Excellent prepping for the upcoming hiking/backpacking season. I have a couple of questions and I apologize in advance if you've already covered these in previous episodes. 1. Do you carry a wilderness first aid kit and what are the basic items in that kit? 2. What are your thoughts on bringing electrolytes on a backpacking/hiking trip? I've seen powdered electrolytes at outdoor outfitter stores. Both first aid kits and electrolytes seem like a good idea but what are your thoughts? I would love to see a Hike Oregon episode on these questions.

Yes I have a video on what is in my day hiking first aid kit. My backpacking first aid kit is much smaller and is part of my toiletries kit. Electrolytes are super important for both day hiking and especially summer backpacking. It’s so easy to get dehydrated and me and my friends have definitely experienced some issues with that. I personally prefer the electrolyte chews versus the powder or tablets.

@@HikeOregon THANKS! I'm not at all surprised you have first-aid kit videos and thank you for your thoughts on electrolyte chews versus the powder or tablets.

@@HikeOregon I'm curious why your day hike first aid kit is larger than your backpacking one? I would have thought they would be about the same, or the other way around.

One of the challenges for me since I moved to Oregon (I used to live in Socal) is training for high temps in summer. Hard to train for summer heat in the snow. This was not a problem in Socal, it went from hot to really hot in summer. Here in Oregon the swing is much larger and the spring has been quite cold. All you tips are very good, but it might snow here (Corvallis) tomorrow. Hard to train for summer heat in the snow. Any ideas would be welcome .

Yes that is a difficult issue that I face as well. The temp swing is big and very short.
