I love how in both movies, Bill never raises his voice even though there are times when he is clearly furious or upset. Not even once. What a masterful quality to have in a fictional character.
The Red Mage I’ll explain.... Superman cares very deeply for humans, and Clark Kent is an enormous part of his personality, if not the majority . 1) he was raised by human parents whom he loved and instilled him with basically rural Christian values of self control and helping others. 2) he is in love with a human 3) he dedicates his life to saving humans and even becomes distressed when he can’t help more. 4) The most damning evidence that Superman considers himself in LARGE part as Clark Kent.... and that is that deep down, it’s clear he wants Louis to fall in love with Clark instead of Superman. Why would he ever want that if Clark is just his fake alter ego? The reason he acts like a bumbling, incompetent fool is NOT because that is how he thinks of humans. His act is clearly a result of the fact that his entire disguise is a pair of glasses and a slightly different part in his hair. He obviously made the decision that he had to “put it on extra thick”, for everyone to completely dismiss the possibility that this guy who looks exactly like Superman, might actually be him. So, although cute and funny at first.... I find his monologue to be entirely off base....but I could be wrong🤷🏻♂️
For me, David Carradine is completely irreplaceable. His performance and his figure is something else. His, was an enormous loss and we will never get this quality of acting again. Sean Connery, Christopher Lee, Marlon Brando, Al Pacino and Robert De Niro are also in the same category.
Tarantino always has interesting dialogue. In a whay, glad this was David Carradine's swan song. He nailed this role good before he died. Went out (at least professionally) on a hi note.
He made 239 movies with 9 released after his death. That is just how much he hustled, he probably never got a stunning payday for any movie but he worked all the way up to the end. Also if you can ever find a picture of him shirtless he has cool ink.

i believe he hits kinda spot on, on the superhero part.. a alien from outerspace comes to this world to blend in knowing well enough he isnt one of them. his costume is clark kent. usually in comics its the person being the hero. dressing up as the hero, spiderman,batman etc. this just explains that superman being unique that his "costume" is a wimpy news reporter that doesnt know much but what he does. i dont know.. to me this makes sense.

I think most miss out on how Tarantino made Bill intentionally wrong. Superman is Clark Kent. He was raised as Clark, he grew up on a farm outside of Smallville with Ma and Pa Kent. At the end of the day, if Superman's powers were to disappear, he would still function as Clark Kent because that's how he grew up and has lived a good chunk of his life despite having godly powers. Sure, the Clark persona is exaggerated to keep folks off his back, but he still functions. Bill's mistaken assessment of Superman is in line with the Bride's. He doesn't understand that both Supes and the Bride are more than their persona. The Bride chose being a mother and will probably function just fine as one despite having a strong killer instinct.
He is equally wrong about Batman being Bruce Wayne. Bruce Wayne died when his parents were murdered. Batman is his true identity now and Bruce Wayne is just a hollow facade.
I think the reality is that regardless of the person in question you can't just put someone in one singular bubble. People are apart of a spectrum of labels. A person isn't just a drunk, isn't just a liar, isn't just a killer. They might drink, lie or kill but that's not just what they are, and most certainly shouldn't be how they are defined.
Actually Superman is Kal-El. He is blessed from birth with his powers when under a yellow sun. Clark Kent is the disguise he wears to blend in. Superman is the disguise he wears to help people without having to worry about someone finding who his loved ones are and putting them in danger. If he is just one of these characters then he is Kal-El. The persona that he rarely shows to anyone. I consider him to be all three.

People are completely missing the point Bill was making... Superman’s destiny was to be Superman, not Clark Kent. Superman uses the Clark Kent alter ego to blend in with society and its somewhat his perception of humanity. Bruce Wayne’s created the alter ego Batman because it’s who he wants humanity to be: brave, bold, righteous but he only essentially does things at night because of the darkness that’s within him and humanity. Beatrix’s destiny was to be a killer which is why she was so great at it but she created he alter ego Arlene to blend in with society just like how Superman created Clark Kent. Yes Clark Kent was the name given to him by Joe and Martha but they gave him the name, not the identity. He could’ve been Clark Kent the movie star, president, billionaire but he CHOSE to be a bumbling, cowardly, weak willed journalist just like Beatrix could’ve used to skills to became a mob boss, takeover the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad or anything else but she chose to be some typical random housewife

The most memorable speech from Carradine portrayed as Bill. How he, as a sadist and a masochist, twisted "human mythology" from the moral underlying narrative and switching the perspective into psychological pathology was just so cold and manipulative, trying to ram a psychological screw into Beatrix's head with the idea that she can never change as a malevolent killer. But ironically, that dialogue could also be Beatrix's conscious awakening of her own murderous ego and from that, awareness of the choice she can make with her life - which is what she wanted, but clearly not for Bill to which I suspect for his own psychopathic, sadistic and masochistic intentions.
Clark Kent is who we are Kal el is who he is Superman is who we can be. he does see us as weak, but he embodies our potential as superman, he just has the strength to do it. its just that the writers take that literately and make him op. kal el's weakness is kryptonite, Supermans weakness is arguably his integrity, his inability to break the rules, morality and standards he sets for us all, including himself and this allows physically weak villains to exploit him.
I think Batman is more applicable. Earth is a tragic story. Batman/Bruce Wayne turned that tragic story into a heroic one. Like we can; if we try hard enough and never give up.
The Justice League was that example that Jor-El predicted. In every variation of Jor-El's talk with his son, it all says the same. That Humans will eventually be capable of the same strengths, smarts and ideals, because it's those traits that made Superman who he is, not his powers. That one day even the most ordinary of humans among most beings that have graced Earth in DC for better or worse would join him and continue the cycle of idealism. Without Superman: The core members of the Justice League even in their solo careers would still work in the shadows, instead of stepping out into the sun with him. Without the Justice League there'd be no Teen Titans, nor if not for TT there'd be no Young Justice. Just by example alone Superman has helped create 3 generations of heroes not even counting the subgroups in their wake like Outsiders and Titans East. And without them all, Humanity itself wouldn't step out with them. It's so powerful, that Superman's presence alone is enough for the people to stand behind him. This was what Jor-El predicted.
I agree. And I think Hugh Laurie modeled his voice after Caradine when creating his character on House. The way he talks, phrases words and sentences in an American accent is pure Carradine.

Now and again he fight's super beings like Doomsday or Darkseid but pain is a foreign concept to him and he doesn't understand what a large driving motivator it is day to day. In the original back story Clark Kent discovers his alien heritage and spends over a decade learning from the knowledge his father left him, this is the period where Superman's persona came about and Clark Kent was changed, during his youth Clark Kent thought he was a human who was simply gifted and acted in his usual manner at the time, but after the revelation and studying Superman became his true persona and Clark Kent was left as a mask for him to mold into something that would divert the eyes of people from who he really is all the while he hides among humans. The idea that Clark Kent is the true persona and that Superman is just a role he plays is very recent (90s forward) but it doesn't change the fact that Clark Kent is persona that hides his face with glasses he doesn't need, applies a hair style he doesn't like and has a posture and mannerism he never had before he became Superman. To this day Superman is the persona that shows to the world how he really is, full face revealed, standing up right, speaking clearly and confidently. No matter how much anyone says Clark Kent in the real persona the fact remains that Clark Kent is the guy who is hiding something.

Tarantino's dialog has a tendency to draw you in. Even though I came her just for this one clip, by the end I wanted to keep on going to the next scene. Not uncommon when I see these clips online.
this speech was always sort of off. Superman's lived his entire life, brought up by decent people. This assessment that superman looks down on humanity as weaklings would be true if he was raised by some asshole. Clark Kent as a reporter varies from adaptation. sometimes he acts like a coward, like in the movies to downplay suspicions that he is superman, other times he is pretty reserved, choosing to settle things with diplomacy or intellect like in the DCAU continuity, but this doesn't mean Clark Kent is some guise for superman. Superman is a guise for Clark Kent to exorcise his superpowers to help people without being some 24/7 protector. To say superman has respect for humanity is an understatement, it would be more accurate to say that he sees himself as human more than a kryptonian. He's an Orc raised by High elves, Tarzan raised by apes, Mowgli raised by wolves, Worf raised by Terrans. He will yearn for that native side and want to dip into where he came from, but ultimately he'd more than likely turn down Kryptonian Cuisine for a Chili cheeseburger and a tall frosty shake from some Smallville diner
I think superman understands dying and pain perfectly fine. He's been weakened by various types of kryptonite many times, and he's taken Kara to train under a red sun where they have no powers. He is also not immortal, though he might live 200-300 years. He's felt emotional pain many times too.
Not at all. Bill's speech is actually a terrible representation of what Superman really is. People here have pointed out that he's most likely talking about Pre Crisis, but that's an outdated version of him that most people write off nowadays. Anyway, there are different takes on what Superman really is and how much of each aspect is truly more dominant, but Bill's take on him is one that I think most would disagree with. He essentially made Superman view us as weak/meak, but that's not true at all. In my favorite take (Greg Pak's run), Clark was very much a man of the people and saw himself as a human. Even SNyder got that right in MOS by saying Clark was a battle of Nature vs Nurture, where nurture won.

Jesus christ at first I tought this film was crap and never wanted to watch it, but watching peace by peace on youtube I became more interested on watching it and even think it is a good movie, not because of the fighthing and killing scenes but how the characters are developed over the film.
Poor Beatrix, it's not enough that she had to suffer being shot in her thigh, with a drug induced dart(Sodium Pentothal - enhanced), but she also had to listen & endure Bill's long winded nerd alert lecture, on the complex comic book mythology on 'the man of steel' & the analogy between herself & Superman - at the SAME TIME! She was probably thinking, midway through his spiel - " JUST SHOOT ME IN THE HEAD, WITH A STANDARD GUN - AND GET IT RIGHT THIS TIME!!!"
this is probably my favorite series of lines in Kill Bill; Bill's Superman monologue is a very intelligent and well-put-together comment on the philosophy of Superman and of super heroes in general.

As you know, l’m quite keen on comic books. Especially the ones about superheroes. I find the whole mythology surrounding superheroes fascinating. Take my favorite superhero, Superman. Not a great comic book, not particularly well-drawn, but the mythology. The mythology is not only great, it’s unique…Now, a staple of the superhero mythology is, there’s the superhero and there’s the alter ego. Batman is actually Bruce Wayne, Spider-Man is actually Peter Parker. When that character wakes up in the morning, he’s Peter Parker. He has to put on a costume to become Spider-Man. And it is in that characteristic Superman stands alone. Superman didn’t become Superman. Superman was born Superman. When Superman wakes up in the morning, he’s Superman. His alter ego is Clark Kent. His outfit with the big red “S”, that’s the blanket he was wrapped in as a baby when the Kents found him. Those are his clothes. What Kent wears - the glasses, the business suit - that’s the costume. That’s the costume Superman wears to blend in with us. Clark Kent is how Superman views us. And what are the characteristics of Clark Kent? He’s weak, he’s unsure of himself, he’s a coward. Clark Kent is Superman’s critique on the whole human race. Sorta like Beatrix Kiddo and Mrs. Tommy Plympton…You would’ve worn the costume of Arlene Plympton. But you were born Beatrix Kiddo. And every morning when you woke up, you’d still be Beatrix Kiddo…I’m calling you a killer. A natural born killer. You always have been, and you always will be. Moving to El Paso, working in a used record store, goin’ to the movies with Tommy, clipping coupons. That’s you, trying to disguise yourself as a worker bee. That’s you tryin’ to blend in with the hive. But you’re not a worker bee. You’re a renegade killer bee. I like this idea however you have to also remember that clark kent is also a model citizen, honest, respectful, honorable, loyal and righteous. I can't really consider clark weak because he's unlike a majority of the croocked villians he fights against. Many villians give into thier weaknesses and become that which they are scarred by (they were abused in life so they abuse others for example).

Here's a point I haven't seen brought up, everyone points out that he's mixing up batman and superman in relation to hero and alter ego, but this might be intentional, keep in mind that he is the antagonist of this duology. Think about how he describes Clark Kent "Superman's Critique of humanity" the only other person who has that process about him comes from the superman mythos, Luthor. Whenever he finds out Kent is Supes he is furious that he could not see what was right in front of him and thinks it was superman playing everyone for fools when it's more often that's just his actual personality. Now think about the interactions between him and the bride. "You think I'm a superhero?" "You're an assassin, you wake up one" ect. Much like Luthor, Bill believes he knows everything there is to know about her and is completely blind to what's in front of him. Up until the beginning of this she was an expecting mother and fiance, she was not " The Bride" until he tried to kill her and she "lost" her child. Bill believed her an assassin (superman) first, grieving mother and enraged woman (Clark Kent) second, but in actuality it was the other way round, and it's the reason he was never going to win, because he thought himself so smart he blindsided himself. The analogy isn't that he didn't get superman's character, it's that he was never going to understand The Bride's.
I wonder what the creative team working on Superman at the time felt when they watched this clip because for a while there the Superman comics were absolutely abysmal. Even the art was awful.

So no I don't agree with his views on supes but it is an interesting take on the character, coming from a cold hearted killer.. This monologue demonstrates that Bill doesn't understand Superman. Superman is not a hero because he's Kal-El. Superman's a hero because he was raised Clark Kent. Bill almost has a coherent point here, but it breaks down because Bill doesn't understand that Clark Kent is who the character was raised to be while Superman/Kal-El is the gift he was born with . Bill clearly believes in destiny and all this nonsense. He's a romantic and deluded.

Well that's the point. He's the villain. He's smart enough to give coherent reasoning to his motives and can even convince others, but he's still fundamentally wrong, because he'll always be in the mindset that people are predestined to be a certain way. This way of thinking most likely grew from decades of effortlessly murdering people and coming to the conclusion that he must have always been inherently superior to others and was meant for this. Your comment demonstrates you missed the point to the monologue, hombre. The concept of "hero" never enters into the equation. He never celebrates Superman as a hero.. His statement is about true nature vs. society norms and what that means when one's true nature is a killer. There can be no distinction between what they are and what they do. And what they do is kill. Here's the thing: we're all told at an early age that we are the heroes of our own story. But that's just not true. All that trouble out there ain't gonna stir itself. Some of us are the bad guys. Some are born bad. Others turn that way. Either by accident or intent, it's just mathematics. I don't know if any of you are aspiring actors or writers, but if you are, then it's important - more so for writers - to take a beginning acting class for the purpose of understanding motivation and mining what's beneath. Point being, in an acting class, they teach you that if you're playing a character who is a "bad guy" the last thing you do is play "bad." In other words, a villain doesn't see himself as such. To the villain, it's the guy with the cape that's the bad guy. Follow what I'm saying? Bad people don't think of themselves as villains. Their motivation for murder and mayhem is just as pure as a heroes call for life and justice. In short, to deny one's nature - be it hero or villain - would be to live a lie and squander your natural talent. Quite frankly, there is nothing sadder than seeing someone reject their innate gifts. That's why Budd's character is so tragic. He's chosen to deny the killer inside himself. In order to do so, he has to live apart from society and work in a shitty titty bar that's has no customers. He surrounds himself with as few people as possible to avoid any "triggers" to his deadly instinct. We all know he could snap Larry in two, but he has to demean himself to a lesser man in order to deny what his nature tells him to do, which would be to fuck Larry up six ways to Sunday. Make sense?
He is completely 100% wrong, if he was talking about Batman, he would be right. When Clark wakes in the morning, yes he has the powers of Superman, but he wakes up as Clark Kent, it is core to his identity. When Batman wakes up, when Batman goes to sleep he is batman, Bruce Wayne is the mask that Batman wears. Clark Kent ideally just wants to be Clark Kent, it would make him happier than anything on earth if his alter ego was no longer needed, on the other hand, the same situation would destroy Batman, he wouldn't know how to cope.

Superman cares very deeply for humans, and Clark Kent is an enormous part of his personality, if not the majority . 1) he was raised by human parents whom he loved and instilled him with basically rural Christian values of self control and helping others. 2) he is in love with a human 3) he dedicates his life to saving humans and even becomes distressed when he can’t help more. 4) The most damning evidence that Superman considers himself in LARGE part as Clark Kent.... and that is that deep down, it’s clear he wants Louis to fall in love with Clark instead of Superman. Why would he ever want that if Clark is just his fake alter ego? The reason he acts like a bumbling, incompetent fool is NOT because that is how he thinks of humans. His act is clearly a result of the fact that his entire disguise is a pair of glasses and a slightly different part in his hair. He obviously made the decision that he had to “put it on extra thick”, for everyone to completely dismiss the possibility that this guy who looks exactly like Superman, might actually be him. So, although cute and funny at first.... I find his monologue to be entirely off base....but I could be wrong🤷🏻♂️

For me, David Carradine is completely irreplaceable. His performance and his figure is something else. His, was an enormous loss and we will never get this quality of acting again. Sean Connery, Christopher Lee, Marlon Brando, Al Pacino and Robert De Niro are also in the same category.

I think most miss out on how Tarantino made Bill intentionally wrong.
Superman is Clark Kent. He was raised as Clark, he grew up on a farm outside of Smallville with Ma and Pa Kent. At the end of the day, if Superman's powers were to disappear, he would still function as Clark Kent because that's how he grew up and has lived a good chunk of his life despite having godly powers. Sure, the Clark persona is exaggerated to keep folks off his back, but he still functions.
Bill's mistaken assessment of Superman is in line with the Bride's. He doesn't understand that both Supes and the Bride are more than their persona. The Bride chose being a mother and will probably function just fine as one despite having a strong killer instinct.
He is equally wrong about Batman being Bruce Wayne. Bruce Wayne died when his parents were murdered. Batman is his true identity now and Bruce Wayne is just a hollow facade.

I think the reality is that regardless of the person in question you can't just put someone in one singular bubble. People are apart of a spectrum of labels. A person isn't just a drunk, isn't just a liar, isn't just a killer. They might drink, lie or kill but that's not just what they are, and most certainly shouldn't be how they are defined.

People are completely missing the point Bill was making... Superman’s destiny was to be Superman, not Clark Kent. Superman uses the Clark Kent alter ego to blend in with society and its somewhat his perception of humanity. Bruce Wayne’s created the alter ego Batman because it’s who he wants humanity to be: brave, bold, righteous but he only essentially does things at night because of the darkness that’s within him and humanity. Beatrix’s destiny was to be a killer which is why she was so great at it but she created he alter ego Arlene to blend in with society just like how Superman created Clark Kent. Yes Clark Kent was the name given to him by Joe and Martha but they gave him the name, not the identity. The most memorable speech from Carradine portrayed as Bill. How he, as a sadist and a masochist, twisted "human mythology" from the moral underlying narrative and switching the perspective into psychological pathology was just so cold and manipulative, trying to ram a psychological screw into Beatrix's head with the idea that she can never change as a malevolent killer. But ironically, that dialogue could also be Beatrix's conscious awakening of her own murderous ego and from that, awareness of the choice she can make with her life - which is what she wanted, but clearly not for Bill to which I suspect for his own psychopathic, sadistic and masochistic intentions.
No one else could have made this film. And that the final fight takes place seated is just genius.

I think Batman is more applicable. Earth is a tragic story. Batman/Bruce Wayne turned that tragic story into a heroic one. Like we can; if we try hard enough and never give up.
The Justice League was that example that Jor-El predicted. In every variation of Jor-El's talk with his son, it all says the same. That Humans will eventually be capable of the same strengths, smarts and ideals, because it's those traits that made Superman who he is, not his powers. That one day even the most ordinary of humans among most beings that have graced Earth in DC for better or worse would join him and continue the cycle of idealism. Without Superman: The core members of the Justice League even in their solo careers would still work in the shadows, instead of stepping out into the sun with him. Without the Justice League there'd be no Teen Titans, nor if not for TT there'd be no Young Justice. Just by example alone Superman has helped create 3 generations of heroes not even counting the subgroups in their wake like Outsiders and Titans East. And without them all, Humanity itself wouldn't step out with them. It's so powerful, that Superman's presence alone is enough for the people to stand behind him. This was what Jor-El predicted.
But....Superman has 1 major advantage that he did not have in the beginning or that he saw coming...Superman has Batman...

Now and again he fight's super beings like Doomsday or Darkseid but pain is a foreign concept to him and he doesn't understand what a large driving motivator it is day to day. All a matter of perspective
In the original back story Clark Kent discovers his alien heritage and spends over a decade learning from the knowledge his father left him, this is the period where Superman's persona came about and Clark Kent was changed, during his youth Clark Kent thought he was a human who was simply gifted and acted in his usual manner at the time, but after the revelation and studying Superman became his true persona and Clark Kent was left as a mask for him to mold into something that would divert the eyes of people from who he really is all the while he hides among humans. The idea that Clark Kent is the true persona and that Superman is just a role he plays is very recent (90s forward) but it doesn't change the fact that Clark Kent is persona that hides his face with glasses he doesn't need, applies a hair style he doesn't like and has a posture and mannerism he never had before he became Superman. To this day Superman is the persona that shows to the world how he really is, full face revealed, standing up right, speaking clearly and confidently. No matter how much anyone says Clark Kent in the real persona the fact remains that Clark Kent is the guy who is hiding something.

this speech was always sort of off. Superman's lived his entire life, brought up by decent people. This assessment that superman looks down on humanity as weaklings would be true if he was raised by some asshole.
Clark Kent as a reporter varies from adaptation. sometimes he acts like a coward, like in the movies to downplay suspicions that he is superman, other times he is pretty reserved, choosing to settle things with diplomacy or intellect like in the DCAU continuity, but this doesn't mean Clark Kent is some guise for superman. Superman is a guise for Clark Kent to exorcise his superpowers to help people without being some 24/7 protector.
To say superman has respect for humanity is an understatement, it would be more accurate to say that he sees himself as human more than a kryptonian. He's an Orc raised by High elves, Tarzan raised by apes, Mowgli raised by wolves, Worf raised by Terrans. He will yearn for that native side and want to dip into where he came from, but ultimately he'd more than likely turn down Kryptonian Cuisine for a Chili cheeseburger and a tall frosty shake from some Smallville diner
I think superman understands dying and pain perfectly fine. He's been weakened by various types of kryptonite many times, and he's taken Kara to train under a red sun where they have no powers.
He is also not immortal, though he might live 200-300 years.

Not at all. Bill's speech is actually a terrible representation of what Superman really is. People here have pointed out that he's most likely talking about Pre Crisis, but that's an outdated version of him that most people write off nowadays. Anyway, there are different takes on what Superman really is and how much of each aspect is truly more dominant, but Bill's take on him is one that I think most would disagree with. He essentially made Superman view us as weak/meak, but that's not true at all. In my favorite take (Greg Pak's run), Clark was very much a man of the people and saw himself as a human. Even SNyder got that right in MOS by saying Clark was a battle of Nature vs Nurture, where nurture won.

Ben Williams Bill being the villain, can't conceive that a figure as powerful as Superman would ever pose as Clark Kent unless it was a farce rather than the Clark Kent persona being a choice that Supes is happy to use because he likes being human.
Its less that Bill is misinterpreting Superman because he's a Villain, and more because he's a cynic and a misanthrope. And it also says a lot about how he views Beatrix.

As you know, l’m quite keen on comic books. Especially the ones about superheroes. I find the whole mythology surrounding superheroes fascinating. Take my favorite superhero, Superman. Not a great comic book, not particularly well-drawn, but the mythology. The mythology is not only great, it’s unique…Now, a staple of the superhero mythology is, there’s the superhero and there’s the alter ego. Batman is actually Bruce Wayne, Spider-Man is actually Peter Parker. When that character wakes up in the morning, he’s Peter Parker. He has to put on a costume to become Spider-Man. And it is in that characteristic Superman stands alone. Superman didn’t become Superman. Superman was born Superman. When Superman wakes up in the morning, he’s Superman. His alter ego is Clark Kent. His outfit with the big red “S”, that’s the blanket he was wrapped in as a baby when the Kents found him. Those are his clothes. What Kent wears - the glasses, the business suit - that’s the costume. That’s the costume Superman wears to blend in with us. Clark Kent is how Superman views us. And what are the characteristics of Clark Kent? He’s weak, he’s unsure of himself, he’s a coward. Clark Kent is Superman’s critique on the whole human race. Sorta like Beatrix Kiddo and Mrs. Tommy Plympton…You would’ve worn the costume of Arlene Plympton. But you were born Beatrix Kiddo. And every morning when you woke up, you’d still be Beatrix Kiddo…I’m calling you a killer. A natural born killer. You always have been, and you always will be. I like this idea however you have to also remember that clark kent is also a model citizen, honest, respectful, honorable, loyal and righteous. I can't really consider clark weak because he's unlike a majority of the croocked villians he fights against. Many villians give into thier weaknesses and become that which they are scarred by (they were abused in life so they abuse others for example).

Here's a point I haven't seen brought up, everyone points out that he's mixing up batman and superman in relation to hero and alter ego, but this might be intentional, keep in mind that he is the antagonist of this duology.
Think about how he describes Clark Kent "Superman's Critique of humanity" the only other person who has that process about him comes from the superman mythos, Luthor. Whenever he finds out Kent is Supes he is furious that he could not see what was right in front of him and thinks it was superman playing everyone for fools when it's more often that's just his actual personality.
Now think about the interactions between him and the bride. "You think I'm a superhero?" "You're an assassin, you wake up one" ect. Much like Luthor, Bill believes he knows everything there is to know about her and is completely blind to what's in front of him. Up until the beginning of this she was an expecting mother and fiance, she was not " The Bride" until he tried to kill her and she "lost" her child.
Bill believed her an assassin (superman) first, grieving mother and enraged woman (Clark Kent) second, but in actuality it was the other way round, and it's the reason he was never going to win, because he thought himself so smart he blindsided himself. The analogy isn't that he didn't get superman's character, it's that he was never going to understand The Bride's.

Clark is who I am, Superman is what I can do. Superman is an Icon, Clark Kent is a person. That's the point Bill missed in his take on Superman. So no I don't agree with his views on supes but it is an interesting take on the character, coming from a cold hearted killer.. Bills view on Superman is misguided to say the least but interesting coming from a cold hearted killer.

Zipblockgory when superman came to earth he was superman/kal el he wasnt clark kent .the kents gave him that name when they found him he became clark kent .As he got older he became more aware of who he really was clark kent was and always is the costume thats the character that kal el plays to fit in with us humans because the reality is he's not human hes from another planet even tho he looks like one of us he isnt one of us . Bills spot on in his interpertation of superman .

This monologue demonstrates that Bill doesn't understand Superman. Superman is not a hero because he's Kal-El. Superman's a hero because he was raised Clark Kent. Bill almost has a coherent point here, but it breaks down because Bill doesn't understand that Clark Kent is who the character was raised to be while Superman/Kal-El is the gift he was born with . Bill clearly believes in destiny and all this nonsense. He's a romantic and deluded.

Well that's the point. He's the villain. He's smart enough to give coherent reasoning to his motives and can even convince others, but he's still fundamentally wrong, because he'll always be in the mindset that people are predestined to be a certain way. This way of thinking most likely grew from decades of effortlessly murdering people and coming to the conclusion that he must have always been inherently superior to others and was meant for this. Beatrix proved him wrong by abandoning the life for her baby despite being the best killer. So he overreacted
Your comment demonstrates you missed the point to the monologue, hombre. The concept of "hero" never enters into the equation. He never celebrates Superman as a hero.. His statement is about true nature vs. society norms and what that means when one's true nature is a killer. There can be no distinction between what they are and what they do. And what they do is kill.
Here's the thing: we're all told at an early age that we are the heroes of our own story. But that's just not true. All that trouble out there ain't gonna stir itself. Some of us are the bad guys. Some are born bad. Others turn that way. Either by accident or intent, it's just mathematics.
I don't know if any of you are aspiring actors or writers, but if you are, then it's important - more so for writers - to take a beginning acting class for the purpose of understanding motivation and mining what's beneath. Point being, in an acting class, they teach you that if you're playing a character who is a "bad guy" the last thing you do is play "bad." In other words, a villain doesn't see himself as such. To the villain, it's the guy with the cape that's the bad guy. Follow what I'm saying? Bad people don't think of themselves as villains. Their motivation for murder and mayhem is just as pure as a heroes call for life and justice.
In short, to deny one's nature - be it hero or villain - would be to live a lie and squander your natural talent. Quite frankly, there is nothing sadder than seeing someone reject their innate gifts. That's why Budd's character is so tragic. He's chosen to deny the killer inside himself. In order to do so, he has to live apart from society and work in a shitty titty bar that's has no customers. He surrounds himself with as few people as possible to avoid any "triggers" to his deadly instinct. We all know he could snap Larry in two, but he has to demean himself to a lesser man in order to deny what his nature tells him to do, which would be to fuck Larry up six ways to Sunday.

He is completely 100% wrong, if he was talking about Batman, he would be right. When Clark wakes in the morning, yes he has the powers of Superman, but he wakes up as Clark Kent, it is core to his identity. When Batman wakes up, when Batman goes to sleep he is batman, Bruce Wayne is the mask that Batman wears. Clark Kent ideally just wants to be Clark Kent, it would make him happier than anything on earth if his alter ego was no longer needed, on the other hand, the same situation would destroy Batman, he wouldn't know how to cope.

Clark the version of the character who works at the daily planet is a disguise so no one knows who Superman is. The Clark who hangs out with his mother at the farm is the real guy and he isn't cowardly or bumbling.
