In this video, I review and demonstrate the CNC Foam Cut controller from Hobbild.
Many thanks to Stefano from DevCad for covering the costs and Ferdinando from Hobbild for this impressive CNC foam cutter controller.
    Disclaimer
Guy's this is my honest review and I'm not being paid for this. I did receive the controller free of charge and shipping costs. As per RUclips policies, this is classed as a paid promotion.
I’ve been CNC foam cutting for many years now so with that experience I can tell you what I really think of it.
Detailed review with a demonstration of the controller running my CNC foam cutter machine to produce a wing section with spar holes, aileron and lightning holes. G-code was generated with DevWing Foam2 and DevCNC Foam was used to control my foam cutter.

I have had this machine at home for less than a week and I am very satisfied with its performance and ease of use. And perhaps the best of all has been the personalized attention of its creator Ferdinando.

5:35 Nah, it's not just you. Building is a huge part of the fun for lots of people, including me. Although so far, Balsa is still my preferred way. Ribs are cool ( :

Really like this, the prices aren't overly high tbh.
Good job you did a video as their site isn't the best imo (perhaps as I'm learning?)

5 axis! This is interesting. Since it can do a chess piece it can do parts for a fuselage and that opens some new interesting things for us who love to build model airplane. Like it!

Hi Johan! I've already done some tests regarding fuselage parts using the fifth rotary axis. I'll try to post a video as soon as possible!

Hi Keith, Thank you so much for all your explanation and videos. I m just building your machine, mostly finished and i just discover you have build a new Bow for the wire. Do you more fotos of it somewhere ? Great Job anyhow, happy building and flying !!

@@rckeith Thank you very much - you male lot of explanations, mote than i was expected - Perfect now it s clearer. I finishe d mine today, expect the 2 T8 leading screw missing. I finally adopt for lot of 3D print, i had laready all your wood pieces ready for my cnc, as i found some 3D files from Patrick Bartl - but i add to correct (or adapt) some stuff and create some new one. For the choice of the SW i look at you r video explanation, also a great help to find the right SW . i wll send you later on results.

Looks like a good controller for someone that just wants a plug and play setup. I've been enjoying my setup built from your plans. I see your using the devfoam to send your cut files here. Are you exclusively using this now or still using the grill hotwire mega 5x? I might have to try devfoam as I can't get the mega 5x to connect the port on 24v.

Hi, Still using Mega 5x and DevCNC Foam as well. Not doing much foam cutting at the moment as other projects are taking my time.

Excellent video. Thank you. How does well does the controller work with EPP foam? Any differences?

    • @rckeith
      @rckeith  Год назад

Thanks, I'm sure it will be fine it's just a matter of getting the right voltage to the wire to suit the foam. Unfortunately, I have never cut EPP because it's quite difficult to get in the UK in any suitable sizes. I mainly use EPS and XPS foam.

Very nice! I'm in the process of designing three larger machines using printer extrusions and belt drives instead of screws....basically a 1 1/2 meter cube. I'm leaning towards running NEMA 24 motors for several reasons, but can't seem to find any more info on the Hobbild site. Can the DB-15 connectors handle the larger motors? We do have a CNC mill with a Gecko controller running NEMA 24's through a DB-9, but it's hard on the connectors. Already running DevFoamPro2 and love it. Any more info available from Hobbild? Guess I'll have to try and contact directly? Thanks.
