I know everyone is like "Tac Captain or go home..." Me on my Science Captain (especially on ground): "Oh, wow, I've never seen 20 mobs with melting faces before. Does it hurt?" Thanks for the vid!!! If it weren't for you, Auggie, CasualSAB, and MCStu, RUclips would only be for Yellowstone vids and news. You guys rock!
what do you mean by 'tech damage'? other than 'less damage'. Also you're not quite right. Tactical: Out perform both other careers with all damage Engineer: tiny buff to energy damage and #some heals Science: tiny buff to exotic damage and #some buffs
For some reasons, I find science for ground build insanely effective. Cold Fusion Flash, Exothermic Induction Field, Neutronic Radiation from the Delta Reputation and Mudd's Time Device means you can melt everything around you. And couple that with Adapt (If you have the Elite Captain), you can keep 100% uptime for those abilities.
These are the kind of guides that will help new players access the game. Beautifully edited, to the point, newbie digestible and engaging. I could quite literally hug you!!! I know how long producing content like this takes to create, so please know how much you are appreciated. And if you enjoy it, please please keep it up!!!! = )
Right now my main in STO is a Engineer Klingon Recruit. My favorite captain ability for engineering is Miraculous Repairs. Then I use the trait that allows it to recharge instantly if I take enough damage.
So realistically, it doesn’t matter what you choose, it’s more based on BOFS, skill tree and secondary spec. I enjoy playing engineer but I am really new and only just dinged 65. Great fun game though. Love your guides and thank you!
My 1st main was an Trill Engineer, but as I learned more about the game I moved to a Joined Trill Tactical. Though I still find great use and fun with my old engineer.
Not sure why you'd think Cover Shield isn't useful. If anything, it's a staple for fast paced shootouts. If you turn a corner to see a bunch of people locking onto you, Cover Shield provides vital setup time for all your gadgets. It also acts as an obstacle when in a confined hallway, buying time to escape. I love when people blast it down only to walk on landmines while they give chase. On top of that, it gives medics time to get people on their feet. This thing is invaluable.
@Stu1701 That's the point. Like I said before, it blocks incoming fire while I set up turrets, drones, landmines, and whatever other gadgets I have. It gives cover to medics while they revive teammates and even blocks hallways from pursuers. Assuming it's not shattered after you set up, getting around it is as simple as side stepping and opening fire like you would any wall. You can even activate shield regeneration and use it as cover again if need be. How is that just getting in the way? Saying that it just gets in the way is completely lacking any tactical thinking or creativity.
@stu1701. Thanks for this remarkably clear and speedy walk through the 3 careers. By the way I love that you main an engineer and for revealing the repulse. Not repulsive at all!
I mentioned this on your fleet member Augie's channel... what makes a "Starship good". Obviously it would be an involving topic because there would be a lot to go over from the type of the build, Mastery Package, Bridge officer seating etc. I think it would be a good topic to cover because there's not much on it other than individual ship reviews & a lot of people don't know what to look for, explaining this is what you want in a torpedo build, this is what you want in an energy build & sci etc... The other day I had a conversation with a fleet member over Discord explaining to him why the Parliament was bad after he watched auggie's video on it, now granted he was a new player but he is about to just throw money out the window mainly because of his inexperience. So personally I think a guide on what to look for in a Starship / what makes a ship good would be good to have out there. It might also help Cryptic understand why it's bad for them to make bad Starship with a premium price tag, but that might be wishful thinking I don't know
I actually like this idea. Going over what kind of ships fit what builds best, what makes certain ones better than others, what special features certain ships have and what makes them good or not, the go over the various sub-types of the three basic classes (cruisers, escorts, and science ships), stuff like that.
Awesome dude. Maybe over all ground guide. Watched some one in Operation Wolf this morning running around trying to kill everything instead of remembering that we are a team. Maybe explain to people what and where type of stuff?
This one might be a bit difficult because each TFO is so different, so I don't think I could do a general guide to every ground TFO that's more than "follow the objective list". I've thought about doing walkthrough videos for a few TFOs because there are a few I've seen people mess up more than few times, but there are a lot of TFOs so I don't think I could do ever single one; not any time soon at least.
I’m trying to figure out the best engineering ships I want to create a engineering toon using a engineering majority slots which on engineering slots do not use universal slots I wanta change it up boring just using universal usely use tactical toons and unfortunately even on that it’s all universal so I need to build even tactical with no universal on tactical slots same with science I think for now gonna use trailblazer for science tho I wanta find one for kdf not into dominion and romulan tho I do have
Hello Mad Hatter! Do you know what is in orbit of Narendra 3? Not the Blue Waffle! It is a Intrepid Class Science vessel for your Admiralty. Go to Narendra 3, hail U.S.S. Sally Ride, ask for assistance. Boom, free epic science vessel for you Admiralty with a Science 78.
Yep, the Kelvin timeline costumes are Lobi, though you can buy them from the exchange as well. Though they've released Lobi costumes to C-store bundles before, maybe one day those will too.
HI I enjoy your videos just one thought could you talk a little slower Im old and its hard to follow you. all these new famgle stuff hard to keep up with for old farts like me lol thanks.
Sorry, that kinda just how I talk sometimes. I'll try to slow to slow it down a bit next time, but I can't make any promises. Honestly, it's kinda miraculous when I can get a statement out without stumbling over my own words, which is why I record and edit the way I do. Maybe I'll try to space out the voice over a bit better so it's sounds less clustered together.
For what its worth there is a setting to play videos on different speeds. You may benefit from setting it to 0.75x speed for certain videos. Personally when im skimming videos for information for school or something i set the speed to 1.25 or 1.5 even cuz some people talk just way to slow for me haha. To each their own
I assume you meant terok nor, not terra nova. And no, I wouldn't use them there either because those engineers need to move between two locations, so cover shield is just going to mess with that.

In theory:
Tactical: damage
Engineer: tank
Science: healer
In practice:
Tactical: weapon damage
Engineer: tech damage
Science: space magic damage
what do you mean by 'tech damage'? other than 'less damage'. Also you're not quite right.
Tactical: Out perform both other careers with all damage

you had me at orbital strike, career chosen

Thanks for this breakdown, gonna play again after a long break!
After spending years away from STO your videos have been a godsend. Thank you.
🖖🗽
My main since Delta Rising has been a Joined Trill Engineer. It’s been so good I almost doze off when in prolonged battles.

cover shield does nothing but get in the way

that was very helpful seeing which are the actual differences in a nutshell, well done good sir !
Also later BOFF manuals can be career specific. Good to have one of each, even if it's an alt that collects pixel dust
The ability to craft certain boff manuals is career specific. You can still use them regardless of your character's career.

I should also mention not the traits not the gear the "ship" the "platform" / paper doll is what you'd covering

Exactly! And it's not really been done before the closest thing is Counteryolo's videos.

Ive been looking for this!
The only ground combat I can stomach is engineer. Just lay out a bunch of turrets and let them do the work.
Thank you for this Video
PS my new main is a rom i looking to better my Energy DPS what would you advice for alliance

Hi stu nice video but your attire is very simular to Jim stirling

I noticed that engineer on the ground has a Kelvin style rank bands where did you get that tunic style 🤔
I looked up of course it's would be in the lobi store lolololol 🤔
Also nice video going to make a tactical officer for once
Yep, the Kelvin timeline costumes are Lobi, though you can buy them from the exchange as well. Though they've released Lobi costumes to C-store bundles before, maybe one day those will too.
Have you done world of warships that game is very easy to use the controls this game is broken

5:35, assault on terra nova, to keep the engineers alive
I assume you meant terok nor, not terra nova. And no, I wouldn't use them there either because those engineers need to move between two locations, so cover shield is just going to mess with that.
