ive been a vocaloid fan since i started secondary school and my fav has always been miku, i just thought she was this cute girl with catchy songs at first until i obviously fell into the vocaloid rabbit hole 😭 eventually miku songs really helped and soothed me through times my anxiety was at its peak and my breakdowns wouldn't stop. i remember looping songs like hello how are you and melt allll the time, and spending ages learning dances. a song that was really special to me is patchwork staccato, and my love for vocaloid and multiple different songs still grows each day now with me also being a pjsk fan😭
also, learning about different producers rlly is a curveball ! but the thing i love about vocaloids is how they allow people worldwide to express themselves freely through music, and how much that can help people. i really love what vocaloid stands for and i will gladly spend money on miku figures for the rest of my life

don't worry, i thought people were hired by sega to make music for the games, sheesh.. rolling girl and two-faced lovers were the first two songs in my playlist and i had no idea they were by the same person until wowaka's tragic passing.
top notch video, the amount of time you put into this clearly shows! :)

Everyone's experience is different. When I first heard Vocaloid, it was like an accident I couldn't look away from. The synthesized voice just landed right in the uncanny valley for me. But it was clear as day that beyond this shortcoming of it there was some real shit going on. Something I had to see and take in. It's like all that Vocaloid did was to reflect my own bullshit right back at me. It was gate keeping me from experiencing it to the fullest until I would stop being needlessly cynical and bitter about everything, and I believe that has helped me out.
    Good video by the way.

what i love about vocaloid is their song (in the golden times) telling about stories. For example like "servant of Evil", "daughter of evil", "Kokoro", "Shikiori no hane", "Mistletoe - Tensei no Yadorigi", "Magical Mirror", "Reboot", "The transient Apple Salesgirl", and many others.

Haha, i sure do love peoples reactions when finding out, that Kenshi Yonezu is Hachi xD
Yeah, many Vocaloid producers have wrote anime openings:
    Hachi for MHA
    ryo for Kakegurui
syudou for one isekai anime, that I don't remember the name of
Nekobolo for Case Study of Vanitas
    Ayase as YOASOBI for Beastars
Kairiki Bear for an upcoming anime Duel Masters Kings
samfree for one ending to Monogatari
    Eve for Jujutsu Kaisen
    Nayutalien for Happy Sugar Life
wowaka as Hitorie for Divine Gate
It's like even if you don't listen to Vocaloid, you're still subconciously interact with it xD

Rolling Girl was one of my first introductions to vocaloid as well, it genuinely means so much to me I’m glad I could see someone else like this :)
Also Vocaloids are Lame by PinocchioP is basically you story in a nutshell lol, also he’s just one of my favourite producers so a little suggestion I guess. Have a nice day :)

  • @ashin2189
    @ashin2189 2 года назад +1

Buckle in cuz I don't normally comment, but your story hit very close to home for me so this is a long one. I also fully understand if you won't read all this.
From having the friend that liked vocaloid just trying to give others that push, to rolling girl and world is mine being some of the first I really gave a chance and listened to, even to the project diva games (my first one was f 2nd on the vita and its still my favorite diva game along with f). It wasn't really mentioned in the video but youtaites were also a very big part of my discovery phase. When I even looked through your playlist there were so many songs I haven't listened to since high school, though it was a little odd seeing the diva videos not posted by googoo888. I love the mix of classics and more modern picks in the list, not to mention that there's more than the 6 cryptonloids featured, major props for the gyari track too. Also I think we all thought that the vocaloids were the ones making the songs at some point.
I know this was posted almost a year ago and you may already know some of these (I just found your channel like an hour ago with the lagtrain video) but I cant help but share some of my favorites, just incase others like them too. I'll try and keep brief about some of the producers featured in the diva games.
Firstly, if you haven't yet given the full unhappy refrain album a listen yet you should, just to list to wowaka's slightly less popular songs and for some updated arrangements. Toosenbo being one of favorites, disregarding the really popular ones that is. Another producer featured in diva that's worth a deeper dive is Pinocchio, having written possibly my favorite love song in I'm Glad You're Evil Too and fairly consistently making bangers for the last 10 or so years from Mushroom Mother and Rotten Heresy And Chocolate up to God-ish and Nee Nee Nee. Some other favorites being Kodomo no Shikumi, Matsuri da Hey Come On, and Ghosts Play to the Audience. Neru is very good too doing songs like Lost One's Weeping, World Domination How-To, Jailbreak, and Snobbism to name a few. The last featured in diva that I want to touch on is Nayutan because their first album is one of the few albums I own physically, they're just four solid albums.
I was a really angsty teen back in the day so some of these are very reflective of that, including the first producer I want to bring up, Kikuo. Kikuo's music is very unique instrumentally as he uses a large variety of instruments from song to song. I don't know what exactly the popular tracks are nowadays but back then it was Gomenne Gomenne. Some other tracks I'd recommend are You're a Worthless Child, Don't Look at Me In That Way, Tenshou Shou Tenshou, Hikari Yo, Hole Dwelling, and Kara Kara Kara no Kara just to name a few. Following the kinda edgy train we have Maretu, whose music is more typically electronic. I believe Coin Locker Baby is still up there for popularity, some other good ones are White Happy, Maegamist, and my personal favorite of his, Darling. One more on the edgier side I like is Abu-se Ken. He has a really rough tuning style that's just so much fun, but his lyrics are very much on the dark side. If you don't mind that then I'd happily recommend dogdog, Christ abd "Flowers, Mountains & Funerals". Since you mentioned GUMI I'd also recommend YM as that's mainly who he works with and being the producer behind Ten Faced, my favorite is UrusaaaAI. Going back to Miku, John is another fun producer with my favorite song being 返り討ち. Shun-ran, Higan, and Ageha are some others I like from him too.
That was getting kinda long so I'll rapid fire some nostalgic songs. Maid Factor, Straight Faced Science Girl, Giga's Electric Angel remix, Pomp and Circumstance, Paraphilia, Kurumi Ponchio, Chemical Emotion, Party Junkie, Soap Lagoon, Don't Just Take Your Clothes Off, I Wish They'd All Die, Don't Mylist Me, A Full Course for Candy Addicts, A Realistic Logical Ideologist, A Tale of Six Trillion Years and One Night, Dancing Samurai, Bacterial Contamination, I Don't Care Who Somebody Go Out With Me, and Game of Life just to name a few.
Surprise I had a few more producers to talk about, starting with Wada Takeaki. He uses some lesser known voicebanks like Otomachi Una (Kirai Kirai Jigahidai, Odore! VR Dance!, Yin Yang Kankei) and Yuzuki Yukari (Chururira Chururira da da da, Ch-ch-check One Two). Karasuyasabou has some fun ones with Jabberwocky Jabberwocka, Tensai Rock, and Meimei. If you're into more metal type music then I'd also suggest Utsu, and even if you don't I would still recommend Alien's I Love You. I would also suggest fully checking out some song series too, such as Jin's Kagerou Project (Kagerou Daze, Addition Memory, etc.), mothy's Chronicles of Evillious (Daughter/Servent of Evil), masa's Story of the Kitsune (Fox's Wedding), and nyanyannya's Lead Princess of the Color Stealing World (Doctor=Funk Beat). It's fun to see the stories people tell through this medium.
I've saved this one for last because it's the most special for me, but I also understand it's not for everyone, but my all time favorite vocaloid song is I'm Only Just Getting Started by Nashimoto Ui. While Nashimoto's songs hold a special place in my heart this is the one that has stuck with me the most ever since I first heard it all those years ago. If I started to recommend any more of his songs than that we'd be here even longer than we already have been, but I just adore his music. Everything about it first just right for me, from the huskier tuning, the darker subject matter, being more of a garage band style.
I'm not too sure why exactly I felt compelled to put all this out there, maybe its the nostalgia for when I made the jump, maybe its sleep deprivation. Either way, listening to you made me feel a certain sense of wonder I haven't felt towards vocaloid in nearly 10 years and I think that's really special. Apologies if this is a lot all at once, im very passionate about this and i hope if anyone read the whole thing they got something out of it. All in all this comment took like three hours to write but it was lot of fun to go back down memory lane, so if nothing else this comment was for me.

Thank you so much for taking so much time to write all this out! I enjoyed reading all of it. I'm really glad I was able to spark something in you with this video. I really appreciate all your reccomendations, and you actually brought up some of my favorites, especially Jin. Additional Memory being my favorite song is like my only personality trait lol. It's been a fun year for me diving even deeper into vocaloid, and I look forward to checking out some of the songs you mentioned. Thank again for taking so much time to write all that out, it means so much to me.

@@MeltySolid I'm glad you were able to get something out of my sleep deprived ramblings. I don't get very many chances to talk about music so it was a lot of fun. There were so many more songs, producers, and even albums I wanted to talk about but it was getting to the point of if I didn't stop myself then I would've never actually finished the comment. I hope you like some of the stuff I suggested :)

This was an amazing video. I love seeing the perspective of newer fans. I’ve been into Vocaloid since 2011 it’s crazy to think about now. And frankly I never “grew out” of it. This music scene means a lot to me. I’ve found producers and songs that have changed my life.
You seem like a cool guy I feel the same passion I have for the scene In this video.
I’ll shout out some songs that have made a huge impact on me.
Siinamota’s entire discography (rest in piece king)
Mi8k’s Love and Destroy and Empty shell (monuke no karada)
    Corruption by Paseri Onuma
    Maretu in general
    Kikuo in general
    Unknown mother goose Wowaka
    Hiiragi Magnetite
Hated by life itself Kanzaki Iori
    Sasanomaly (Vocaloid and non Vocaloid)
And more recently Abuse/Abuseken my faves from them are Christ and I want to be cremated.
There’s a lot more like so much more. It’s impossible for me to list them all but all these songs and producers mean the world to me

I'm somewhat in the same boat as you with Vocaloid and Anime. I hated both of them for most of my life. I never really made fun of people for liking it but I just avoided it like the plague. Then like a year and a half ago, I finally gave them both a chance only because my friends had shown me a few clips many years before I finally tried it. That eventually sparked a little interest and I gave it a shot. Now like half of my music is vocaloid or from Japan. Lol.
Also, just wanted to say nice work on your videos. I just started watching yesterday and really enjoyed them. Keep it up!
Edit: (I'm also in the same boat about not realizing that Miku wasn't an artist. Lol)

Just saw this video after the video about Unmei. Damn it’s crazy how many people have similar stories about how they discovered Vocaloid.
It was 11 years ago, some of my friends told me about it, but at that time I was VERY lazy when it came to discovering new things. Every time someone would try to make me discover stuff, it instantly made me NOT want to discover it. And it was the case with mangas, movies, music, everything.
Then a concert was in my recommendations. It was the 2011 concert at Sapporo, it believe we’ve all seen it. And I was so intrigued, so I searched and the first song I listened to was Rolling Girl, and now every time I hear it I get tear eyed, because it hurts so bad that Wowaka, the man who made the vocaloid songs that meant the most to me, passed away.
The second song I discovered was Ura Omote Lovers, so another one of his songs. And just every one of his songs, from the music to the lyrics, they just touch something so deep in my soul, I don’t know how to describe it.
I really loved your story, I would have loved to be your friend and see that transformation ! I hope you will get a lot lore followers in the future, you put so much work in your videos and it shows.

Music is indeed universal. I had simular things occur to me but with rythm game music (how do you even define that, EDM?, J-pop?) i used to completely give 0 fucks about music, i couldn't be helped but be captivated by a friend of mine playing a rythm game. Played on his phone, downloaded the game myself and the rest is history. It's insane how effective word of mouth actualy is.
