The promises made to these people were most likely made by soldiers and politicians that aren't even in charge anymore. But regardless of how bad this looks, it needed to be done. Otherwise, at some point I truly believe Afghanistan would become a US state before Puerto Rico.

Interpreters are in even more danger as they will immediately be assumed to have worked for the American military and marked for execution as traitors, unless they can prove otherwise. As foreign press, even the Taliban will respect your right to report to some degree. As an Afghan-English interpreter, your life is automatically in danger.

@2a guy Say what you will about the Taliban but they're not stupid. Attacking the US would only bring another invasion and this is exactly what the Taliban don't want right now. And even in the future, how do you expect a country of 38 million people and no experience in invasions to invade a country 10 times the size with the military exceeding their own by a factor of 25, not to mention technologically decades ahead. Not to mention Afghanistan has no navy, so how exactly do you propose they transport all their troops from literally the other side of the world? Any overt attack on US soil would be doomed from day one, and any covert action would draw the ire of the western world all over again, leading to another invasion of Afghanistan. This is exactly what the Taliban do not want.
And in regards to you "right to bear arms", if you think a bunch of unorganized hillbillies armed with hunting rifles who only care about protecting their fields and cows will be able to stand up to an organized army of fanatical murderers, then you should stop watching Hollywood movies and face the reality. You'll only be supplying them with weapons and ammo as they storm through your home town.

And that's if Iran, Pakistan or any other of their neighbours allow their troops to pass. I don't know how much you know about geography, but Afghanistan is a landlocked country. Without an absolutely massive fleet of cargo planes they're not going anywhere. And even if they had such a fleet they'd need permission from any of their neighbours to fly in their airspace, and another permission to land and refuel somewhere because they sure as shit ain't getting to the US on one tank.
