- Today we are looking at the Worksharp pivot pro sharpener. When I saw this at Blade Show West 2019 I knew that I had to get my hands on it and try it out for the channel, it's incredibly affordable and has is great at utilizing all parts of the tool! I will be keeping mine at the cabin.

This thing is perfect for the shop! You can easily sharpen your Beater blades but can also do a lot more!

@@innerbarkoutdoors I just thought, The "Axe" sharpener would also work great for Spades wich you want at least a bit sharp,or something like the cold steel Special forces shovel!
Hard Pass, $10 worth of taco's is a better investment.
Taco's are a solid choice.

I designed the TFK, and yes I still use it. In fact I still use the exact same one that I took to Colombia and a number of hunting and fishing trips (#003).

These are great for getting a raised edge back but as far as finishing a blade id my favorite coffee mugs base and rim. Why pay all the big bucks for a ceramic sharpeners when you have a whole cupboard full of them. LOL. This piece is a great one to have around. Someone put a lot of thought into it's design.
I've also seen guys use their side window of their car at the edge. Have you ever tried it?
@@innerbarkoutdoors Neat but not yet though I will keep that in mind. I do have picked up rocks in a pinch to make something in a pinch work.Folks are always amazed when I take an oddball medium and sharpen their prised chef's knife that has never been treated very well. In my experience a dull knife is far more likely to cut someone than one with a razor like edge.
It’s a lot of extra stuff for a good price your paying about the same for a block with just the two standard sharping points and there not adjustable

Probably not a bad choice for a beginner or someone who just doesn't care enough. The preset angles are usually way obtuse to facilitate a quick result. I mean, what's the angle on that axe "sharpener"? Looks like it would dull a cold chisel...
As a portable solution, I prefer a two-sided pocket stone I've had for years now - coarse SiC on one side and medium/fine AlO on the other. Has served me well when I needed to touch up an edge, even with severe dulling (eg. machete hit into a bonedry hardwood branch). It cost about the same as this system, but is much more compact at 8x2.5x1.5cm.

@@innerbarkoutdoors It isn't much, but it works. I think Norton has a very similar stone in their lineup - a small combination stone with their Crystolon on one side and their India on the other. I don't use it with oil though - clear spit will do the trick.
Thanks for the video. In these type of sharpeners you will see a lot of metal shavings that fall down while sharpening. You also see a uneven blade with microscopic bites out of the blade. Question is: Did you notice either metal scrapings or the microscopic bites out of the blades you sharpened??
I saw some micro shavings with the pruners, I reckon that it's softer metal than the knives. Hard to say with the pocket knives I sharpened, I just know they cut well. In my handheld sharpening video from a few years ago I got my hands on a microscope to show the blade edges, perhaps I'll do that again for a comparison between standard sharpening and pull thru.

@@innerbarkoutdoors YES! I would love to see a microscope view of what the carbites of this sharpener do! because i sell some lansky Carbide sharpeners at work and i noticed exactly what JG Harts said with the Micro bites in the edge!

I also have a few of those types of sharpeners and sometimes they work great and other times they suck, I’m not sure if it’s me not doing it right or if it depends on the steel. I own quite a few knives and being into knives 🔪 I hate dull knives. My solution is to sharp them as easy as I can, so I use that sharpening system on my less expensive knives because at times they leave a rough edge but are quite short.. For my really good expensive knives
