Keith, thanks so much for contributing so much to this hobby! I’m looking to update my HobbyCNC/GMFC system and I’m not sure what electronics to use. I’d like to use thin (.010”) wire at 32” length so I need a bit of power for the hot wire. Do think the MKS board with a 36 V power supply running DevCNCFoam would do the trick best, or should I just use an Arduino 2650 on 12 volts plus a 36 V lab supply and manually switch it on and off?

Hi Ward The MKS board is a good choice but 24 Volts is the maximum input. It works well on that. An Arduino with a RAMPS board works on 12 Volts and would struggle a little on 32". The only thing to bear in mind is that officially DevCad does not support DevCNC Foam running on the MKS board although I've had it working. The GRBL HotWire Mega 5X on the website works well on both and is free but you need the load the firmware. Which is all documented on the website and in videos. Hope that helps

@@rckeith Thanks Keith. Although the MKS isn’t officially supported I like the idea of an easy firmware download from DevCNC foam plus the 24 volts. So if the drop-down menu inside, the DevCNC foam doesn’t have the MKS board listed, I’m wondering which firmware I would load off the Dev site?

So basically at a minimum, you would use devfoamwing 2 + devfoamfus 2 + devcncfoam. Would that be correct to compile as a basic start point?

So with those 3 licences you are sitting at 355 Euro ( $558 AUD). Not cheap by any means. And then if for any reason you lose your USB by mistake (it can happen easy), then licences are gone.

@@CiaranWhelan Stefano at DevCad is very good at replacing license. I use to store them on the computer but after a hard drive failure he sent me new ones. I use the USB for convince so I can use it on any of my computers.

Hi, I would wait before buying DevFus Foam unless you really want to do fuselages. Flying wings are good first project and that's how I started with just DevWing Foam and Mach3 on an old parallel port computer.

Existe algún material biodegradable que yo pueda cortar con la ayuda de este software y una cncfoam? Estoy muy interesado. Por favor iluminenme

    hi Keith
I got MKS gen 1.4 v1 board after contact with you mine didn't work got in contact with devcad, told them my problem -- this is their reply .
There are different releases of that board, some are compatible at pin level, some not.
That's why I didn't insert it in my supported controller list
    Stefano
    maybe warn others

      Hi Malcolm
Thanks had a few guys ask me whether it works and none had any success. It probably needs a custom firmware. The MKS Gen L V1.0 and 2.1 work just fine and its my preferred choice for 8 bit controllers.

I made my hot wire with a lv 1.0 works perfect, you just need te change some things in software that Keith created.

    • @malcolmdavies8349

@@daanvandenbossche9197 the firmware is uploaded by devcam so you can not change anything --- you have no access --- until they've read your board --- if if does not correspond with their firmware they do not upload.
it works fine with Keith's software just not devfoam etc.
