- King of the Zombies is a 1941 American zombie comedy film directed by Jean Yarbrough and stars Dick Purcell, Joan Woodbury, and Mantan Moreland. The film was produced by Monogram Pictures, and was typical of its B films produced by the Pine-Thomas team. Along with flying scenes, the use of zany characters and slapstick efforts were juxtaposed with a spy and zombie story. - Wikipedia

Great Actor, thanks for sharing this wonderful Video!
As a white guy who loves old movies i'm going to say two things 1)Mantan Moreland made this movie 100% allll the way the Gem it is,and 2) He was from my home state and was born in Monroe, Louisiana.Proud to call him a fellow Louisianian
⚜️🟢🟡🟣🟢🟣🟢🟡🟣🟢⚜️
What does being white have to do with anything, csnt you just be a guy who loves movies 🤔
@@aprilvereen3169 He can say what he wants. Doesn't need/want your approval. Get a life.
Good to know!! 💜💛💚💛💜
@@aprilvereen3169I can tell you except why he loves him so much. Because of buck dancing. Keeping him entertained.
this is the best quality version on youtube (there are a few) this one wins.
48:17--move over boys, I'm one of the gang now! If Mantan ever did a scene in a movie that he didn't steal, I've never seen it. It is a shame the way things were and are, so that his talent has not been showcased the way it deserves.
His "crew"...
Move over, boys. I'm one of the gang. 😂😂
Most folks can’t see how cutting edge Mantan Moreland was by his subtle subversion of his racial caste in these movies…
I could easily see that he was really being uppity for the times! I am surprised the Ku Klux Klan didn't go after him!!!
At 9:34, no brandy for the "valet"?
Three thumbs up for this one.
Loved this movie!!!
Mantan IS the man! 👍💛
I-am-a-zombie..I-am-dead....I IS !???
Good Zombie Movie. Funny.
Of course they don’t give Moreland a drink
Screenwriters reminding us of the "system". Hayes code came along but wasn't just about sex. It was about shutting down socialist writers. Watch a bunch of Pre-Code films. They are very modern and hip.
Played him out with the brandy
Mantan still had his hat on his head!?!?!??
shame they had to talk that way mantan brill
Manton Moreland was a fantastic comic actor, who both rose above and subverted the material he was given. He often had the valet/butler/scared assistant roles that were routinely dished out to Black actors, but he has a knowing quality to his acting, and furthermore he's bloody good. He's one of those actors younfind yourself concentrating on when he's in a group of people.
yup, in fact he was usually billed 3rd or 4th but would end up stealing the scenes... He quickly became the main draw in a lot of movies.
I love his acting, if I see his name I watch the movie
Moreland is bad actor. He plays " à i'ancienne " always looking the camera.
He had more natural talent in his little finger than his costars did in their entire resume. Personality, timing, he had everything. Wish he'd been born later.
@@brunorobin2429 That was his job. You really think a professional would ignore his director and blocking? 😁
Montana Moreland is/was a comic genius that was ahead of his time with his own personal style of comedy
🥰👍🥰
The greatest thing about this movie is Mantan, he was hallarious and I enjoy every film he was in..
Maybe this was mentioned, but I think it's worth repeating. Moe and Larry wanted Mantan to take Shemps place and the studio suits said no. Moe talked about how he and Larry were excited about working with him and to adapt his many excellent bits for the Stooges.
The studio said no to Mantan Moreland, but said yes to Joe Besser. Somebody make some sense out of that for me. Mantan would have fit right in with the Stooges comedy. Joe Besser’s fitting in was awkward at best. He was a capable comedian, but his comedy didn’t fit the Stooges at all.
@@albertwells8503 I believe Moe talked about how he and Larry wanted to do Mantan's interupted conversation routines and Moe said Mantan was great at playing scared. It would have been great.
*This is one of the best "scare comedies" ever made. Mantan is at is best here!* 👍👍👍
Thank you for posting such great movies! We LOVE Mantan Moreland!
Anything with Mantan Moreland i is compulsory viewing for me. March, 2023.
Billed third, but Mr.Moreland is the real star...''move over boys,I'm one of the gang''...
Just like Joe Pesci in Goodfellas. Third billing, but he's the real star of that movie.
Yes in every movie that he made you I couldn't wait until he came on scene. Because you know he was going to be a scene STEALER! You should watch in the Charli Chan movies.
1,000 Tru fact
@@deliciaford4343 every Sunday Charlie Chan and Sherlock Holmes
Mr.Moreland carried that movie practically sing-handed.
I haven’t seen this movie for over 60 years. Thank you for collecting and sharing these great old movies.
"Does I have to? Can I draw you a map or something?" Phenom movie!
Mantan gets the last word in this one! Good movie , thank you for posting.
As I have said before these old black-and-white films are great good entertainment and a great laugh I always enjoy them
This man's sick, get some brandy!!! These movies are so bad it's awesome. There are so many great one liners in this movie.
Brandy was always the answer
I first started watching Mr. Morland in the Charlie Chan shows. He will always be Birmingham Brown to me.
❤ 👍🏻👍🏻 🇺🇲
Right
Mantan is one of the funniest actors EVER
This is the hardest kind of movie to pull off. What usually happens is the comedy totally undermines the chills and the suspense. Here it all comes together to make a great movie that really holds up. If you like Abbott & Costello, you're gonna ♥️ this movie.
I hate Abbott and Costello
So do I.
🦆I was also born in 57. You could go to the movies ( Triple Feature ) for 50 Cents, a large Popcorn was 5 Cents, The Only size, and a bag of candy was another 5 Cents. Gasoline was under 50 cents a gallon. Anyone could rent a house without presenting a Credit Card for a background check. America was manufacturing high quality products that did not break for very reasonable prices. In 1967 the Base cost of a NEW Corvette Convertible $4,084.00
I was born in 57 also, but our local theater was twenty-five cents for one feature, lol. 👍🏻
I was born in 1953 up in Canada, and life up here was quite similar to your America of the time! We Canadians used to buy all your fantastic cars from Detroit, and we loved all your movies! A lot of us wished we could move to the U.S.! Even with all your hurricanes and tornadoes and earthquakes, it would be better to live there than in this refrigerator called Canada! Right now, the cold is starting, and it won't be warm again till July of next year again!🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶
One of my favorite Mantan Moreland movies. Also the Charlie Can movies from the 1930s & 1940s.A very good Comic Actor and Character Actor.
our modern zombies have to take note of the old well behaved zombies
Yep, Hollywood went completely off the rails a years ago, anything to please the Chinese communist leadership.
"What does that sound like to you?"
"I dunno, but it ain't Gene Krupa." xD

"Dead folks what's to lazy to lay down."
HILARIOUS
😂😂😂
That is excellent
ITS A SHAME ACTOR DICK PURCELL DIED SO YOUNG HE WAS GOOD IN THIS FILM.
Keep the movies coming much luv
Mantan Moreland was very funny in this movie.
"Uh oh, I knowed I wadn't cut out to be no blackbird."
--Mantan's character, flying in an airplane that's lost.
Later on. "I thought I was an off color for a ghost.".
Can that even be said today?
Love watching the old shows I grow up watching.
I wonder why no one has asked the doctor what kind of doctor he is.
Mantan Moreland is a treasure!
Thoroughly enjoyed this nostalgia.
I saw this as a kid in 1953., Scary movie.Best zombies ever.
They definitely weren't acting LOL
I have never been scared of zombies! I'm only scared of live people!!!😮

Vital historical facts 🤔👍🏻
These films are a treasure of vanishing Vaudeville wit and the stereo-types of the day.
Marble orchard never heard that one 😅
Joseph Perkins you are so right. I enjoy all these movies he play in. We are from Dillon South Carolina and we always grew up with our white counterparts. Never a ploblem, then one day all that changed. We were all sad and dismayed by the change. But we kept loving each other. Now we know where the ploblem steamed from.
Joe! Sorry to hear about that! There are always nasty people trying to stir up trouble between the races! Quite often they are politicians!!! (White guy from Canada)😢
Marble orchard….. I can't; my foot took to root.
I had never heard the term marble orchard before either, I will be using that one. LOL
Wasn't that ritual the same ritual they performed in The Skeleton Key
Always loved Mantan Moreland (Birmingham in Charlie Chan movies)...thank you for posting this video.
Birmingham Brown 👍🏻😉
Liked how old movie intros seemed so serious then. Serious business.
A true hero for his time sometimes I'm ashamed sometimes I've enjoyed and loved it
Why ashamed?
@@aprilvereen3169
He won’t answer, he’s too ashamed! 😂
Stereotypical black characterization…not allowed today.
All the acting was great john archer dick Purcell mantan Moreland Henry Victor who was great as the bad guy.

I saw this as a kid im 50 now i just loved this actor fantastic actir
Loving my black and white movies
A very scary scary movie😮😲 one of the best yet
It's so sad to see people can't enjoy a movie just for the escape/fun of watching a movie without turning everything into being about racism.
exactly, limited minds.
This movie has layers of black & white 😏
BLESSED DAY STAY SAFE
I love this film one of the best
Hah dude said quiet you tryna wake up the dead .😄 lmbo how I be feeling , better to feel your hb than not.
Mantan Moreland performed a very stereotypical role with his own special touch And glad to see his name here in top billing so richly deserved enjoyed this gem with it's comic moments 😊😊😮😮
"Might set a bad example for the other servants."
- Dr. Dickhead
How so? Mantan Moreland was able to sleep in the room, he defied the racial tropes (in most of his movies).
Is Dr Dickhead really a character name 🤔 seriously im curious
@@aprilvereen3169 if it isn’t? It should be.

Mantan shines in this one. SO funny
I love this movie fugitives from the undertaker
Black & white in more than one way 😏
I clicked dislike by accident. I enjoyed this movie
Just click the like and it reverses, your choice is not irreversible.
This film is very racist, but very funny...! Just because he is black they assume he is a servant...! It is 80yrs old but even so...!
a bright spot in my illness recovery - bored I came across this film and loved it from start to finish.
I hope you feel better❤
Wow I have never hard of this gy but he is great comedian thnks for the post from the horn of Africa
love these old movies especially with Mantan Moreland! But only a certified Union zombie can withstand multiple bullet wounds from point blank range… 🤔

Some of Mantan's Zombie "crew" really nailed their look. Oscar worthy zombies.

Enjoyable movie.
I've been watching Mantan Moreland since his Topper days.
Sorry, Charlie Chan movies. But I do think he was at least one Topper.
I really enjoyed this movie very funny!! 😊😅😂
So this is far before George Romero's in 68, yet he is know as the creator of Zombies 🤔🤔
noooo, not at all. They refer to George as the father of "modern zombies" (which is absolutely accurate) Besides, he himself always credited the old 30's classics as his favorite type of zombies.
