Shatner's assumption is most likely correct. When my father was dying, he didn't want to see anyone but immediate family. He sent his best friend off rather unceremoniously. It must be a perspective people have when they know they have limited time and energy. A good friend of mine died recently of cancer, I knew him for 34 years, and he never told me he was terminal. He just got distant and didn't really communicate. I'm sure chatting with friends was draining, and he didn't want sympathy. So, I don't think Nimoy had a falling out and kept it secret. He was slowly fading.

To be honest it doesn’t actually make sense what went down.
It does appear to be jealousy.
Because Leonard Nimoy and Deforest Kelley did get along with him, and they were both as successful as him.
And Shatner has never said anything negative about his cast members. I guess though he may have been a bit of an in-your-face kind of guy and may have gotten a bit too carried away a bit with his shenanigans which may have annoyed his cast members. But sometimes there are times he looks pretty insecure, so he may just have a low self-esteem. Which might explain his cockiness.

I think it's down to them not wanting to be seen as frail and to keep some sense of dignity before death. There needs to be more sociological and psychological research into this pattern of behaviour, which actually also occurs throughout the mammalian kingdom too (so it's not species-specific behaviour).

Shatner then had his camera crew record Nimoy at a convention, and used the footage in the documentary without Nimoy's knowledge. That's reportedly why Nimoy was angry. This has been discussed publicly before, and for Shatner to say now that he doesn't know why Nimoy was angry, or even acknowledge the possibility, seems rather disingenuous.

Driving is one true freedom in SoCal. When I finally got him on the phone (close to the end), he told me (gently) that he wasn't seeing any old friends--just two of his grandchildren who lived with him when they were growing up. We said our sincere goodbyes and I thanked him for all the things he taught me. We didn't drag it out--we just ended by saying "I'll see you around..." I think the world of william shattner, but him going into space against naysayers makes me like him even more. Hes the first Astronaut in science fiction (that i know of) that actually fulfilled the dream to actually leave our world as a legitimate Astronaut. Was safely returned to earth to tell an iconic experience. However I've stepped back and watched the world's behavior at large. And, I've seen a trend, almost an alarming trend towards being cynical, and drama. Being dramatic today , and it being out of control is impacting our society on a coast to coast scale. That's why there's little peace . I'm not trying to be a psychohistorian, etc. I'm just an observer.

I'm not a fan of oligarch-run space programs but given that people were either buying seats or being picked and chosen, I'm glad Shatner went. For what all people have to say about him, he is perceptive, reflective, and expressive and indeed, he has had a lot to say about his trip and what it meant to him. Through his work he inspired a great many people to contemplate spaceflight and also did much to illustrate the human condition onscreen.
