LYRICS:
Bubblegum dog
Tell me what the truth is
Isn’t this bed a log?
Doesn’t that confuse things?
Shouldn’t I run?
Isn’t that the white man?
None of this seems like fun
But maybe that’s the point man?
For years I’ve strung you along
Afraid of the Bubblegum dog
And it’s finally catching up with me
I hope it’s a false alarm
‘Cause the pain of the bubblegum dog
It’s finally catching up with me
Who’da believe I saw
Tenement homes
Built upon a fault line
Juvenile quetzal birds
Living in the coal mine
Manicured lawns
Tibetan straw men
Igneous basketballs
Drifting through the heavens
I hate this earthly world
But hate is a very strong word
And it’s finally catching up with me
The years of plodding on
In fear of the Bubblegum dog
It’s finally catching up with me
So I’ll pray it won’t be long
I’ll wake up and it’s all gone
You and me
We’ll keep it calm
My Bubblegum dog
Solo
The shame of vitriol
Aimed at the Bubblegum dog
It’s finally catching up with me
I hate this bubblegum world
But hate is a very strong word
And it’s finally catching up with me
So we’ll hide until it’s gone
Boil the ones that don’t belong
Pay the man to keep it on
Days are short and nights are long
Bang our heads against the gong
Maybe tinkle on the lawn
One for all and all for one
My Bubblegum dog

I feel like a new chapter of my life starts everytime MGMT makes a new album.
Couldn't have said it better.
It’s crazy man but it’s true! 😂 I agree.
@@bradleywilliams7386 yep! damn
true that
You literally stole those words right my brain
"I felt hate toward the earthly world, but hate is a very strong word and its finally catching up with me" cool line
That's why I love MGMT. Hate will consume you and destroy.
I say this multiple times a day😅
It is so easy being a MGMT fan. No need to explain or understand. You just need to be open for their next creation and you'll feel it and have fun for sure. Enjoy it
I agree, but I also wish I knew someone else that could get hype with me for days like this!
Period!!
I never realised it until now but thats 100% true 😂😂
Honestly I always hear their songs and think "this is weird, I don't think I like it" but then hours later am singing about the Bubblegum Dog. Tricky bastards.
word to your mothersphere im on the intergalactic tube and this shiz aint nothin like what we got in space here'
"Bubblegum Dog" was the highest debut on the New Alternative 40 Chart this week

Fuck yesss
MGMT is one of the only bands out there that can routinely change their sound and create unique work and I still love it everytime.
King Gizzard and Lizard Wizard tooooo
Sorry but Animal Collective during his ten first years with one album or more for year, changing the game in every new one
Mgmt is great but even havent more of 5 albums in 16 years, with great experimentations but all inside of recognoszible pop/rock traditional music
But yeah, Mgmt is fantastic too
Oracular its just perfect for me and Congratulations its forever
yeah cause prolly written by ai. but whatever you say whitey
yall have not heard La Femme?
MGMT is not changing their sound. What are you talking about? This song sounds blown-out and cliche as hell. The ending rapes my ears.
I’m going to be 30 this year and MGMT still makes me feel like the kid that heard Electric Feel back in 2007. They just rock every single time 🔥
I turned 30 last November. I feel the exact same way. We're all growing old together.
30 last November too… I recently read that music heard during a person’s teen years are some of the strongest encoded memories one will ever have. Glad MGMT were some of mine ❤
I’m going to be 40 this year and Oracular Spectacular is still one of my top 3 albums of all time! This album (so far) sounds just as good!!!! Loving it!!
I'm 16 years old and this is my favorite band ❤
Bahahah what cool older sibling did you have to know Oracular when you were 13
These guys can always make a song that sounds like nothing I’ve ever heard before but also familiar.

Yessssssss! The goatee had me crackin up😂 loved the video
Imo at the beginning there's also a reference to Spellbound video by Siouxsie and the banshees.

Slint's Spiderland reference too
When he puts the goatee on thats the prodigy baby got a temper!
50% Syd Barret dream / 50% 90's alternative band. Love it.
My immediate impression also. Instant classic.
I discovered MGMT in 2008 and it changed my life. I was 14 years old, and listening to Oracular Spectacular from start to finish felt like I was hearing music for the very first time. I will always love MGMT and the memories associated with every album they've released
❤
Lol I believe That's my same exact story. I found them on myspace I must have been 13-14 time to pretend was the first song on their playlist. If i recall Their profile pic was like peanut butter toast. Crazy they are still around, and killing it.
❤this❤ I was 16 and it truly felt like you said. And it will never go away, I love them so much. They changed everything for me
Same but I was 16 when it came out. In my 30s now and they’re still one of my favorite bands ever.
Yep. Same here. 8th grade, trying liquor for the first time listening to Oracular. Kissing girls was the most exciting thing in the world.

MGMT makes me feel like my youth wasn't wasted. Thank you guys
I couldn't agree more with you, I like your comment. MGMT was the band of my life since 14 and I'm nearly 30.
I'm 34 and agree, definitely shaped rock for our generation. And they keep adding layers
mine was.. but I get what you mean
The young is starting to change, are you starting to change?
Yeah them and Tame Impala basically!
the Alice In Chains mtv unplugged part is so fucking awesome
MGMT had no weak album ever since and I strongly believe that next one will be an absolute banger 🍄🍄🍄
4 sure!
The lead singer also played drums on this song. And keyboards. Shawn Lennon, (John lennons son) also played keyboards. So did Ben, who helped with and added vocals and production. And we have James on guitar.
Andrew, Ben, James. Mgmt, (and Matt) with a Lennon appearance. This is the modern day Beatles. Turn on your ability to self reflect, this song is deep too
Sean
What if you are the bubble gum dog who saved the world on 2/20/24? 22-0-24?
MGMT is really above the pack of the whole late 2000s pitchfork-era indie rock bands, just so consistently great
What's wrong with the whole pitchfork era indie rock? It was fucking great.
@@phishcattI think he’s saying that they’ve proven themselves to be an all-time band. I totally agree the late 2000s pitchfork era bands were great, but usually they’d only have 1-2 great albums in them and are sort of confined to that one era and sound .
One of the most creative and underrated bands of our time. I myself became acquainted with them after the release of Little Dark Age, one of my favorite albums, and now, 5 years later, I can enjoy the new tracks with all of you on the day of release. Thank you very much MGMT
Welcome to the shitshow! I’m glad they continue to capture the attention of new and younger fans, MGMT 4EVER.

The guitar solo in this track is absolutely wicked.
It was Nietzsche who said, “I have given a name to my pain and call it ‘dog’.” I love how they’re articulating in both this and “Mother Nature” how they have to confront their fear of being “bubblegum” and just make fun, poppy songs again. 🎉
looking for an explanation in the comments; i accept this.
@@hiatusfromtheworld The person copied this interpretation from reddit and then missed the whole point lol. The use of "bubblegum" is the downplaying of pain and how it affects us. It is a lot easier to say things don't matter than accept that they actually do and face them. Andrew literally says it in the line "And I hate this bubblegum world, but hate is a very strong word."
consistently making epics to relax to during the apocalypse. theyll never know how much i love them
Apocolypse music I was thinking the same.
Time to pretend will be blasted on all speakers during when the apocalypse breaks.

Haha I love your comment, here's what it is!! I had this apocalypse vibe going on while listening to the new singles and you explained what it is haha
This video and Andrew’s sense of fashion is a love letter to early 90s grunge videos.
I picked up tributes to Soundgarden, STP, Alice In Chains and RHCP.
@@davidmreyes77 The very last scene is a homage to the Today video by Smashing Pumpkins. Billy Corgan (with hair) wearing a white suit with paint all down the front puts on his hat and walks away chewing gum.

Drum sound reminds me of an orphan of fortune. Andrew exercising his Southern twang sounds great, has grunge Kurt Cobain vibes "I felt hate toward the earthly world, but hate is a very strong word and it's finally catching up with me". Classic MGMT sound through Ben's playing throughout.
You guys have done another amazing job with this one and I love how you have helped us to savour it, you've clearly put a lot of work into this album.
Thank you 😭😭😭😭😭
The lyrics suck
Ben looking like the next samurai 😅
Another thoughtfully-written song that I'm going to come back to again and again. I love this band.
This song is my life, everything about it sums up what I'm going through right now. Avoiding reality, plodding along, hoping I'll wake up, not being able to escape, yet still wanting to run and hide. They like a lot of other bands I've listened to to have always managed to somehow synchronize with what is currently going on in my life.

The boys have rediscovered Rock 'n' Roll and it's _glorious_ !
Also, long-haired Ben is making me feel some confusing kinda way. 💜
😳
I really think this will be the album I’ve wanted them to make since I heard the congratulations title track. The progression of their sound and the writing is a joy to watch.
BOYS ITS TIME FOR ANOTHER MGMT CERTIFIED HOOD CLASSIC
From Time to Pretend to Siberian Breaks (the best prog song of this century), from It's Working to Little Dark Age, from Congratulations to Mother Nature, from Alien Days to Bubblegum Dog, besides the first great hits: MGMT: what a pleasure to wait for each new album and song and be surprised by the quality of new sounds. It is probably the most interesting band in the music industry. Flash Delirium!
The thing that I have always loved about MGMT is they do not care of you like their music or not. Some of the best music I've ever heard
The best part about this song is the genius lyrics. The bubblegum dog is clearly a symbol for the truth. Mgmt (characters at least) literally running from the truth after they asked the bubblegum dog to “tell (them) what the truth is.”
And the once you get that everything falls into place. Fear and “hatred of the world” as you run from the truth. But you have to know the truth is there to feel that hatred or you are just aloof.
People will be quick to think the lyrics are nonsense because of the title and the second verse, but they are very wrong. Even in the second verse, it may sound nonsensical, but the point is that the characters are trying to distract themselves as they are nervous
glad to be here on the same wave length with you all
The only band that can successfully write huge songs and still push meaning, sarcasm and resistance against the industry in one thing
Listen to the first line ya fool. This song is actually very deep if you just remember that line.
