Hi All, this is the very first video and restoration project - apologies for all the weird stuff in there, it will get better... or maybe not, but I will definitely try :)
It's great to see a new channel like this from the beginning! Very well done for your first project I have to say. I look forward to seeing you grow as a content creator. I hope you are okay with constructive criticism, I have just one point so far! The music is a bit loud which makes it hard to hear what you're saying, especially for me who has an auditory processing disorder. I do like the choices of music though, it fits the video well! All in all, I really enjoyed this! Thank you for putting it out there! And don't forget to remove that PRAm battery, preferably before it explodes!
Thank you very much for your kind words. Criticism is most welcome, it helps fixing issues and growing. Apologies for the audio issues (loudness or lack of it) - I am not entirely sure what I am doing wrong in the editor, or with the export... I am trying though... the next two videos are also having uneven audio problems... [I might even hazard a guess that those are worse a bit] I am currently finishing the next one (for this Friday), I will try my best to make it even and balanced. once again, thank you for your feedback, I am glad you enjoyed the video.
@@RetroPotato I'm sure you'll figure it out! Content creation is a massive learning curve and that perfection is always elusive, but given how enjoyable this was I see a great future for you on RUclips! Good luck with the editing, I was never good at it myself. Of course, now all my videos are delisted, maybe that's for the best!
@@RetroPotato in your video editor, click on the sound file/music strip thingy where ever you put the music and there should be a volume slider somewhere to make the music quieter. they have that in imovie and i’m sure a lot of others
Yes of course, and i am trying - the issue lies however outside of that sadly, and it is most likely my process of switching between speakers, headphones and different source of audios. I need to stick to 'one-way' and also perhaps learn about normalisation of the audio. Thanks for the suggestion though, i will pay attention to that too
Thanks for the retro tour. You did a thorough job! You mentioned you worked on one 8 years ago but that machine was 5 years old. Did you mean the same model? Because this one came out in 2003 which would made it 11 years old back then...
Hi, yes you are correct, the calculation is wrong a bit. First of all I should clear the fact that this video was recorded almost 2 years ago. (and then sat on a disk because despite my confidence on the video about my free time - COVID hit, and we lost a substantial amount of workforce and work load just went through the roof for the remaining team) So the real date is 2020 on this video, which means my experience with the G4 was in 2012. THAT model was produced in 2004. so the real number is actually 8 years and not 5. (so i was clearly wrong) The "Issue" with me is that none of my videos are scripted which results in things calculated on the spot. (letting these errors to slip in) thank you very much for calling this out - i failed to pick this up during editing the video, but i will amend the subtitle to show the correct number. Once again, thanks for the feedback and comment.
The iMac G4 was my own personal 1st computer. Prior to that were an Apple IIe & a few Power Macs, which were the "family computer". I always loved the iMac G4 design. Still one of the best looking Macs Apple ever made, imo. I do recall those vents being traps for dust though. Had to use tweezers to pull the dust out every so often.
I agree this is the best looking iMac ever made ... and there is more G4 video in the pipeline because of that :) thank you for your comment - hope you enjoyed the video.
Good job, I'm also restoring one of these, unfortunately the power supply is dead, so I'm using an atx one to see if all the other parts are working fine
Oh yeah, i know the pain. Because of the size and odd shape its pretty difficult to get them shipped. so you either go and collect them personally (if they are within sensible reach) or you pay a fortune for postage. I just got another one and it was not an easy journey to get it shipped. Good luck for your hunting.
I am trying to get a 20 inch one for an upgrade, and I got another 15inch one just two days ago. Not sure what to do with that one ... yet. let me know the details :)
Well yes, but at the point of recording (and before I stopped to ask Google) I wasn't sure about the 3 beeps. being mainly a PC user I was not familiar with the error codes (beeps). but lesson learned :)
Did you find a replacement speaker already? I have a few of those lying around, pulled from the 17 inch iMac G4s. They should be the same though. Hmu if you like me to send you one 👍🏼
Hi, well yes and no - i have found one but sadly it is not working at all - so while I have one (physically in a good shape), it is fairly useless. We could discuss the details via email retropotatochannel@gmail.com thank you very much for the comment and offer
yeah, its an idea :) but i guess the cpu is not on the approved hardware list :) not to mention the limited amount of RAM it can handle :) but worth some digging /)

Very nice video ! I do like the design of the G4 and it's a bit a bummer that we can't do much thing with it nowadays
Yeah, it is an amazing design (both inside and out). Thank you for your feedback. :)
There's tons to do! So many period games to play, old software to try out... G4s are a lot of fun!

You gotta love the style of the old Macs.
Great video, be lucky stay safe.

Ah... such a shame (the power supply) - are you creating a video for it for your channel?
@@RetroPotato I don't really make this kind of videos on my channel but I'll surely post the result in Reddit r/vintageapple
Great job man!
Thank you, glad you liked the video.
Great video, I had one of these Mac’s years ago.
Thanks for uploading this mate!
Glad you enjoyed it, I just got the speaker for it, so we will return to it soon.
@@RetroPotato great, looking forward to seeing it! All the best mate
Keep it up dude! I loved the video.

Thank you very much for the kind words and subscription
Wow this was my dream computer when i saw it in the ads back then. I wish i could find a good working cheap one in my area

Also: will have another video coming up soon about that G4, so stay tuned :)

The slot with the ram and airport card has a cover i think
Nice video, I redo older Mac's but haven't done a G4 or G5. Someone local is selling an iMac G4, would you want another one?

Hello from youtube recommendations
Hello in the comment section :)
15:29 you should install macos 9 on it
i don’t have an installer for that - but i think the 1GHz versions can not boot from 9… only OSX … i might be wrong here of course
