I gave away most of my Alice issue years ago. I've been wanting to put together another, but using only GI (no "made in China") gear. I finally found an "almost new" training butt pack today for a very fair price. Two mag/grenade pouches and I'm good to go...
It is hugely important to bear in mind that any sort of load-bearing belt setup is going to depend on your waistline. I'm a pretty thin bloke so I must keep my belt shorter than most and this does not afford me the luxury of having the standard four magazine pouches and two canteens. Instead I have to limit myself to two magazine pouches (never mind that one pouch has been substituted with an IFAK anyway!) This is a major reason that modern "war belts" are used to supplement your vest or plate carrier LBEs. Personally I subscribe to the belief that a belt should be what allows you to survive long enough to access the rest of your equipment, so only the absolute essentials should be carried on there. I include shelter and fire-starting equipment among these articles, especially for overnight hiking or long patrols away from ready resupply -- and nothing does this better than a standard rear pouch. The ALICE belt and harness system is still excellent equipment today despite being thoroughly displaced by more modern MOLLE equipment. It carries everything you need, it's easy to wear and adjust to your body type, and it is reliable under the most adverse conditions. In addition, a typical ALICE rig can be comfortably worn with older styles of body armour than weren't designed with MOLLE compatibility in mind. Perhaps because of this the Russian _Smersh_ counterpart to ALICE perseveres today, combining the adaptability of MOLLE with the ease of use of ALICE and proving that there is still a real place on modern battlefields for load bearing equipment separated from body armour.
You can always attach the canteens to the buttpack and the Etool to the Buttpack to free up space. The type of Etool can vary due to location you are at. You have the M1943 Etool carried in the M1951 cover or the more modern Tri-Fold Etool in the rubber cover.
also I wear mine down super low, im up in the mountains so having it down on your hips keeps you more balanced on slopes, but wear it high on low, and flat ground
i usually wear mine over my body armor but since my body armor is one of the old fallujah era type vests im pretty much fuckled if i get wounded and need to get all that shit off the vest doesnt have a quick release and it opens from the center
I've got plate carriers chest rigs I am so into trying to build a Alice set up I have a large Alice pack I'm working on everything else now just seems to work better

H came before Y. The Y is designed to allow full arm rotation and scapular range of motion. Comfort is found with the H but function is found with the Y

@@doitriteak huh, seems there was multiple interpretations of the pouch. im assuming this is a troll comment but on the off chance your serious i dont see why not i mean it wouldnt really have a negative effect or decrease your creature hunting efficiency....
I have this issue that the pistol belt kinda sags in on itself when attaching heavy load, tried adjusting the suspenders but when getting the belt to not sag it's the back side is lower than the front.
Try increasing the points of contact. I use the brotish yoke for 12 points. I strap 550 cord between two points and lace the yoke straps through it. Also use the old school isomat and make a belt liner. This will stiffen your belt and help prevent hot spots
@@doitriteak using lc1 clone pistol belt with lc2 suspenders, had no issues with it if there isnt a buttpack on it. Gonna see if I can find some paracord
If you can find H suspenders that were issued before those suspenders they carry and ride more comfterble
Not for me. They inhibit full scapular range of motion

Have a 31” waist so yes I get it … prefer the LBE I’ve rather than the modern systems with some caveats

That is a good working system from the looks of it.
I really like some of the transitional equipment between ALICE and MOLLE.

Are there any major advantages between Y and H pattern suspenders? I don’t know why they made two patterns for.
