      What mistakes I made

    • @TRS-Tech
      @TRS-Tech 7 лет назад +8

      golf Wagen ..... Your mistakes are.... 1. The wrong type of cable, you should never use solid core cable with alarm systems they can fracture and create intermittent faults..... 2. The panel wiring is messy and your low voltage cables are right next to the mains, this puts noise on the wiring...... 3...... I'm not sure of the purpose of the relay but its good that you placed a diode in parallel with the coil...... 4....... The PIR is at the wrong level. It should be at least 3M from the ground or at ceiling hight.......5....... The bell should be outside on the wall, it serves little purpose inside.....6...... When you installed the PIR you touched the sensor head with your finger, this can damage it and reduce its lifespan.....7 ........ There is no fused spur on the mains inlet, I can only speak from a UK perspective but this is a regulation here..... 8 ...... You didn't set the time and date on the system, this won't stop it working but is bad practice..... Finaly the install is rushed, none of the cables are tidy or loomed as someone else has noted. The entire install is just sloppy and no care has been put into it. Good alarm engineers are proud of the job they do and like to make sure the wiring is tidy and the install is neat. Take more care, use the correct cable and follow best practice. I have to say I agree with the comments and I would give you the sack if you left an install like this in a customers home. Sorry to be so blunt but decent engineers cringe when they see things like this. Can I ask what you have used the relay for?

    You always want to keep the drill motor moving as you break through the wall. This will ensure the best possible chance of hitting electrical or plumbing. Never use a level, most burglars have OCD and this will confuse them if they happen to locate the panel. I can't speak to the rest of the video, I had to stop watching before I got hurt.

    You will generate hotspots on the wiring without ferrules! They are obligatory in most places so USE THEM! (Especially on the power lines). Also the speaker and the keypad needs reinforced alarm cable because of the power consumption.

    • @theintruder77
      @theintruder77 Год назад

      Keypads consume so little energy in the form of milliamperes that no perceptible heat is ever generated. Telco quad wire is the norm for installations in Canada. Some ULC systems demand that stranded wire be used but only in commercial ULC locations. Stranded wire has its merits but not in normal residential installations. Cat5 level and higher are not recommended because of the corruption of data transfer between various modules.

    • @MsMc111
      @MsMc111 Год назад

      @@theintruder77 Time flies, and I am through a lot of wiring. For the stranded wires, I still use ferrules, even if it's 12V DC, I sleep well that way. And for the wires, we use alarm cables here, 6x0,22 or 8x0,22, and for the siren 2x0,5+6x0,22 for when there is a battery to charge, while the siren is operating. That's what I meant by the reinforced part. But yes, don't use cat5, it is also a mess when it comes to color coding the system. And looks extra bad in the documentation.

      Could not agree more. I remember a housing estate that had the first fit done and a local company decided to fit the Scantronic 9800 (if anyone remembers that panel). We ended up checking all these systems that kept going into tamper.... We discovered that the keypads were all mounted using double sided sticky pads (facepalm) .... They had a dodgy enough back tamper as it was !
      The installing company ended up having every single URL pulled after the police attended nearly 60 false triggers in under 2 months.
      I have no objections or problems with someone filming an install.... My problem is that many people may treat this as a "how to" video. This is why the kit and industry have a bad name. Aside from equipment developing a fault a properly installed system should NEVER false alarm. To install a system properly requires the installer to know all the pitfalls like mounting a PIR above a radiator or selecting mouse fart sensitivity modes on detection devices.
      This may sound petty, picky or over the top but people need to remember that a system that fails to operate can give insurance companies the perfect excuse not to pay out. Would you expect your car to work most of the time aside from the engine cutting out and the wheel coming of now and again ?
      Not everything is suitable for DIY installation !

    I’m trying to get my head round this. I used to be an alarm engineer many years ago. I always used alarm cable-4,6 or 8 core. Never phone cable! The inside of your control panel looks like a birds nest. That needs tidying up. The mains cable and alarm cable are too close together. There’s a lot of things to talk about here. I always covered the heads of my screws inside my PIR’s with electrical tape. The foam backing on the bell box- am I missing something here? Is that how it’s done now a days? You touched the PIR sensor!- Jeez, I would have murdered an apprentice for doing that. That relay! What the hell was that? Maybe it’s just different standards in different counties, but wow! Was this some sort of demonstration video. Is this a DIY job. So many questions.

    • @golfwagen4173

      I'm using an alarm cable in the real world. but often the customer already has a 5e cable installed.
      I'm going to get involved and there's no problem. I think the problem would be long distances.
      "he inside of your control panel looks like a birds nest. That needs tidying up" - I agree with it is my weakness
      relay I give because (because we do not want to program pgm)
      I only put the insulating tape on the screws when the situation demands it
      catch a sensor that is no pain

    Too many know-it-alls think they can install their own alarm properly. I know alarm company installers that still cannot get it right. Nearly all small alarm company installers are capable of wiring a home for 110vac but hardly any electricians could properly install a professional alarm system. Yet, electricians have to be licensed and alarm companies do not hire licensed alarm technicians because there is no such thing. Thus we get peel and stick systems being installed by the likes of ADT at horrendous monitoring fees and binding contracts by ill trained and installers that can barely speak English.

    Why don't you buy yourself a nice pair of wire strippers and a small hammer to tap in rawplugs instead of end of screwdriver?

    • @golfwagen4173
      @golfwagen4173  7 лет назад

      wire strippers are we doing wrong, I often have a variety of cables. Hammer is a good thing, I agree, but I use often installation for short span screwdriver

    This installation is dangerous. The transformer cannot be placed inside the panel box. Not kosher with the electrical code in North America. A level would have been nice. Totally inappropriate 220vac connection and could be a fire hazzard. This video should not be allowed on Utube. This is what give alarm systems a bad rap in the industry. Do not follow this instruction. Please.
    Cat5 wire should not be used with Paradox Panels. The data transfer can be corrupted between modules and cause many problems. Many things this guy does are not , definitely not acceptable. My company would never let this guy through the door.

      TO by som bol za, pretože stretávam sa s mnohými ľuďmi čo si doma robia svoje zabezp. sys. a myslím že im to pomôže. Ale inak super video, čo sa týka ukážky inštalácie aj nastavenia. Prípadne ak by ste niekedy natočili aj ďalšie a boli by v Slovenčine :) Ale to je iba návrh.

    No offence but if you bending that motherboard with such force when you driving in the screws you will ruin every circuit and soldering on the piece...

      Any component that soldered to a board at risk when you bend the board. Cheap manufacturers in China and some shady Europeans make shitty boards and bad quality soldering..so to bend a board is not something I recommend in general.

    I would like to gift you a spirit level. Can you message me with your postal address so I can send you one?
    I installed my first system when I was 13 years old, the programming back then was dip switches and a pot. Keep up the study on security, I wish you well.

      Hey, when I was 13 I played hockey in the yard. Work has never been my dream. But seriously - when I filmed this video so I had a camera placed askew, so it seems that I've mounted askew. but not in practice, do not use a spirit level still is governed by the eye. (Monte furniture when there is already a spirit level I use - I have such the ancient, collector's item will make of it video) ...

    Mains cable going direct to panel transformer? Very bad installation, mains cable should go to an non switchable spur fuse, then from that to the panel transformer. I take it this guy is no alarm engineer.

    Ok , clearly you cut the cable when trying to strip it, wrong wire Gage , panel not level, oh I can keep going, get out of the industry please.
