hollow Knight - one of my favorite games!
And great commentary also :)
It's Greenpath from Hollow Knight
@@mmitchamharding so that's way it's feels like a Hollow Knight :D

this editor with flashing stones is really confusing :)
