Ma'am,i think at first we should rule out any visceromegaly in the abdomen by palpation where percussion is avoided...
And Percussion should start from epigastrium from above downward to get the maximum point of tympanicity along midline then to percuss laterally as you said.
If I'm not wrong. Thank you ma'am.
