It's one of the best albums of the century and nobody knows about it. It's a shame that everyone knows about the big 3 (Kids, Time to Pretend, Electric Feel), but doesn't even want to try listening to Congratulations
MGMT took a HUGE chance with this song and unfortunately it didn’t click with their audience. But this album is what made me respect them. They really care about music and were never trying to make a hit. This song proves how good they can be when they aren’t trying to make a hit. It’s so beautiful. One of my favorite songs of all time.
lol I think they knew it might not jive. wasn't their whole thing making a mainstream first album and getting successful so they could do whatever tf they wanted after? seems like they got that wish, even if they aren't as popular.
@@GBart same. I remember my older sisters loving it back in 2009. They used to share all their cool music w me, so I basically grew up on this kind of shit (I was only 11 yrs old back in 2009 lol this music video scared the shit out of me hahaha)
I think that was kind of the point. My interpretation is that they were showing that they can create things other than their popular songs. Like the eel that he pulled out of bens neck for electric feel and the excitement on the mans face. or the lines “the hotdogs getting cold” “climbing a tree with a missing limb” showing that the music on oracular spectacular isn’t what they are all about and they can make other music but they know it wont be a hit. Great song Edit: i also forgot to point out how andrew was trying to hide bens neck from singing this song. But after he pulls out the eel everyones happy again and dancing Edit 2: ALSO HOW THE FIRST DANCING WAS SLOW AND BORING BUT WHEN THE EEL GOES IN THE WEIRD MACHINE THEY START ACTUALLY DANCING EDIT 3: AND HOW BEN THINKS THAT ITS OKAY TO SHOW THE SONGS BECAUSE THE OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING FUN AND BEING SUPPORTIVE BUT WHEN HE DOES THEY ARE SHOCKED
It's really good, the last half is really champ. I think with a producer more geared to make it more "appealing to the public" this song could have been a big hit - but I think these guys are some of those tortured artist types who resent their catchier tunes. Also the video, while I like it, it's weird as fuck
Idk why but when Ben stands up and shows everybody his mad throat/mouth thingy, Andrew just sits there like "you've done it now Ben, Congratulations." It makes me laugh so hard
the thing in his throat is raw musical talent, the army/government is the music industry or producers or whatever. In the back of the car, he is expressing that he is uncomfortable keeping his talent away from everyone. Notice how evryone is taking a piece of a cake with his face on it at 0:43 ? everyone is there to get a piece of his 'pie'. Notice how even in the line dance, people do not look like their having fun? they're just going through the motions until they get to cash in on that pie. the bald one is an audio engineer, waiting for the talent to come outr and then manipulate it and stake his claim in that pie. the puppets represent a third party that is catering to the music corporations so that he will give his talent up to them by telling him what they want him to hear, convinced by this, he stands up and whips his talent out. before anyone can get over how beautiful it is, his talent is ripped from him and put into a machine where it is milked dry and manipulated until no longer resembles it's original self.
actually, the eel is the truth, and he's trying to get the truth out but they won't let him. the 'flash' is the fake story they tell the public. the dancing is the fakeness that the public sees, while on the inside they have dinner and welcome new inductees into the family, (the cake has a satanic symbol on it) and the dog is eating the head of a goat which represents baphomet.
Went to an MGMT's concert a few days ago and when they finished playing this song I just sat on the floor and started crying because I couldn't believe what I had just experienced
2010: I've just got home from school. I eat my lunch and head straight to my computer. FIFA 11 launches, I'm at the Asian practice ground practicing all my tricks with the ball, and making Kaka try some outrageous shots indeed. This song/video reminds me of my Psilosybin mushroom trip. I was so nervous and my stomach kind of hurt while the mushroom's poison was taking effect. Once it took effect, I began to reflect to on my life, on the negative and positive i've done, the people I've met in my life. Flash Delirium is probably my favorite song of MGMT and it's sad how underrated it is. Andrew looks hot af . I think it was the best phase of him. 0:36 this face kills me every time

If Wes Anderson and David Lynch made anything together it would look like this. I'm pretty sure the eel killing, anus machine would've been David's idea.
I see it in two ways: 1. They find their niche in these people and are welcomed, and when they take the eel out of his throat it is them taking away the constraints that many people tried to put on MGMT when they became popular. 2. The producers and fans seem welcoming and friendly, even unique first, but when MGMT attempted to produce different music (the hole in his throat reveal), the producers and fans pressure MGMT into making music that was similar to the more popular songs (eel from throat).
this song literally sounds like a bunch of instruments being banged against each other and some random singer singing in some voice modifier Electric feel was the best song they have ever made and probably will be the best song they ever will make
It's called being a human with different preferences it doesn't make a difference which song gets more views really if everything was up to someone else's standards the world wouldn't be diverse it would be boring and we'd all want to kill ourselves..
This song is genius! The whole album congratulations is a fantastic piece. It might be more appreciated with time(great music is timeless) but we will see. Looking forward to their new work' mgmt's music is always enthusing' I love it!!
Well, it's been ten years ago today. I remember not liking this track or album very much when it first came out since I was so closed minded about everything including music. But as the decade went by I began to in-a-way broaden my horizons and become more open minded. So then I eventually decided to listen to MGMT's discography only to discover that I absolutely love this band. This has to be one of my most favorite MGMT songs coming from, in my opinion, their best album. Thank you MGMT for doing what you do.
Any album they come up with in my opinion is incredible! I will forever support mgmt and the creativity they bring as musicians, especially since they just want to make the music they want to. We are lucky to have them !
i spent years looking for this video after seeing it maybe once or twice on some obscure music tv channel and the only thing i could remember from it was the part where the alien/worm thing was ripped from his throat but whenever i tried looking that up my efforts were fruitless but my sister was able to somehow find this gem of a song and i can finally rest easy now knowing it wasn’t just some hallucination i witnessed
There are only a few bands that I've had a common interest in with my friends, and MGMT was one of them. Then this came out and we lost that common interest, but I fucking love it.
Es totalmente majestuosa esta pieza, no se en que tomarían inspiración para lograr una de las mejores creaciones contemporáneas pero vaya que es hermosa.
I didn't like this song when it first came out...but man, I have come around It's amazing they made a pop song with SO many parts...and it all holds together. MGMT do that so well...writing songs that have 4 verses, 6 choruses, and 3 bridges...all at 4 minutes long...and it somehow makes sense. The lyrics are super psychedelic...wish I could discern the "meaning." To me, the song's about how absurd life can seem. How it's hard to take seriously what other people seem to take VERY seriously.
This song and video is a reaction to the success they had from the first album. While the first record is fantastic they didn't expect it to be so successful. They got stuck in that version of themselves as a band. In the video when Ben has the ''Electric Eel'' pulled out of his chest it for sure shows the breakaway from that fame.
lol in an interview the interviewer guy asks Andrew if this is what it’s about and he said no and how they’re not smart enough to come up with that 💀something like that
Reading comments on weird videos is always fun. I like how people try to make sense of videos like this, to be honest I think that MGMT is fucking with us how they know best...
Actually Guys...: The beginning of the video shows MGMT's fans who are excited that they have a new album, so its like a welcoming party. They're old people cause they're old fans of MGMT. And then we see someone try to open the bandages on Ben's neck, as they try to discover another "hit song" by MGMT (I'll explain that later). With the whole puppet part, I think MGMT is branching off from people liking them for the wrong reasons to make a general comment about society, and making the same mistakes over and over. Then the woman starts to play that song on the recorder or whatever, which encourages Ben to show his own song. There's a hole in Ben's neck which produced MGMT's more popular songs.. "Kids", "Electric Feel", etc. Its bandaged up, to represent that MGMT won't make any more mainstream songs. It was supposed to heal. Andrew is hesitating on whether or not to show any one another mainstream song from the eel, aka "Electric Feel", aka another hit song. Then Ben rips off the bandage and the 'hit song' starts to play.. and then people have "wtf" looks on their faces cause they were probably expecting the music they played in their previous album. And some other people just see the dollar signs (the military dudes who take it out of Ben's throat), by transforming their music and MGMT's image into something they didn't want. The eel, aka the song, is then put into the music business system "strange machine".As a result of that, the song becomes mainstream, and the people who wtf'd at the song before suddenly like it and are dancing to it! the fake fans of mgmt.. they just like it now cause its popular. The military people could represent MGMT's fans who just are waiting for another "Electric Eel" or "Kids" to make a big deal about. And then craziness ensues.. the flashing lights.. meaning the more fame. I think the song is called Flash Delirium because MGMT is blatantly saying they don't want to be mainstream, cause all the flash bulbs of cameras going off by people making a big deal out of them, taking pics, etc, is making them crazy. Maybe Ben was thinking about making another "Electric Feel" song, but Andrew told him of the consequences.. and told him that all this craziness would ensue, and they'd become even more famous, which isn't their goal, since there are people who just listen to their popular songs because its "hip" and won't listen to their other songs yet say they are big fans. In the video shows Ben going along with what Andrew said until he was tempted to show the song and then they literally take the life out of him.. (by taking out the eel) but he's famous! "A case of flash delirium" means they are sick of the fame! On the other hand, maybe IRL Ben feels the same way as Andrew w/ the whole thing (most likely) but they did this song to show people what would happen if they just made another "Electric Feel" and how it would drive them crazy.. they don't wanna be consumed by fame. -Suntastic
I didn’t really like “Kids” and “Time to Pretend” as much as I loved everything else in Oracular Spectacular. I wish they would’ve kept making songs like “Weekend Wars,” “Metanoia” or “ The Handshake.” They made bigger statements and deeper feelings in Oracular Spectacular by not only giving that feeling of youth and freedom, but they really made (at least) me realize how corrupt and loose society is. Plus, Andrew’s voice in Oracular Spectacular is amazing!!!
The countdown at the end...things got real...I love taking some medicine and watching things like this, makes me think. MGMT, I find them to be very relaxing. Sounds weird right?
I'm a big music fan and have listened to many, many, many albums. I can't think of a better one than Congratulations. And this has to be my favorite track on there (either that or the incredible Siberian Breaks).
Hard listen at first, grows on you though, then one day it's playing in the background while you're laying on the bed and you're like "by god this is genius"
Mild apprehension Blank dreams of the coming fun Distort the odds of a turnaround Gut screams out next to none So turn it on, tune it in And stay inert You say "I've got the backbone" The back way to escape the gun Climbing a tree with a missing limb And not saving anyone And now it hurts to stay at home And see flash the mirror ball's throwing mold You can't get a grip if there's nothing to hold See the flash catch a white lily laugh and wilt But if you must smash a glass first fill it to the hilt Plants, as far as i know are still, Still bending toward the light And if we dance Until the heart explodes It'll make this place ignite And even if this hall collapses I can stand by my pillar of hope it's just A case of Flash delirium Here's a growing culture Deep inside a corpse Ages stuck together Takin it to the source Timeless desperation Pictures on a screen scream "Hey people, what does it mean?"
Comfort keeps us nice So quick to donate everything Die wolken drifting blinding smiles circling (einkreisen) And time's tingling spines Attaching hands to floor The rosy-tinted flash The hot dog's getting cold And you'll never be as good as the Rolling Stones Watch the birds in the airport gathering dirt Crowd the clean magazine chick lifting up her skirt (Wy close one eye and try to Pledge allegiance to the sun When plastic ghosts start terrorizing everyone Geometric troops aligning Carried up to the burial mounds My earthbound heart is heavy Your heartbeat keeps things light With the violence forever threatening the night
Anyone notice the symbol on the cake? I only did because I'm a nerd who has played Binding of Isaac. In that game there's an item called brimstone which is portrayed by that symbol. After some research (5 seconds) I found that it is called the Leviathon Cross. I researched that a bit and found this (Pulled it off the internet) A symbol for the alchemical element Sulfur, (Brimstone) which is spiritually analogous to the human soul. Alchemically, sulfur has the qualities of masculine, hot and dry. Any idea why they put it on the cake?
Elp Smith Some of their videos and lyrics are so abstract that it`s difficult to draw a definite meaning. I look up most of their songs on genius to give me a better understanding. But I agree most of their songs do have a deep particular meaning.

Ever since I heard this for the first time it has never left me . Utterly flawless and unique
electric feel - 70 million views
this - 6 million
what is wrong with people, this is their best song!
this song literally sounds like a bunch of instruments being banged against each other and some random singer singing in some voice modifier
Electric feel was the best song they have ever made and probably will be the best song they ever will make
***** who said it wasn't?
+foquinha x At least it is their best video!
+foquinha x Their best song is Siberian Breaks. But you're right, this one deserves way more views.
MGMT has to be the Nirvana of the 2000's. NOBODY knows exactly what they mean, we just freaking love their music
Even if this hall collapses I can stand by my pillar of hope that this song is dope as hell
Forever my favorite MGMT song, it’s so weird and multi layered musically and lyrically, and fun and chaotic
I've watched about five MGMT videos back to back and I find myself saying "WHAT THE HELL?!" out loud after every single one.
Ahh thats how my love for this band began.
13 years later and it’s still a BOPPPP I’ve been listening to MGMT since I was 10. This video was me and my friends favorite. Creepy asf as a child.
One of their most underrated pieces of art
Mgmt for life
🤟✌️ absolutely
Any album they come up with in my opinion is incredible! I will forever support mgmt and the creativity they bring as musicians, especially since they just want to make the music they want to. We are lucky to have them !
Ugh that bass. This is one of the first videos I remember watching of MGMT and I've been hooked ever since.
i spent years looking for this video after seeing it maybe once or twice on some obscure music tv channel and the only thing i could remember from it was the part where the alien/worm thing was ripped from his throat but whenever i tried looking that up my efforts were fruitless but my sister was able to somehow find this gem of a song and i can finally rest easy now knowing it wasn’t just some hallucination i witnessed
im not exaggerating when i say this is one of the greatest songs ever
2:19 Andys like "ffs Ben i told you about this"
Their videos are always so freaking creative
andrew vanwyngarden is freaking adorable
Oh my god yes
Paige Latham agreed
As a straight man, yes as well
Paige Latham yesss haha ben too !
Andrew is *my* girlfriend
don't even think about it
I don´t think they ever wanter to be mainstream. They just love music and it seems to me like they´re happier when they play for smaller audience.
This will forever be one of my all time favorite songs💕 I love how it makes absolutely no sense.
I am so glad I found this group on RUclips tonight and also glad I was stoned when I found it. I didn't know this was the band I needed in my life.
There are only a few bands that I've had a common interest in with my friends, and MGMT was one of them. Then this came out and we lost that common interest, but I fucking love it.
were Budha and Krishna not into this song?
Jesus your friends are fucking pussies. Too worried about people's opinions of them.
nah I just think they have bad taste.
Jesus, man...
jesus looks like a girl
Es totalmente majestuosa esta pieza, no se en que tomarían inspiración para lograr una de las mejores creaciones contemporáneas pero vaya que es hermosa.
I didn't like this song when it first came out...but man, I have come around
It's amazing they made a pop song with SO many parts...and it all holds together.
MGMT do that so well...writing songs that have 4 verses, 6 choruses, and 3 bridges...all at 4 minutes long...and it somehow makes sense.
The lyrics are super psychedelic...wish I could discern the "meaning."
To me, the song's about how absurd life can seem. How it's hard to take seriously what other people seem to take VERY seriously.
God, I love this video. The shout of triumph at 2:47 is exquisite.
"You're finally mine!" lol
i jumped at that part
This song and video is a reaction to the success they had from the first album. While the first record is fantastic they didn't expect it to be so successful. They got stuck in that version of themselves as a band. In the video when Ben has the ''Electric Eel'' pulled out of his chest it for sure shows the breakaway from that fame.
lol in an interview the interviewer guy asks Andrew if this is what it’s about and he said no and how they’re not smart enough to come up with that 💀something like that
I have never encountered a band that can make such different music album to album and still rock it. You guys are truly amazing. love you guys!
Reading comments on weird videos is always fun. I like how people try to make sense of videos like this, to be honest I think that MGMT is fucking with us how they know best...
I've listened to this song hundreds of times and it seems to get better with every listen.
Actually Guys...:
The beginning of the video shows MGMT's fans who are excited that they have a new album, so its like a welcoming party.
-Suntastic
lexis Acklin this needs more likes.
Woah
I think you over interpretated this video. But I like it.
lexis Acklin that explains a lot. favourite song for a long time
I didn’t really like “Kids” and “Time to Pretend” as much as I loved everything else in Oracular Spectacular. Plus, Andrew’s voice in Oracular Spectacular is amazing!!!
its all of the words in the universe put into simple lyrics
The countdown at the end...things got real...I love taking some medicine and watching things like this, makes me think. MGMT, I find them to be very relaxing. Sounds weird right?
One of my absolute favorite songs by them
such a great tune 😊
Their best song, in my opinion.
+Jerbyson their best video
No electric feel is
It feels like an entire album in just 4 minutes! I love it!
for me its when you die
I can't decide between Flash Delirium and When You Die.
I've just discovered this band...and it is truly love at first sight💚☺
I'm a big music fan and have listened to many, many, many albums. I can't think of a better one than Congratulations. And this has to be my favorite track on there (either that or the incredible Siberian Breaks).
Siberian Breaks is so good!
I’ve been in love with Andrew since middle school and I don’t think my love for him is ever gonna go away lol
Grew up listening to MGMT this song has a special place in my heart and my best friends. It’s still a god damn good song.
00:24 how is he so damn beautiful ?!
*scrolls down for theories about the video *
They were obviously on some kind of hallucinogenic
Hey keiolani
if you'd like to talk about it send me a message :) this song and congratulations def have meaning to them.
+Keiolani Brockenbrough "Delirium"
pablo o actually they had no involvement with drugs during the creation of their songs they said it made the process "too foggy".
Also can we appreciate the shot of Andrew in the background getting choked- it's so funny funny to me lol
I had to give it a few listens to realize why so many people were saying this is one of their best songs.
Hard listen at first, grows on you though, then one day it's playing in the background while you're laying on the bed and you're like "by god this is genius"
Turn off all the lights, put some headphones on, play this song, close your eyes, and just let this song take you. It's really cool trust me.
WOW!
Thanks :D
It's even better when your stoned and then listen to it
+Harold Kumar WOW I'ven better!
Thanks A LOT!
What weed you smoking on ?
Harold Kumar lol i didnt even need to smoke weed
andrew’s hair in this is insanely gorgeous
Mild apprehension
Blank dreams of the coming fun
Distort the odds of a turnaround
Gut screams out next to none
So turn it on, tune it in
And stay inert
You say "I've got the backbone"
The back way to escape the gun
Climbing a tree with a missing limb
And not saving anyone
And now it hurts to stay at home
And see flash the mirror ball's throwing mold
You can't get a grip if there's nothing to hold
See the flash catch a white lily laugh and wilt
But if you must smash a glass first fill it to the hilt
Plants, as far as i know are still,
Still bending toward the light
And if we dance
Until the heart explodes
It'll make this place ignite
And even if this hall collapses
I can stand by my pillar of hope it's just
A case of Flash delirium
Here's a growing culture
Deep inside a corpse
Ages stuck together
Takin it to the source
Timeless desperation
Pictures on a screen scream
"Hey people, what does it mean?"
Comfort keeps us nice
So quick to donate everything
Die wolken drifting blinding smiles circling (einkreisen)
And time's tingling spines
Attaching hands to floor
The rosy-tinted flash
The hot dog's getting cold
And you'll never be as good as the Rolling Stones
Watch the birds in the airport gathering dirt
Crowd the clean magazine chick lifting up her skirt
(Wy close one eye and try to
Pledge allegiance to the sun
When plastic ghosts start terrorizing everyone
Geometric troops aligning
Carried up to the burial mounds
My earthbound heart is heavy
Your heartbeat keeps things light
With the violence forever threatening the night
mediocre memes even if this hall collapse, I can stand on a pillar of Hope and trust that our head won't Burst
This song is gold, every change of rhythm make me feel good haha
Anyone notice the symbol on the cake? I only did because I'm a nerd who has played Binding of Isaac. In that game there's an item called brimstone which is portrayed by that symbol. After some research (5 seconds) I found that it is called the Leviathon Cross. I researched that a bit and found this (Pulled it off the internet)
A symbol for the alchemical element Sulfur, (Brimstone) which is spiritually analogous to the human soul. Alchemically, sulfur has the qualities of masculine, hot and dry.
Any idea why they put it on the cake?
Brendan Bush it likely represents how they feel about the pop music industry and how selling out would be like selling there souls.
The cake is a lie
This whole album is fantastic!!!!
Do we really need more theories explaining the song/video? No matter how we interpret it, this video has a powerful meaning.
+Keira Yeah shoving an eel into a mechanical anus is very meaningful. Definitely telling us to shove electric feel up our ass.
+411yourname This is why we don't have enough philosophers. There is a deeper meaning to all of their videos.
Elp Smith Some of their videos and lyrics are so abstract that it`s difficult to draw a definite meaning. I look up most of their songs on genius to give me a better understanding. But I agree most of their songs do have a deep particular meaning.
+411yourname u made my day X'D
this song is amazing...hypnotic actually...any theories on the video? its completely bizarre but entertaining.
It's a campaign against the consumption of seafood, obviously. I mean, did you SEE how they tore the eel out of him?
el vídeo, la música TODO es increíble!
Mar del Plata 2011, what a party, thank u MGMT
You say, "I've got backbone"
The back way to escape the gun
Larga vida al Indie Psicodélico, larga vida a MGMT
I’ve literally been looking for this music video since I was 9 and saw it on The Cool TV
My favorite MGMT single with my favorite MGMT video from my favorite MGMT album. Super underrated. At least all of you know what I am talking about!

sulumsphony66 wow. that covers that.
sulumsphony66 a
