- I've found the best ipad pro screen cover for drawing in the world!
I've tried nearly every ipad pro screen cover for drawing out there, and here's why Rock Paper Pencil is the current champ!

Hey, D.J. I just got my Rock Paper Pencil. Does Astropad know you're doing The Lord's work? It's solidly the best matte I have ever drawn on. Thanks for the tip!
Hah! Glad you like it! I reckon they are aware
Your review was 100% accurate. I haven’t taken it off my iPad off since Christmas. The Astropad cover and tip are totally worth it. It has helped me with my lines and shading.
I also used many Matte Covers including Paperlike. I hadn't tried the PenTips one but bought the RPS cover and it's amazing. I have another iPad I use mostly for reading, but bought another RPS cover for it and got another Apple Pencil to use it for drawing on the go as my main iPad is in a Sketchboard Pro Stand in kind of permanent situation.
Thank you for the review I have a magnetic Pen Tips cover and is kinda scratched and my pencil tip was wearing off but it was working well and I liked it, might try this!
Glad I could help!
I want one now!!! Gotta get on it and order! Thanks for the review!
Is this good for handwriting notes also?
Do you have an update on this after 3 months? Is it still working?
Thank you.
Would love to hear about this too, +1:)
Damn, I ordered the 12.9" PenTips cover based on your review only 5 days ago. It has been shipped. Now, I just discovered this review (RUclips served it in my feed)... Guess I'll use the PenTips cover for a while and if I like it, I'll order an astropod cover... Thanks for your honest reviews! 👏
I saw that Pentips have a set called ink n paper which has the magnetic screen protector you tested and comes with a ballpoint style pencil tip which looks similar to this one just wondering how they compare if you’ve tested at all, cheers 🙂
Posting to request a possible review of this. Pentips cover with their "ink" tips
i have been eyeing this for a while and think i will try it! thank you for this review!
Hope you like it!
Great review. I had my order placed before the video ended.
I can’t draw a lick but wanted to improve the note taking on my iPad mini. I first tried Paperlike but while it works well I did not get the application quite right and there was a bubble or two showing underneath. The Rock, paper, pencil product is much, much easier to apply and it is reusable. The metal pen tip seems like a must to pair with the protector. My experience has been a good one. I must say that for longer note taking, the various e-ink devices on the market are preferable; however, RPP is a very good product for use on the iPad. No doubt, Apple may have some ideas of how to improve the pencil experience on the iPad going forward but until then, RPP is a go in my opinion.
Yes it’s great for writing
Niiice. Gonna have to cop this. Since I upgraded to my iPad pro. I didn't get a new screen protector. Thanks for the review.
Awesome! Come back and let me know what you think!
Thanks for the review. I recently upgraded to the 11 inch pro and haven't gotten a screen protector. I always mess something up like dust or hair getting under the protector. This seems like my answer. Also been needing a new tip so this is worth it to try. My birthday is in 12 days so I'm gonna ask my fiancé for it lmao
It’s a great gift’
Would love an over time review 😇❤
Adding to Christmas list !❤
Sold! I'm gonna try it. I also love to geek out about art supplies. I have a dragon's hoard of them.
Don’t we all! 😂 this one is a keeper!
Thanks for the review! Have you noticed the tip wear down at all when using it over a few weeks? I’m on the fence about getting one and saw another reviewer mention their metal tips were wearing down after a month so I’m curious about your experience and if you’ve observed the same thing. Great video!
I have not noticed any top wear down as of yet!

Cool! I’ve had paperlike before and was pretty satisfied but I moved onto the pentips magnetic one… I will def get this astropad one - I’m curious about that metal tip! Thanks for the tip DJ! - Pun intended 😂😳👍
Let me know what you think when you get it!
Thanks for your review, I agree with everything you said, but I think my biggest surprise feature was the clarity of the screen protector. I have PaperLike on another iPad, and I couldn't get past the visual noise of the matte protector. I was very impressed with Rock, Paper Scissor's clarity. Thanks again, God bless:-)
Glad this was helpful. I agree!
Magnetic cover great idea
Now PenTips has a metal nib. Wonder how that combo compares to Rock Paper Pencil
Rock paper comes with metal nib as well
THanks. Just ordered one.
Thank you for the review.
You mentioned the good color rendering with the PenTips screen protector. What about this one ?
Yes I’m coloring daily on it. Works great
dig.
On the PenTips screen cover review you mentioned the screen still had a good colour detail as compared to other screen covers. How does the Astropad one compare to the PenTips one from that perspective?
i wanna know this too
It's very clear on Astropad, very similar to PenTips.
Cool video, and a well-done review. I have an odd unrelated ask though: What's the small object off your right elbow that has a fire ring and occasional puff of something?
It’s a volcano humidifier , I don’t know the name brand but just search that on Amazon and a bunch come up 🤘🏻🌋
So, for a multipurpose iPad, drawing and photo review, should you use a “permanent” regular tempered glass screen protector first, then just snap the astopad on when it’s time to draw? Would a double layer affect the pencil feel or line control? Or does the Astro pad have to go directly on the bare screen?
I wouldn’t double layer. I would guess it would affect the Apple Pencil
Looks awesome ! Do you know something cool to clean the glass screen of the ipad?
Id is just a lightly damp microfiber cloth and then dry with another microfiber cloth. NerdWax has a decent screen cleaner too for glasses and screens
Bellemond made in Japan £8.99 for a 20/21/22 12.9 4th gen…. Can’t honestly beat it.
I just tried the Kent paper version…it’s 15.99 for the same generations and even better than the normal paper version bellemond have. Avoid the magnetic one.
Hi DJ - I'm ordering an IPad Pro and am searching for the right screen protector. Your review was helpful. After a couple of months of use now, how would assess the wear on the screen and the pencil tip?

How about to use it under any glass cover protector?
did it wear down the original pen tip over time? im scared of using the metal tip in case it scratches the protector and ipad screen
It did end up scratching the cover over time but not the screen - still a great product! I preferred the metal tip for use on it
great review thanks.. how does it it compare to the PenTips Ink'n Paper which is essentially an identical setup?
It’s very similar. If not a bit rougher than the pentips
Would you say it's good for students? I take a lot of notes and my pencil tips wear out so fast! I'm not a fan of the metal tips so I'd just be using the plastic ones.
For sure!
Would you combine this with tempered glass? Like... have the glass to protect the iPad screen, but then use this as both additional protection but also as a paper feel?
No need to have more than one cover
@@DJCoffman I ended up doing both! Didn’t like the RPPencil cover for watching videos or doing stuff with my fingers, but was concerned about the screen if I took off the cover… so now when I remember the RPPencil cover it still has something protecting the screen.
Why did I have to find this right after buying a screen protector
Devo comprar este no lugar do paperlike, de certeza!
Do you have a glass screen protector under the magnetic one? If theres dust between the magnetic protector and the ipad screen can the pressure of the pen “squish” the dust or sand particles and scratch the ipad screen?
Thanks for your video im really inclined to buy this paper screen protector.
I do not have double protector - it seems unnecessary
How does this work with writing? I'm looking for a product to use when I am writing on Goodnotes. Thank you.
I do alot of lettering and writing in my comics. Works great!
How long did you use it for? I saw another review recently about this product and he said it only lasted him about a month. It was still usable after a month but it just had a lot of scratches and he draws for like 8 hours a day. So I'm sure it would last longer if you drew way less than that
I draw for about 10-12 hours a day on mine. I did finally have to replace it after I got some scratches. One thing to note is there is a 1 year warranty as well. The version 2 they just put out I didn’t have a great experience but they replaced the defect right away.
@@DJCoffman yeah just got v2 in the mail a week ago pretty good so far.good to know about the warranty. Could imagine spending this much on a screen protector every 2 months
awesome! how did you do that color fill?
Drag the colored bubble to the canvas. You can hold it down and slide across the ipad to change the threshold.
Thanks for lettin them know
Any idea why this screen protector makes my lines wobbly? Went away immediately after I took it off
Nice video
Thanks
could you take it on and off everyday ?
Yep, I take it off and on occassionally, but mostly it stays on.
Does this work with a Samsung Galaxy S9 FE+ and a S pen?
Its just for iPad
Is it hard to apply?
Not hard at all! Snaps right on with magnets!
Have you had any issues with the pen tips, so far? This RUclipsr said he's worn both of his tips within a month, and they started scratching his protector. 😳
ruclips.net/video/9vjZ3vx6_WM/видео.htmlsi=OHWz9qJ2U9thTmN3
I've been using it no-stop since before this video came out and I don't have that problem.
I have been using metal tips and a matte screen protector for a couple years now and I found that adjusting the pressure curve in your software with help a lot. I have my settings set so that I only have to apply a very small amount of pressure to draw. It is better on my wrist too. I have never had a problem with scratches since then.
This product is not good. I returned it after one day. But, then, I haven't liked any of the other screen covers either. I have responses on other videos that explain why it isn't good.
What is it you're looking for specifically if you're not happy with any? And can you say which one you are happy with and why? Just curious!
@@DJCoffman Too much of a gap between the protector and the screen. The texture is bad. It's gets dust and hair between the protector and the screen. It's expensive! You have to press harder than normal for strokes to register. I have not found one that I like better than the regular iPad glass.
@@timz9862 Thanks for your opinion on this.
@@timz9862What app are you using? I used to wear out my pencil tip and screen protectors a lot till I learned how to adjust the pressure curve in Procreate. You can do this in Art Studio Pro and CSP as well. I have it up real high so I only have to press very lightly with my pencil to draw. If you haven’t tried this I would highly recommend it.
