The funeral has taken place in Ireland of Edward O'Brien, the Irish Republican Army (I-R-A) member who blew himself up with a bomb on a bus in London.
Tight security was in place in O'Brien's hometown of Gorey in County Wexford to prevent any paramilitary groups attending the burial.
The funeral took place as British Prime Minister John Major and his Irish counterpart John Bruton met in London in an attempt to revive the stalled peace process.
The picturesque town of Gorey in County Wexford. Ten days after Edward O'Brien's death the townsfolk are still trying to come to terms with the failed bomber who lived among them.
O'Brien, described as an I-R-A rookie, died instantly when a device he was transporting went off accidentally on a bus in central London. Nine other people were injured in the blast.
But some local people see some good having emerged from the tragedy.
    SOUNDBITE: (English)
"Perhaps the world will see that ninety-nine point nine-nine per cent of Irish people totally condemn the activities of the I-R-A, and Gorey would be a little microcosm of that feeling that exists throughout Ireland."
    SUPERCAPTION: Kevin Lacey, Local Businessman
The incident has also stirred many dormant feelings.
    SOUNDBITE: (English)
"I think it has opened our eyes to what exactly is going on in this country of ours. I think we have been guilty of complacency."
    SUPERCAPTION: Shaun Halford, Local Businessman
Relatives and friends say O'Brien was an unlikely I-R-A recruit, but others have sought an explanation.
    SOUNDBITE: (English)
"I guess that a young and nineteen-year-old is obviously impressionable, possibly vulnerable too, because you're pretty lonely, you feel very alone, you feel in a different culture going to a large city like London. I guess the sort of person who would have been spotted and targetted, befriended, fed a propaganda line, made to feel important by the I-R-A, I'd say it was a classic case of a very ordinary kid being dragged into the sordid depraved world of terrorism."
SUPERCAPTION: Father Walter Forde, Parish Priest
As the bells peeled the mourners entered the Church.
Around seven hundred townspeople looked on, some overcome with sadness at the waste of a young man's life.
O'Brien's weeping family followed the casket as it was wheeled out of the Church to begin the journey to its final resting place.
The cortege led a procession of around two thousand people through the streets of Gorey towards the cemetery.
There O'Brien's coffin was lowered into the ground.
His parents Miley and Margo, sister Lorraine and brother Gary, wept at the head of the grave as they threw in roses as a final mark of respect for the young man who met a violent death, ironically meant for others.

We as England value our sovereignty and no longer will we be subjugated by the E.U.
We collectively of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have declared our intent on becoming E.U. Member States. Cheerio.
England- That’s not the type of sovereignty we were referring.

Poor kid. Exploited by evil individuals who do not represent the good Irish people. RIP, Edward.

Ed was not exploited. He volunteered to join the IRA. He volunteered to go to England. He knew what he signed himself up for and if he didn’t, the provos would’ve made it clear to him upon joining.
