I just don't understand how people don't understand that veterans go in and do their jobs regardless of the circumstances. Half this video is just him saying how Kirk will have this mental issue for this Penix pick. Let's be real here he's a Vet who's getting paid guaranteed money and over 100mill he's not gonna have a mental block at all he's gonna go do his job and do his best for his team to win that's what a veteran does. Let's stop this whole Kirk vs Penix thing cause he's is a mature adult who will be supportive of his young man. Dude has kids he ain't gonna be some kind ass to him cause this is his job he is a vet. He will go in do his job and do his best at it and the public won't mean much to him at all. There isn't anything to worry about regarding him and Penix.

    • @morsumbra9692
      @morsumbra9692 Месяц назад +19

Cuz its more than just Kirk mental status. Its about the locker room situation and collective mental status. And that's what really messes with everyone.
When you're use to being the focus of every room you walk into at work. But when there's TWO good QB options you'll have some teammates back one guy due to play or personality than another.
I see it all the time in project management, site managers that build the site always get prickly when the permanent tenants are moving in but haven't taken over yet.
I see it all the time in my rugby club I coach. A young gun who's the star of the team. Then a new baller comes onto the squad. And there's always some growing pains of having the team and them accept one another.

Also Kirk is a vet he will have the leadership in that locker room also their head coach is a very good players coach they love him and will root behind whatever decision he makes. In any case this is being blown away more than many people are making it out to be. Kirk will handle himself like a vet and the players will rally behind that vet which the players have said they are ready for him to lead. When they get to Penix they'll be ready but this coaching staff will keep everything where it needs to be especially with Raheem. This isn't a situation where it's gonna affect the locker room. The falcons GM wouldn't have made that pick if he thought it would ruin the team. Penix hasn't proven himself while Kirk has. Penix will definitely sit and listen and watch. Going from bad qb play to good is could be the difference in them winning 3-4 games this year. It also gives Penix a chance to learn from a proven vet. No one is breaking this down correctly. Here is what we know:
The Falcons have a young core capable of winning now.
That young core has not experienced a winning season in the NFL.
The team has suffered terribly the past few years from subpar QB play.
    Arthur Blank is grumpy.
    Here are the possible scenarios:
    1. They sign Cousins and draft anybody but Penix. Has their QB play improved? Definitely. Are they in position to win the division and maybe a playoff game? Probably. Do they take the NFC, even with Rome Odunze or some rookie edge? Extremely unlikely. Does their young core learn how to win from a stabilizing, experienced veteran? Almost certainly. If Cousins gets hurt, do they have a prayer of winning anything this year? No. Where are they in two years? No QB, drafting towards the bottom of the first round and entering quarterback purgatory and league irrelevance. Again.
    2. They bolster their defense instead of signing Cousins and draft Penix to start Day 1. They've thrown a rookie QB in with a bunch of great skill players, all of whom are under 25. Do you get winning results? It's anybody's guess, but what is clear is no one on the offensive side of the ball knows how to win in the NFL. In two years, hopefully you're in a good place.
    3. They sign somebody like Gardner Minschew or Jacoby Brisset and draft Penix to sit a year. Does their QB play improve? Probably a little. Can they win the division and possibly a playoff game? Maybe, maybe not. They most likely tread water somewhere in the bottom half of the league while continuing to squander their young studs and pray Arthur Blank doesn't die in the midst of an eight year losing streak. Hopefully, after the funeral, Penix takes them to the promised land.
    4. Sign Cousins, draft Penix. They bring in a top 10-15 QB, a consummate pro who can mentor Penix, teach the kids how to win and give the organization its best chance to maximize the current window (again, highly unlikely any other rookie is going to catapult them into February games). If Cousins gets hurt, they still have a fighting chance with the rookie Penix. Once Cousins leaves town in 2-3 years, the team now knows how to win, has a groomed QB ready to storm the league, and is hopefully set for the next decade. Best case now, best case in the future. What's so hard to understand?
One final thought about the brilliant Packers and the Jordan Love draft. The cheesehead's choice was a much bigger fumble than the Falcons' selection of Penix. As often noted, the Packers were 13-3 the previous year and playing for the conference championship. They were legitimately one impact player away from the Superbowl. Instead, they took a QB who sat for four years and slammed shut their own wide-open Superbowl window. And they're the great geniuses how???

The Cousins/Penix debate does prove one thing: All too many sports analysis have absolutely no appreciation of strategic planning.
"If the Falcons were going to draft Penix, why sign Cousins? And vice-versa." The fact is, the Falcons DIDN'T know they were going to pick Penix. Michael Penix was on the radar of a number of other teams and was beginning to be seen as undervalued; it was probable that Penix would not be on the board at #8. That the Falcons needed an upgrade in QB was painfully apparent to all. Cousins was easily the best free-agent QB available after the 2023 season, so the Falcons signed him, paying a ton of money.
Cousins has his own issues. I am convinced that if the Falcons decided to live or die with Cousins most of the critics of the Penix selection would be clucking about that.

It is the fact that they are likely to have winning seasons for the next two years with Kirk that they pulled the trigger on his future replacement. If they are drafting in the lower 3rd of the draft the next two/three season, it will cost them a ton to move back up into a top 10 position to get a "franchise QB" later. No one expected Kirk to actually see his full contract, I am pretty sure even he understood that he is not the future of the team. I completely agree that the Falcons could sweep the south and win it. I dont think they will but they can. I dont see the Penix pick is a bad one at all. For that reason. He is already as good ( projection) as the rest of the Division's other QBs. So this gives them a progression and a reality that Kirk could not be ready, could mess up, and/or gets old then this is the right pick period. This is a smart pick. They already compete and the only down side is that the owner could get antsy and fire the coach and gm but you still have a young qb to get you to a better qb class. And you dont have to pay 40- 50 for Penix, you can do a Jordan love extension.

I think you made a vid last year about how important having a good backup qb is. Kirk had a non contact Achilles injury last year. Odunze would’ve been cool but you went boujee with a top 5 pick on Pitts 2 years ago. You’re 1 Cousins non contact injury away from being stuck with no one to throw Kyle Pitts or Odunze the ball just like last year. Penix played a ton of high level college football, he can win you a few to save a season while cousins is out. Id sacrifice Caleb Williams prolific arm talent for Penix’s toughness, timing and accuracy. He throws picks when he misses defenders, not when he misses throws like Williams. So many franchises would kill to have their franchise guy at qb for next year alone, looking for a qb is a carousel teams have to get back on eventually. You’d pass on him just cause he only buys you 5-6 years off the carousel as an older draft pick, rather than 8-10.

If Kirk was signed to under 100 million then nobody would really have a problem too much but when you allocate that much money into 1 player especially the QB position
It just dosnt make sense to be so called in Win Now Mode and draft a rookie QB who won't contribute this season atleast that's the idea
But also Kirk is a middle of the pack QB, he's had great weapons in Minnesota having a top 3 WR with JJ and still couldn't win shit.

I don’t hate the signing Kirk, and Kirk getting a lucrative contract. He’s a productive QB at best and a game manager at worst. Not a bad guy to have on the team.
I don’t hate them taking a rookie QB to learn under him either. That’s the best spot for a lot of guys, gives them time to develop and grow.
I don’t hate them taking an older QB in the draft. Guys that have extra college experience can come in more mature and have built in leadership qualities that youth doesn’t always bring.
I don’t hate them for drafting Michael Penix Jr., they don’t think they will be in a position to take a franchise quarterback in the near future, and rather than drafting for need they drafted for the best player available to them (on their board). That is a move that Brad Holmes, the GM of my favorite team the Lions, has been doing since he came here. Don’t draft for need, draft talent.
BUT. What I hate is that all of those things do not work together. Them signing Kirk to a 4 year contract and then drafting a generational talent who is only 20 is reasonable. Them not signing Kirk, and then drafting Michael Penix Jr. to sit behind a journeyman for a year or two like Tyrod Taylor or Andy Dalton is reasonable.
But you’re giving Kirk a TON of guaranteed money to be a four year starter AND taking a player who will be 28 years old by the time he might start, AND gave up building your team, AND have two QBs with a scary injury history? That’s just not thinking things through. It’s not like they signed Kirk before their season was over and their draft pick was set. They KNEW they would be in a position to at the VERY least trade up to get Penix, but now they are going to be dealing with Kirk having doubts about his future with the team AND may be facing fucking tampering charges and losing draft picks (the Dolphins lost a fucking first for the Tom Brady thing) in the future all to fuck up your already rebuilding team?!?!!!? There’s 4-D chess and then there is whatever the fuck these guys are smoking.

I have also written that, despite what will no doubt be a cooperative, can-do attitude from Kirk about this selection, he's GOT to be secretly pissed, thinking about what ATL COULD have picked instead of Penix. I don’t “hate” the Penix pick, for me it’s the combo of him and Cousins that I don’t like. If the Falcons were dead set on Penix, they should have never signed Kirk. Instead sign someone like Minshew or Joe Flacco, who would be far cheaper and at least competent. And then spend the remaining money on a pass rusher, or a receiver, or whatever makes your team better. Or, in signing Cousins, give him another weapon with Odunze. Or draft Dallas Turner or Latu. Or trade down to get more picks. It’s just a terrible choice strategically.

He's a pro, he's going to act like it no matter who we drafted because that's his job. Second of all, it's pretty easy to name all the amazing QBs who sat for a year or two before becoming the starter. We picked a successor QB - crazy idea I know. NFL teams have only been doing it since the beginning of the modern passing game. Let's say we still had Matt Ryan under contract and were paying him about the same price as Kirk at the same age. We would still be taking Penix. Obviously, if Cousins misses any time AT ALL in the next two years and Penix steps in and does well, this pick will be considered genius. You had an MVP upper room of the HoF who was one weapon away from the Super Bowl. That made taking a luxury item an absolute travesty. The equity didn’t mean he could handle the new back up, it meant GB OWED him more than failing to provide him an elite weapon for yet another season. The falcons owe nothing to cousins and this is a 2 year deal. They NEED a plan for the years after they release cousins. Does that mean I absolutely agree w their rational taking Penix, no. But do I agree w the view that Rogers wasn’t treated more poorly by GB and that the pick wasn’t more disruptive to their relationship is just wrong.

As a Falcons fan, I'm okay with the Penix pick, but I did question giving Kirk $100M guaranteed to just be a bridge QB for two seasons. The biggest issue I have with Terry Fontenot is neglecting the corner position and not signing an edge in free agency. CB2 is a significant need and Fontenot sat on his hands and didn't take a corner when there were plenty on the board. While he drafted three players on the DL we still lost significant contributions like Dupree and Campbell without proper replacements. Fontenot whiffed on trading for Montez Sweat and again missed on adding a pass rusher in free agency. My biggest problem with Terry Fontenot in his four seasons as GM is him treating the defense as an afterthought in comparison to drafting Kyle Pitts while good wasn't a need in 2021. I hope he proves me wrong but Terry Fontenot doesn't deserve to be a GM.

Kirk will be fine. Penix will be fine. Quit making something out of nothing

God bless! Jesus Christ is King and saves and is the way! Psalms 62 - "Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken." Jeremiah 29:11 - "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

All this post draft talk is nonsense. We wont know if the picks are good or not till 2 years after the draft.

Atlanta falcons gave minnesota so much by taking kirk away. Much love ❤️

Every year people say the Falcons could win the NFC South and every year they prove y'all dead wrong 😂😂😂
Like you said, they haven't been in the playoffs in 6 years and the most they won in a seasonin that span is 7 wins despite being constantly stacked on paper. Combine that with the bone-headed decisions they've made in the off-season and it just leaves me confused how someone could say that they'll win a weak division that they've already shown MULTIPLE TIMES that they can't win

Not sure how this whole narrative of Penix having this incredibly strong arm got started, but Penix, McCarthy, Williams and Rattler all have good but not elite arm strength and that's when Penix's footwork and throwing mechanics are fundamentally sound. When he's throwing off of his back foot and using a side armed delivery, his passes either sail or don't have a lot on them. His arm is nowhere near as strong as Milton's, who's the only quarterback in this draft class, with a cannon for an arm.

I don't know what films you've been watching but he's the most accurate passer by far in the draft
