That was a last minute addition when they thought there wasn't even any space left for it. One dude miraculously added them by resusing and combining small soundbites that were already in the game
I feel like the similar sounding cries may be a small part of why a lot of people feel so attached to the original Kanto Pokémon. I think it really helps give them a unique identity as a group, even though it was only done because of limited resources.
Reminds me of how certain animals will mimic or have similar sounds in a category is species once breeding came into play. These creatures can communicate with similar sounds.
If an evolved Pokémon shares a similar cry with it's previous form, I feel like that gets a pass. It even makes sense. But when Poliwag and Ditto sound exactly alike, that's when it's interesting.
Put into account the hardware limitations at the time. At the time sqeezing 39 different audio files+music+SFX+scripts+100s of sprites into a cartridge the size of the Game Boy's was quite an acheivement. Think before you judge.
See, I’m fine with evolutions having some altered version of the previous form, but when an entirely different line shares the same sounds... That’s where it gets iffy.
I had no idea people were so picky about these glitchy sounding error noises, lol. I played the shit outta gen 1 as a kid but I never remembered the cries..

Gen 1 has a total of 38 base cries the original 151 follow in gen 1 with the majority of them having the same sound as a previous one but with different pitch. Vulpix and Ninetales's cries are based on Graveler's, Krabby and Kingler are based on Mr. Mine, Kadabra and Alakazam's based on Mr. Mine, and a lot of others are based on Staryu's cry including Mew
I love how the cries are so simplistic but they give you the scope of how certain Pokémon behave. Even if they do sound the same, the pitch of the cry is heightened or lowered to distinguish them and make them seem stronger or weaker.
Yeah gotta give them credit that they still found a way to make all of their cries distinct even if they came from the same original sound. Like you can still differentiate dragonair to dragonite.

Maybe the Poliwag was a Ditto in disguise?
and Charizard is identical to ryhorn
and I just remembered goldeen and caterpie are identical too
There were only 39 unique cries created. THANK YOU GAMEFREAK FOR YOUR HARD WORK AND DEDICATION
puriisu andasutando
Derpzo you were meant to say "47" unique cries. NOT 39!
What do you mean by 47? I heard it was 39. Eh, I dont want to argue over the sound a Pokemon makes.
Derpzo oh ok, I understand cuz u are a derpy little dragonite :3
Put into account the hardware limitations at the time. At the time sqeezing 39 different audio files+music+SFX+scripts+100s of sprites into a cartridge the size of the Game Boy's was quite an acheivement. Think before you judge.
Jynx's cry RULES!
Such talent..
Same for Vaporean
Same with MISSINGNO
"We need 151 pokemon cries"
"How about 19 and we just kinda tweak them"
See, I’m fine with evolutions having some altered version of the previous form, but when an entirely different line shares the same sounds... That’s where it gets iffy.
It's all due to hardware limitations. They didn't have much storage to work with for gens 1 and 2, so they had to get creative.
I had no idea people were so picky about these glitchy sounding error noises, lol. I played the shit outta gen 1 as a kid but I never remembered the cries..

@@elderalencar4832 r/woooosh
They did get damn creative with those slight alterations - most if not all of these Pokémon had their identity enhanced by the sound of their specific cry.

why is this so true

This is so true xD
I can watch this and still play the original and hear individual, unique sounds coming from each one. You can’t trick a nostalgically loaded brain even after 25 years
1:25 Psyduck's and Bellsprout's cries suit them perfectly.
"We have 151 creatures to make sounds for"
"Well we got six sound effects, figure it out"

And creativity was moreso.
It's genuinely pretty impressive how they managed to make so few sounds fit on those little cartridges by just altering their playback.
Stop trying to be ditto and get your own cry.
Ha owa oh
That's my pkmn cry
Whadie thats my cry
Yeah sure
Wtf
I never realized how close Cloyster and Fearow's cries were.
imaging your walking outside and a bird looks at you and screeches like it just ate a fucking computer
Search" loudest bird " on Yt you will be surprised it sound like an 8bit pokemon Irl.
Dude I'm so impressed, this guy had to reorder each scream to make it similar to the next, congratulations, you're a genius.
I ALWAYS KNEW THE JYNX AND HYPNO HAVE THE SAME CRY !!!
But they don't. Similar yes, not the same
What about thunderbolt and zapsos
Ah yes, my favorite Pokémon, Thunderbolt and Zapsos.
@@darkwolf2622 Though you gotta admit, tobodile and squatle are pretty good too

Okay so I know I'm a total geek for knowing this, but you mixed up Jolteon and Flareon's cries. Overall nice video though
Yeah he did
Damn I bet Gamefreak themselves wouldn't have noticed... you are a true gamer
I noticed it too!
Pro gamer move: notice everything just like @Legendary
How the fuck dude
Finally someone positive who doesn’t insult anything.
you still have to understand how limited the sounds were back then..
Yacdiss S. It's not really the sounds that were limited, it was the memory.
Yeah gotta give them credit that they still found a way to make all of their cries distinct even if they came from the same original sound. Like you can still differentiate dragonair to dragonite.
@@Masahane fr, I thought they were good for the time the games came out
Which is why charizard and ryhorn are indistinguishable. Let me guess, ThAT's a gLiTCh!
I like how the Cloyster cry is like you didnt hear Fearow so Cloyster said it louder.
Even though they may be similar, I can actually almost distinguish every one.
Tbf they've been ingrained in our brained for years since childhood

It’s amazing how I didn’t notice this till now. Growing up they all sound different
