The homeless are such a blessing. All they want is to be a part of our community. They are such great stewards of our environment. They definitely aren’t using drugs.
Salt Lake needs to catch up with the times. Skid row in LA knows this won't be going away any time soon. So they have placed puplic portable toilets and mobile showers to help these people. They've even got a community laundry mat so they can have clean clothes. The city rents out unused parking lots and allows people to come in for the night to park and sleep in their car or van. These parking lot community's have a tent kitchen with a hand and dish washing area and microwave's. The majority of homeless people I've interviewed do want help they just don't have a clue where to start. It would also help to open up a few more mental health facilities. Many have mental illness but are not receiving medication. It's not going away any time soon it will grow on a daily basis until real help is available.
Imagine, coming from LA (or anywhere in California for that matter) and thinking you have any business giving advice to other states on how to handle homelessness. What a joke. Part of the reason California is basically overrun with this vermin is because they've enabled it. Those portable toilets and showers get trashed within days, because that's how these people treat hand-outs. Quit giving them Narcan; let them OD. Arrest them--they're already breaking the law--and throw them in institutional drug treatment programs.
They will never do anything like California here. So most likely everything's going to get a lot worse before it gets better, it already has instead of having one big homeless encampment downtown in the Rio Grande area now they have at least a hundred of them all over the place because of operation Rio Grande and I think that operation cost 10 million taxpayer money
Cleaning up these sites doesn't solve homelessness! How about giving the homeless a HOME??? Then helping them to KEEP their home! Then giving them the help they need in others areas of their lives??? But this would require LOVE and Compassion. Something that is in very short supply in the U.S.
Yes, build a shelter there for EVERYONE. No terms and conditions, just an urban campground. Trash and recycle bins, bathrooms, and a few shelters. Heck, pay someone who lives there to be a property manager and give them a phone so they can report if anything needs fixed. It could easily run itself with next to no upkeep. Could even exchange trash and recycling for cash like I saw them do somewhere else. Help people out.
What are you waiting for? How many of the homeless people can you move into your house today and tomorrow? Or is YOUR love and compassion in short supply
If the homeless would clean up their trash, human waste, keep the area clean, these cleanups wouldn't be necessary. But unfortunately they don't. I've seen these camps, they are disgusting.

Admittedly I am a bit calloused after living downtown for six years and living through the frustration of the lack of respect shown by some homeless folks. It's a complicated situation. As reported, many of them will not accept help so no matter how many resources are made available, there will always be a population with nowhere to go.
So being frustrated justifies throwing another persons belongs away and forcing them into the elements? Then make excuses like “the problem will never be solved” to soothe the conscience of committing evil acts. Sorry, but I disagree. These are all terrible excuses
@@pamelaarana1942 I think they are given notice prior to the breakdown of these camps so they can retrieve their belongings if they want to. Since these camps simply cannot be left as they are, what would you suggest be done?
Sure...it’s next to the Capitol. But it’s also next to the LDS Church headquarters who hoard billions of dollars and only about 1% goes to charity. Imagine if they used those funds for affordable housing or at least temporary shelter, education, medical help, free birth control (including optional vasectomy/tubes-tied AND abortions), education/trade training, mental healthcare... you know items that actually help people instead of pass-along proselytizing cards.
Well said! LDS church is the biggest cult in the world. It’s so sad how brainwashed it’s members are. I lived in Utah for 3 years and the Mormons were the least compassionate, unfriendly, arrogant, bigoted group of people I ever met. They will never donate a dime to the homeless because the poor people will never be able to donate money back into their cult!
No mention of where the former inhabitants went to? Surely not to anything funded by the US government. .How many were veteran's and were they helped? Some people are flat out disgusting.
I understand why but if your going to camp somewhere you don't have to trash the area just cuz your outside how about putting a dumpster there have trash truck come around on a weekly basis just cuz your homeless doesn't mean you have to trash the area , I have a idea let's put them on a bus and take them to the unemployment office, sitting around feeling sorry for your self blaming your problem on others waiting around for someone to come save you will get you know where , you may not like the job but that's just life depending on others trying get guilt trip people into giving you stuff out of just laziness no way to live every where you go there is help wanted signs put the drugs and alcohol down that is not the reason why you got in this situation to begin not all homeless people but significant amount I've noticed nobody is coming to pull you out of this hole get your self together and do whatever it takes I'm not saying it will be easy and just be over night all your problems are gone but you will find a way out if you keep at it
And they also have plenty of dumpsters and we give them plenty of big black trash bags all the time when we go up there and do all these other places it just gets so out of hand that's why we have a basement because people are sick of walking down the street and homeless people asking for money or cigarettes to buy drugs they don't even want food when you offer to buy them food they just want money for drugs they just want to be left alone and be in their own world they don't want to take the time to get help
homeless are a created demographic. This provides a duality to the normal people. Without homelessness, people would begin to question the living standards they put up with from their landlords everyday. People would realize the game and start getting smarter.
“And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” (Matt. 25:37-40.) Utah LDS Church members and LDS church officials in Utah Government be like: "I took your blankets, tents, and warmth..."
The government has to give them a place to live. The worst things homeless people do are trashes, then the city has to provide them with large bin so they can throw their trashes.
This issue could be solved fairly easily. You can build free housing on public land with either trailers or tiny homes. Provide security, food, transportation and social services so that people would get help and support. Now they have a secure and free place to live. So, you can now tell them you can either live in the free place, pay for your own housing, leave, or go to jail, but you won't be sleeping on the streets or in the woods anymore. It would take some money, yes, but it would be better for everyone if we didn't have homeless encampments and far better for them.
The tiny house communities in Los Angeles are in high demand. They offer laundry facilities, mail boxes, and more, and people really want to be there. It's a great stepping stone to get a lot of people back on their feet, because a lot of people just need that small boost to help them. Furthermore, they don't cost all that much, or take up a lot of land. Utah really needs to follow California's lead.
Just let them roam the trails like we do here in Ogden! IN TWO YEARS I HAVE NOT SEEN ONE COP ON THE OGDEN RIVER TRAIL. OPD says they patrol it all the time. LIARS.

I am really surprised to see this in Utah. My sister went to Utah a couple years ago and said how pretty and how clean it was. Being that it's mostly Mormons are there you would think that they would help their people get these people in touch with family members or some thing. This is just a little shocking to me. @@hi-lx7wr no, it isn't. It's a never-ending cycle these City officials I'm sure their getting paid a lot of money to solve a relatively easy problem they are getting paid to keep the homeless homeless if they were to get the people off the streets they could have done it already but they're getting paid to keep the homeless on the street and then say is their fault I will call that a a hustle
One of the primary reasons why people become homeless is due to economic disparity. When there is a disconnect between how much you make and how much you can afford such in the case of housing this problem arises. The solution to homeless is never going to get resolved unfortunately by throwing money at it, just look at how California is dealing with it. A lot of people in this world are not cut out to be in high income roles to be able to afford expensive rent. Society must look for ways to build commune based housing such as countries like Japan where they provide a lot of housing in a dense area like Tokyo as a case study where for like 200 dollars you can afford a place to sleep in. People resort to heavier drug use while on the street because you remove one of the most essential basic needs which is shelter / security. If you give all those homeless individuals some autonomy back all their other problems will start to diminish over time.
Just cleaning it up not going to make them go away they just move somewhere else. When governments invest $100 into social services this is what you get.

If these homeless people kept the camps tidy and didn't accumulate the tons and tons of trash, the city might be more sympathetic to their plight.
We tried to shut them down but once we leave they go back to the same place and there's so many of them in salt lake City it is nuts
The homeless are such a blessing. All they want is to be a part of our community. They are such great stewards of our environment. They definitely aren’t using drugs.
Get ‘‘em cleaned up before the midterms
So most likely everything's going to get a lot worse before it gets better, it already has instead of having one big homeless encampment downtown in the Rio Grande area now they have at least a hundred of them all over the place because of operation Rio Grande and I think that operation cost 10 million taxpayer money
amen
But that makes to much sense!
What are you waiting for? How many of the homeless people can you move into your house today and tomorrow? Or is YOUR love and compassion in short supply

It's definitely a problem and there is a lot of calloused attitude toward them.

I love that Corporate Media calls it homeless camp cleanup instead of removing the homeless with no where to go. 🤣
No mention of where the former inhabitants went to? Surely not to anything funded by the US government. .How many were veteran's and were they helped? “And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” (Matt. 25:37-40.) The government has to give them a place to live. The worst things homeless people do are trashes, then the city has to provide them with large bin so they can throw their trashes.
We can’t provide them housing right now! Maybe after we build the gondola up to Alta and Snowbird?

Gov't jobs and gov't housing . The big problem is the hard drugs.
