It really doesn't have to do with the size of the coaster, but with the hydro launch followed by a top hat, where the speed is decreased to a minimal level.
Coolbean94vevo - but it can be extremely dangerous, and the fact that it has happened on this coaster with passengers aboard is kind of scary (not this video) luckily nobody got hurt when that did happen though.

My sister and I roadtripped down to Jersey for the sole purpose of the opening weekend for this ride, and they had shut it down....because of this. Still an amazing six flags with many other great rides that made the trip worth it. Great adventure truly puts the Massachussettes Six Flags to shame.
When i went to Cedar Pount last year, thy hav a similar ride ther called Top Thrill Dragster. While i was there, i saw one of the trains have a rollback. It was like midday there too XD
@@TheWeekndGaming They're the same model of coaster, made by the same company. Kingda Ka isn't a bad copy of Top Thrill Dragster any more than a 2005 Toyota Corolla is a bad copy of a 2003 Toyota Corolla.
At 0:09 you see the plates that are moving down, those are the plates used for eddy current braking. You also see those plates at the end of the ride as it makes the turn to head into the station.
The fins let it very slowly return to launch position. People are then given the option to leave if they didn't like the ride based on the 'first launch'. After the people that have chosen to leave have left, the ride is checked to see if any major malfunctions have occurred. If not, the ride is reset and relaunches.
Awesome video, it's pretty cool to watch test rollbacks even though you know that they're tests. What show was that on? I'm a big coaster junkie and I'd love to see it!
KK recieved OTSR's (Over-The-Shoulder Restraints) because Intamin began making them standard on Rocket coasters, and yes, it has little to do with the airtime. Since Stormrunner in 2004, all Intamin Rockets have had OTSR's. I'm not completely sure why, though....
@screacher244 It is propelled by the same system that s used to launch jets on air craft carriers and it rollbacks because it doesn't get to full speed before the car gets launched.
I first went on kingda ka in April of this year 2024 and I didn’t twice and I didn’t get the roll back thank god. I rode it again this month and I was lucky again

@Cloverx12x they are almost the same. besides, cedar point has lap bars, kingda ka has those crappy restraints... the only reason why I like kingda ka better is because it dosent end after you are back down...
don’t you guys know that rollbacks are planned??? launch coasters like top thrill dragster and kingda ka all have brakes at the launch station, to add some thrill to the riders and sometimes may due to wind, weight of the train and launch speed
You don't even realize how safe roller coasters are. By statistics, they are safer than lawn chairs. Safer than curling irons. Safer than cars. Safer than WALKING for god's sake.
@efun milum it's been so long that I don't even know what I was referencing to. I think there was some kind of trend and inside joke being passed along in the comments.
It’s actually the exact opposite rollbacks happen when the ride is too light so it doesn’t carry its momentum up the hill. That’s why they typically use water dummies in the morning to test rides!
Well. Actually Sometimes they just look a other amusment parks. And Kings Island,And Cedar Point are the only ones like work the same company. So there not made from the same company..
I literally love rollbacks. You usually get a free second ride, plus it’s so fun
not usually, all the time
Nah you always get a second ride
You love rollbacks, but you clearly never had one cause if you did you would know you always get to go again.

well if i ride this rollercoaster i hope it happens, it will happen 100% safe and it adds up a extra trill and a double launch nice

you're getting manufacturer and park mixed up, the parks themselves don't build the rides, they hire manufacturers (ex. Intimin, B&M, RMC, etc)
