I’m sad to hear that Parachutes us closing. We had one at my home park SFSTL when I was kid.
I’m planning to finally get to SFGA this year and thought it would be fun to experience it again and have my son experience it.😢

Brutal announcement. This type of attraction was the basis for a modern drop tower, but could be ridden by the whole family. It’s a curious decision to remove a family attraction like this when Six Flags says they are wanting to appeal to families.

I’m definitely sad to see this classic flat ride go and I’m very glad I was able to ride this ride when I visited Six Flags Great Adventure. The modern day parachute towers in Hong Kong Disneyland and Walt Disney Studios Paris that I’ve ridden just don’t compare to Great Adventure’s parachute tower.

It's hard for me to understand why they justify removing the ride as 'it reached the end of service', most of the parts for that ride look like they could be easily replaced, but I don't work in the amusement industry so I don't know for certain. It's a dang shame they're getting rid of it though.

It’s the only ride of its type left in the states, with its manufacturer Intamin not producing parts for it anymore, making parts very difficult to come by (from my understanding)

I think replacing it with a more modern observation tower would be a great idea. The ride was basically an observation tower so replacing it with a more modern equivalent would not only keep parts of its original purpose, and keep the iconic tower.

When I went to SFGA back on Oct. 9, I saw Parachute’s Tower in person and it’s impressive of height. I didn’t expect to see this iconic ride being closed down. Even though I didn’t ride it, I’ll miss it because it was beautiful.

When I went to the ride last season, it was covered with lantern flies everywhere. The lantern flies may have to do with it as it may have infestation problems. I was there today and as of May 7, 2023 the ride is still standing, yet not operational.

This is another contradiction in terms when we are told that Six Flags is targeting families, willing to pay a premium price for a premium park experience to the company's parks. What, exactly, at Great Adventure is left that truly targets a family demographic. They've stripped the park of probably 90% of the shows, and whenever something new is added, it's either directed at small children or teenagers and very young adults. This once beautiful park with its emerald green trees providing a visual escape from the outside world, really has become a land of concrete and steel! If you ask me, this park is probably headed in the direction of California's Great America, meaning the company is likely to sell much of the land the park sits on with Six Flags paying an annual lease fee to operate the park on the owner's land. Truly sad. Warner LeRoy as well as the Six Flags executives that came to the park when it was acquired, are certainly rolling in their graves.

I’m guessing it will be SBNO until they figure what can be done with it (modern update, observation deck, etc.). As far as actual removal, the structure itself should come done pretty quickly (piece by piece by crane). The footings/foundation on the other hand will probably remain until they actually “redevelop” the boardwalk.
I wonder if the footings/foundation are still intact at SF St Louis 🤔

A unique ride and Six Flags wants to close it. The new CEO is doing a great. 😂 A ride that no one else has in the U.S. and you want to close it. The CEO want to bring families back to chain, by closing family friendly rides, you can not make this up.

this is a huge stretch, but if they removed GL they would have a big plot of land to use for a new coaster, and using some of the backstage area and possibly the land where the go-carts and old 4D showbuilding are, you have a massive plot of land that could fit anything. Doubt itll happen, but its a thought

HOWEVER...yes my comment was about 2024 bc this content creator and several others have been on the hype train that huge things (like a giga in 2024 at great adventure) are coming. All I was getting at is with all of these ride removals chain wide for 2023 (there's ALOT of them)...plus the way SF is trending...it might be smart to start lowering expectations for the 2024 season so nobody is dissapointed if there is no giga lol.
