A lot of music is in our ears because this little guy shared it. Bravo for getting Rodney on and being so kind to him. He deserves a lifetime achievement award! Bravo Sunset Sound
Rodney's disco at the Starwood was some of the best punk rock ever. Rodney is a sweetheart and I owe many thanks to him for putting me on his guest list every Tuesday night, and letting Robbie (Poshboy) and I join him for breakfast at Denny's many a morning. And don't tell me the girls aren't around anymore, still have the same phone number??
Thanks Drew and everybody at legendary Sunset Sound for these invaluable roundtables which give us music geeks so much insight and information! This is pure gold! And long live the one and only Mayor of the Sunset Strip, Mr. Rodney Bingenheimer for introducing us to so much great, great music. This video put a smile on my face 56 minutes and 29 seconds long!
I live in Hollywood, and I've seen Rodney shopping in the Ralphs grocery store I shop at for years. He drives this old blue Pontiac GTO. I never knew who he was, but man, he's like the guy who's witnessed everything in Hollywood from the early 60's until now. Next time I see him I'm going tell him how cool he is.
"Stop listening to the government and the media and just be kind to one another" The most profound statement I've ever heard on youtube or any other platform for that matter. 👋
Rodney's life stories are godhead. I hadn't heard he was at Rolling Stones, December's Children session. I actually yelled, Holy Crap! Driving down the road.
The Zappa house with the bowling alley was called the Log Cabin and it was at 2401 Laurel Canyon Boulevard. That's where the Alice Cooper band auditioned for Frank. It was a HUGE log cabin that was once owned by Tom Mix. The Zappas rented it and lived there less than 6 months. The Zappas then moved to the house that Lady Gaga now owns.
Thank You for being so kind to Rodney, Drew. It was a very sweet interview and you can tell RB is nervous but having a good time. I don't think he's ever done a podcast
Rodney is truly the GODFATHER of introducing the greatest bands of all time to us and he has done more for me in terms of loving truly unique music you did not hear anywhere else than any other DJ has EVER done. I HAVE SO MUCH LOVE FOR THIS MAN! 🖤🖤🖤 It’s also truly sad a lot of people have forgotten about this beautiful man. All the people he introduced and befriended. Where are they now for him, I wonder? He truly RULES in my book! Hell, I was one of the people that donated to have him FINALLY get a star on HOLLYWOOD. It was ridiculous how long it took for him to get one! I will never ever forget this sweet man! I love you RODNEY!! 🖤🐈⬛🖤🦇🖤⚰️🖤🧛🏻♀️🖤🎶 🖤
Wonderful interview! Love you, Rodney! Haven't seen you in 45 plus years, but I have the memories. Some of the best times of my life!! The 70's were fab!
I heard him on KROQ FM during is final run on there and some of his show now on Sirius XM. He is a HOF disc jockey of the Los Angeles music scene. I live and based in Minneapolis, Minnesota so you don’t hear much about him on less you are a fan. Love this guy.
Growing up i remember Rodney was on 8PM till Midnight, Saturday and Sunday. KROQ did him wrong.. apart from Rodney 91X played less playlist and deep tracks. GBY Rodney.. Rodney hung out with Sweet, and Mark Farner and many others that we're not mentioned.
One can not over estimate the impact & importance of Rodney On The Roq's a influence & contributions to the music industry & pop culture in general. NO ONE has broke more iconic artists like Rodney!! The list is RIDICULOUS ❤🎉😊
Great interview! 👍🏻 Yeah, crazy that I never knew anything about Rodney beyond his work on KROQ. I used to listen to him all the time. Then a couple years ago I finally started realizing that was him, Rodney B is Rodney on the Roq, doing all this great stuff with bands. I guess that’s just how it is, I really don’t know what any Radio DJs/hosts/personalities looked like that I’ve been listening to… other than Howard Stern. Now with interviews like this and social media, it’s cool to finally see what these folks look like! 🤘🏻🎸💯😎
I was in North Hollywood listening the first time he played Van Halen on KROC . It was always interesting and fun to listen to his Sunday night show back then.
What about "The Adolescents" and "Amoeba" .,.,. Just saw this interview with Rikk Agnew.,,.grew up in Southern California.,First heard KLOS & KMET in 1976 when I was 6 years old.,.Started listening to Dr. Demento in 1978.,Can't remember when I first heard KROQ..,,I remember when Sundays were KMET & Dr Demento.,KROQ.,(Oh hell that smell it's Katie Odell) Rodney on the Roq.,Or KLOS.,with "Paraquat Kelly"., & the 7th day show when they played 7 albums in a row.,
Pretty cool 😎 Two Things: Chas Chandler of The Animals was Jimi Hendrix's manager, not Hilton Valentine. There's a story about Peter Tork of The Monkees riding with Jimi Hendrix in the rented Corvette Stingray you mentioned, and wrecking it on Mulholland Drive.
Any chance of getting us in touch with Rodney? It's great to see him seemingly happy more than dissatisfied! I am an aspiring writer and we are creating a fully mobile touring mobile Rock Radio Station. We are dead set on and 100% positive that places like the Sunset Strip can be revitalized with the right people and right components. Some innovative creation of events and revisiting the past about 3 decades back by doing certain things will require some collaboration from people all over in the entertainment industry that have been greatly affected by the decline on the Strip, Hollywood, and other once thriving nostalgic locations throughout the country. I am that sharp tack that keeps finding seats sat on through the truly pathetic acts of people who have simply given up and keep sitting back down on that chair. Time to get up, collaborate and make a movement. We'll be in Sunset Strip just before or after the new year. Tell Rodney I apologize for calling him on a Sunday (Monday early morning) I just thought he was still a night owl! My god he can be mean!! ;)
Good for you, Rodney! I remember you from the Del Charro Apts when we were kids and you had your mind set on Hollywood. Your claim to fame in those days was that your car leaked oil on the Beverly Hillbillies driveway. I'm so glad you lived the life you dreamed of. Rick Herzog
If I had experienced my adolescence on the Strip back then I would have gotten lost sooner or later like a lot of the LA FOXES. I mean how could a young Rock afficionado cope with all of this glamorous diversion?.🤔
Far too much discussion about Van Halen, and asking Rodney if he thought Dave was a good vocalist was awkward. Rodney never has an unkind thing to say about anyone, let alone his friends like David Lee Roth.
***DREW: @16:25 “What’s your take on that?”….. (Drew asks Rodney which studio does he like more {where Van Halen cut music}, Sunset Sound or 5150 -EVH’s home studio?) ***RODNEY: “I like it here better, for sure. You feel more at home, here.” ***DREW: “Did you ever go up to 5150?” ***RODNEY:”No.”......….. (crickets:“….🦗🎶….🦗🎶”) 😂WTF?😂! LOL

Love Rodney, know him well but this interview guy... "Did you live in London?" next thing I know comes "The Chili Peppers..". Ugh. He's exactly like every well meaning boob that clings on to Rodney while he's just trying to eat a bowl of soup. Rodney though appreciates his fans, always.
Well , if "Hollywood is dead as a doornail" what are you going to do about that Mr. Mayor ?....playing Green Day, Blink 182 , Dramarama records ? No doubt ......all such "godheads".......👍🥴 Serve him a drink at least , Rodney sounds thirsty . Why didn't he like the interesting "Mayor Of Sunset Strip" docu ? because it showed some actual sad real life drama instead of continuous "happy happy fame" ? Anyway , sweet guy ofcourse.
Very good interviewer!
Drew is the best. He was so nice to Rodney. You can tell Rodney was nervous
Nobody has helped more bands than Rodney. Huge respect for him.
A lot of music is in our ears because this little guy shared it. Bravo for getting Rodney on and being so kind to him. He deserves a lifetime achievement award! Bravo Sunset Sound
Rodney was everywhere in Hollywood back in the day! What a great life he has led, and the people he knew!
And still knows.
Rodney's disco at the Starwood was some of the best punk rock ever. Long live The Mayor of The Sunset Strip. Maximum love and respect for Rodney.
I first heard U2‐BOY. Rodney on the ROQ. 1980.
Does anyone still remember Rodney on the Rock on KROQ? Best show ever.
I attended one of those shows at The Starwood back in the mid 1970's. before the 1st LP.
Rodney Bingenheimer for President ! Thanks for posting !
❤️
Rodney introduced some much great music back when he was on KROQ

Rock N Roll would not be the same without him.
Rodney’s radio show was a staple i my life. I so miss it.😢

Living legend of rock history.

Actually Lizzie jagger bought the house from Gaga recently so it’s in I. Good hands

Rodney it seems has always been that way, quiet, meek guy when hes interviewed. Ive followed him from my time in the 70s /80s.
Hell ya i have been waiting weeks for this
me too. wonder why it wasn't premiered
Great interview. No hype nothing out of sorts. Good clean fun Rodney was totally chill too. Totally humble but has every right to brag.
Rodney is a gem! Loved listening to his stories.

Rodney is an Icon, a Godhead!
Great interview!
Rodney can write a book and a movie can be made about him.
His movie is called Mayor of the sunset strip.
One can not over estimate the impact & importance of Rodney On The Roq's a influence & contributions to the music industry & pop culture in general.

Great times back then. People forget that the L.A. area was a major music scene.
Good interview. Great subject with rodney
Great interview! 👍🏻

Rodney’s English Disco
Awesome interview! Thanks so much.
Awesome interview.
Definitely enjoyed tf outta this✊🏼
I love the honest low key personality
I just bought Jimi Hendrix electric ladyland documentary DVD at fodacs for just 1 dollar and a half. I had to grab it cuz it's unavailable on RUclips.
The interviewer was earning his money on this one.
"So you were the person who discovered Van Halen, David Bowie and many others"
"Yeah"
😂😂😂😂
Love these interviews gentlemen!! So much good stuff!! Thank you. PLAY LOUD!

Working at kaiser hospital in bellflower late 70s listening to Rodney on the rocks

I was hoping that they would have asked Rodney about The Rotters. I definitely love to hear his side of the story.
Rodneys English disco

Rick Herzog
did Rodney mention George Hickenlooper?
The hair!
The Animals' bass player, Chas Chandler managed Hendrix - not guitarist, Hilton Valentine.
If I had experienced my adolescence on the Strip back then I would have gotten lost sooner or later like a lot of the LA FOXES. I mean how could a young Rock afficionado cope with all of this glamorous diversion?.🤔
by the way whatever happened to Rodney's favorite band the Jam?
Not much - 8 x UK top-3 singles including 3 at #1; three x UK top 3-studio LPs; three x UK top-3 compilation LPs; one Live LP @ #2.
Eddy Nash. Why can't they talk about him lol?
Bobby Fuller Four
I heard sex pistols on khj, the last song they played
THAT WIG!!!!! 😂😂😂😂 That exemplifies California!😂😂😂😂
I didn't realize this man was that young. 🤣
Is it just me or does the host seem hung up on VanHalen?
He’s a VH fan
Far too much discussion about Van Halen, and asking Rodney if he thought Dave was a good vocalist was awkward. Rodney never has an unkind thing to say about anyone, let alone his friends like David Lee Roth.
So thats what happened to Moe Howard's wig!!
I was hoping he would speak about Spector.

Everything has become so corporate
How much did Phil Spector pay to get pissed on?
ha... Now I know where lady Gaga lives. lol.
Green Day, Coldplay...oh, well. Can't win 'em all.
God I hate Coldplay!
The interviewer is not the brightest guy. "Remember Toni Basil?" [Looks not sure.] Really?!
Well , if "Hollywood is dead as a doornail" what are you going to do about that Mr. Mayor ?....playing Green Day, Blink 182 , Dramarama records ? No doubt ......all such "godheads".......👍🥴
