Old player here. I started Master Duel on release not playing the card game since the DDD Structure deck, and thanks to Master Duel I caught up incredibly fast as an F2P and constantly hit Diamond rank any time I want to play on ladder. 10/10 great way to catch-up if you're will to give it the time of day

Boomer here. Played TCG back in the OG days (02-05). Stopped playing once I started college. Was nothing personal. Just had other interests. Near the start of 2022, I'm casually strolling through my PSN and see a friend playing MD. Caught my interest even more when I saw it was F2P. Was hesitant at first. I was overwhelmed by all the changes over the years. Synchros, XYZs, Pendus, handtraps etc. It was a rough transition. Over time, I figured out the modern playstyle from replays, watching numerous youtubers/twitch streamers, and of course playing online myself. I've reached Gold rank once and hope to get to Plat at least once. I'd describe the transition like a storm. Its rough and rocky at first, but if you ride it out and learn the modern style its completely possible for any ogs to get back into yugioh. The problem is there are so many changes most older players just dip out after a game. I recommend joining a discord server or finding a friend who can walk you through it for anyone struggling.

6:40 Yes, can confirm. I play Swordsoul in Gold and was not able to rank up into Plat. I've been playing against Runick, Labrynth, Mathmech and other Swordsoul players. The main reason of this is that ranking up further won't give you shit. It would just make you spend more time on ranking up next season. Now however, I think this disease would disappear with Konami increasing gems for ranking in Plat and Diamond.

Notes from an Ancient Gear Mechanic; Now, I'm a Yugiboomer(I've been playing this game since it first came out in the late 90's) but I'd personally give Master Duel a 8/10. Here's why I put it that way....
    1) While I have no problem with the Meta decks in higher ranking(it happened way back when as well), I kinda wish Konami would add an exclusive Archetype for the game only.
    2) in order to get anywhere in the game, you have to go through Rank which, while I have no real problem with it in general, can be a real slog to get there ....
Overall, I personally like the game despite my issues with it. Have fun gang and remember; Ancient Gear for the win!

The comparison between old Yugioh decks to Ahri is like comparing Apples and Oranges,
Ahri can be buffed 2 weeks from now when Riot updates the game and become meta again while Master duel can't do that to Unchained to make them meta, because yea Riot makes money from selling Ahri skins, while Konami makes money from selling new cards so old cards and old archetypes don't mean much to them as they do to sentimental players that like playing Volcanics in 2023

Maybe a "clan" system, where you can join as many as you want. Just join a random goat clan and randomly invite players.
Would even be great if you could make a custom banlist tied to the clan you can view before joining.

It depends what it’s link rating is. You have to at least equal the number of monsters required and the link rating required. If it says 2+ monsters and is link 3 you need to use at least 2 separate monsters that equal link rating 3. So a link 2 monster plus one other monster for example. 3 monsters could also work here. But you could make a link 1 or 2 first then the link 3. Another thing that confused me is link monsters can ONLY go to the extra monster zone or a zone one points to.

To be fair to the second guy, the fact that there will always be an optimal strategy doesn't mean that other strategies shouldn't also be viable or unaccessible.
Like, Team Fortress 2 is a wonderful example of this, since most of the unlocks are more sidegrades than upgrades. Even though there may be an overall optimal build for every class, there are gimmicks that fit the play style of some players better than those optimal builds, and you can find just as much success using some of those gimmicks as you can the optimal strategy if you are skilled enough.
YuGiOh unfortunately will never be like that due to it's design principles, which is something you will need to go through the five stages of grief for.

With resources like RUclips and MDMeta I catched up pretty quick and had fun feeling like I'm a part of a community with people who enjoys the same things as I do. My guess most bad reviews are from people who didn't want to invest the time to learn, every multiplayer game have a learning curve, maybe it's just not for them. I had never played YGO until master duel and I have to say that the tutorial was great at explaining a lot, however I would've found playing against players WAY more annoying if I didn't have a friend to clue me in on hand traps and what a lot of the best considerations for making decks are. Also beating what looked like a copied meta deck with ghostrick in gold was one of my fave moments of master duel
