Saw a few comments here about RedWhite. I'm the owner. Sizing is an ongoing issue for many people and my ongoing work is constantly expanding the size range to fit as many people as possible. The bibs for men currently come in sizes XS-4XL and in 2 inseam length options - Regular & 2" Shorter Inseam. In 2025, it will be expanded with the introduction of 2" Longer Inseam which will work for the spider folk. ETA for this : March/April 2025.
@bleuify7 Unfortunately there are no stockists anywhere in the world. What I discovered a long time ago was that it's far more efficient for me to ship orders globally from Singapore and the customer service is also superior simply because I'm the one doing it directly. I have a long-term incentive to offer excellent customer service which a reseller will struggle to match. I did experiment with stockists in the past, but the customer service offered by them was was (at best) inconsistent and (in some cases) downright awful and nonexistent.
Only for you my friend am i documenting and measuring my bib shorts! I’m a long time subscriber and very much enjoy the work you do. My bibs of choice are De Marchi…I would like to add; exceptional quality, good value for money and excellent customer service. Cheers!
I got my first bib shorts from Cimacoppi, as they do merino wool bibs. But the best part is that they do them by your own provided measurements. And they have been really good!
Fellow long being I really appreciated your old video on this, and think it's great you're doing this now. I'll add thoughts/measurements of the pairs I own.
I used to ride different Castelli, Siroko and Bioracer bibs but I was not happy with the them. Then I watched China Cycling Joe talk about the best bib shorts he has ridden: Lameda Starlight bibs. So I bought 2! The material is amazing, the pad is ultra comfortable. Best bib shorts I have ridden. I will add them in the survey with the measurements but I am 176cm (I have shorter than average legs - not much but still) and 78kg and I ordered XL as they are Asia sizing.
Great idea. Submitted. Ekoi memory series. Extremely comfortable everywhere including soft straps. No issues on a 7hr ride compared to other brands that develop issues after 90min. Price is fantastic when on sale. The entire Ekoi line seems really well made. One reason I'm a 4/5 is I would want the front of the pad to be higher and wider
@@Yamaha_Bolt which Castelli line? Sorry I can’t follow the comparisons if I don’t know which levels you’re referring to. Is it entrata or premio/free aero?
I tried everything until I tried Kalas. Kalas has the 1+ - 4+ size options for skinny riders with long legs. I like both chamois endurance and zoom depending on ride length. And finally Kalas offers custom team clothing where you can make your teams design for Kalas to fabricate. Reasonable pricing and good service.
I will eagerly await the results of the survey. I've never found any shorts that fit perfectly. I'm too tall and skinny. The best fitting "shorts" I have are the ones attached to my nopinz skinsuit.

Bibs also ‘stretch’ over time as the material degrades. I’ve also noticed that bibs are ‘longer’ on shaved legs vs hairy legs. But the ‘Assos Equipe RS S11 Long’ are the longest I’ve tried.
I dream of a day where we get more than just S/M/L sizing, but also girth sizing. The S/M/L can be kept for length, but give use girth options too... I.e. "Medium - Thin" or "Medium - Wide"
Have just found Red White Apparel and ordered my first cargo bibs with the two inch shorter leg option (even though the regular leg length would fit me) as I prefer my tan line about five inches above my knee. Won’t get to try them until I’m in Portugal in mid January but the leg length is right where I want it.
Thank you for recommending RW. The bibs currently come in Regular and 2" Shorter Inseam. I assume you were refering to the Regular length option. A new 2" Longer Inseam option will be dropping in a March / April 2025 for the spider folks.
Assos RSR Equipe. Best shorts ever. For indoor riding I am using the Assos RSR Equipe Superleger shorts. Just did a 160km ride with them two days ago and again had zero issues. I wont try another brand.
Very interested to see the results. I'm the opposite, I wish high end bib shorts came in a shorter inseam. So many of them seem to go down to my kneecaps
Assos has two inseam lengths. May be worth a look for you. Also, Pedal Mafia will do custom with no MOQ. It’ll be pricey, and you’ll have to wait a bit, but you can get exactly what you want that way.
My preferred model right now is Santini Karma Delta 2024. I like the simple clean design, robust chamois density, good compression and silicone gripper. It has been scuffed up a bit by a gilet zipper end, but I guess I could have moved that out of the way. 78kg, 170cm and I chose Large. The sizing is Italian, and price was good. The other unique product I've tried is 7 Mesh 2023 lightweight bib short (don't know the model). What is unique about this brand is that the chamois floats on a separate piece of fabric so that it can move slightly and provide and extra layer of coverage in the back, so that it is not see through. This also means that the chamois can literally be turned inside out to expose the side that is against the fabric. This allows for good cleaning (especially useful after muddy rides) and drying. Compression on the 2023 model was very good and fabric elastic and light. I chose M for this and the sizing is North American (med is waist 34). For the 2024 version, which has a different lower cut in the front, light weight elastic straps and more generous in the hips, I found it a bit too loose for me, but it might be because it was the custom version, with dye sublimation side panels (for club logo), which looks like a less elastic fabric. Very good 4 layer EI chamois, with specific foam inserts for the pubic rami. This is probably a good model for a solid carbon saddle setup. My experience with LG (Louis Garneau) was good in the past, but now that it is closed down and the brand sold, it is no longer the same. Fabric quality is not as good.
I found out about everve cycling wear / shorts and they are literally perfect. I own a few pairs of their ME cycling shorts. The pads can be easily interchanged for firmer or harder ones but I already found the perfect fit and I tend to stick with those. They also offer pad-less bibs in combination with their special saddle. I ride this setup on my mountain bike and it is also great. But since I am already more than satisfied with their ME shorts I haven't switched all my bikes / saddles yet. They are a small German cycling wear company but you can easily order in their online shop. (Don't know about non-EU-shipping though)
Really interested to know the outcome of your survey. My big grip is getting bibs that are long enough in the body with comfortable straps. I have a really long torso. The Castelli superleggra are outstanding in overall performance but the straps are shit and too short for my body.
FYI, Cima Coppi is a Spanish brand that does custom sized bibs (and even offers merino kit). Has anyone tried them? I like their styles and really do like merino for cooler riding and dry climates.
You should specify in the form which sizing you want, for instance European sizing or US sizing. Many brands have US sizing and European sizing shifted by one size.
I think, overall, sizes are kind of weird. I believe I am pretty average 172cm tall but shirts I buy here are always short in the arms. Cycling clothes are also challenging. If I want the right length then clothes are too big. I think the UCI should regulate the length of the arms to make everyone have a fair aero drag coefficient😅
I love this. I hope you get some good feedback and results. What I would like to know is the pad placement. There seems lots of variation with pads too far forward or backward and therefore not on my sitbones
Agree, it can be a bit of gamble as well. For what it’s worth most times I’ve struggle with pad placement is when I had bib short that are too large for my scrawny ass.
I tend to go for the higher end Castelli so with the Progetto pad rather than the Kiss. This works for me 95% of the time but if I’m riding for 4 hours or more they start to get uncomfortable which is why I’ve been looking at other brands such as Assos, RedWhite etc but as with saddles & shoes trying them out is trial & error & also can get very expensive. I don’t think you can underestimate your saddle choice in all of this though.
Here in Europe customers are lucky that we have Decathlon... Their "expensive" stuff is so good that it makes you wonder why spending outrageous amounts for some other brands. I have their competition AG2R extra light jersey. 60 EUR. Their competition PRO bibs (Van Rysel Racer 3) are retailing for 70 EUR. This is amazing quality, by the way... Their wind tunnel tested helmet (FCR helmet) is retailing for 100-120 EUR... And Decathlon is still making profit by selling these products... Traditional cycling brands don't like Decathlon. Traditional climbing and mountaineering brands are afraid of Decathlon... Wondering why?
I don't have access to a tape measure where I am right now. But: I am 73", 175-180 lbs. Wear size L. Rapha Team Training - seams around saddle nose wear out and fray. Front of bib too high, hard to pull down to pee. Good fit Rapha Pro Team - seam wear out and fray to quickly, other wise good. A little too long. Not sure which length I ordered. Assos Equip RS Schtradivari - excellent. Good chamois, no seams to fray. I have the regular length, could be about 1cm longer. Assos Lehoudini speed suit - size XL fits really well, size L is a little tight and hard to put on. But really nice kit, chamois is a little too thin/small for longer rides. Perfect for races or short hard group ride.
I tried all kind of brands, even tried skinsuits but my go-to bib is from spexcel, an aliexpress brand i prefer over my bioracer. 2021 Pro team bib 3.0 in L is perfect fot 187cm 75kg. Price is incredible and best i tried so far.
Best short length and chamois Velocio Lux, but they also have the shortest and most painful straps if you are tall. Like your will have deep cuts in your traps short. For reference I am 200cm. I take them to a tailor and get the straps lengthened by 3"(7.62cm) which make an expensive bib even more expensive. The bike industry in general has not much to offer if you are outside of the bell curve.
ASSOS was uniquely good u til they jumped the shark around 2010 or so. Their former lead designer set up Q36.5. They experimented with various materials and by ~2015 had settled into a great line of wear that continues today. 1. The sheer, tight fitting pockets in legs of some “gravel” bib shorts these days are very practical. … I am curious if they will last. 2. The chamois wears out often before the rest of the garment … would love to find a provider who would remove/replace with a new one. 3. I have several “onesy” skin suits from Alé that are awesome in warmer weather. This design is the future … easier for bathroom breaks, more aero, and better cooling than most other upper options.
another interesting dimension is the length (and elasticity) of the straps, for example Castelli is way too short !! I can fit in M bibs (181cm height), but straps put so much stress on my shoulder musclesthat after a few hours ride I need 1h massage !!
My most comfortable pair of shorts are Eliel Laguna Seca Endurance 11" and while the length is closer to what I want, the leg openings are a bit big which means they don't grip as well (I guess I could shave) on my 189cm tall 70kg self. I'll find the right pair of bibs some day... while also paying Japan prices 😭
I wish the survey allowed for more than one brand to measure. I have many brands: Some run too short, some to wide , some with poor leg grippping, some w better chamois than others., some run too small etc., I am in-between a small and a medium depending on the brand. Thanks again for the video!
Survey submitted. Im 6'2 and 168lbs, the only length of short that has fit me perfectly is the Endura SL Pro Long leg version. Literally everything else that i have tried has been too short. Here in Canada it's so expensive to import these european brands in due to import duties and taxes. If anyone knows any Canadian retailers with long leg versions of bibs let me know!
As someone a bit wide, I usually have to size up, ending up with longer than usual sleeves and shorts (not below knees at least lol). Tought, the major problem is when they start tearing in some parts, get ripped or have holes when I fall, which has a patch + iron solution I haven't tried yet.
For me its jerseys and esp. jackets. Wide Shoulders, very long arms compared to the rest of my body and a relatively narrow waist/hip (183cm, 70kg). Most bibs are thankfully fine though, usually tat most only the straps are a bit short.
Brands need to offer tall sizes for those of us who are tall and thin, so we don't need to buy a size bigger to get the length we need. I usually have to wear XL bibs and a medium jersey, and neither fit me well.
I love my Assos long versions. I keep an eye on their archive sales and snap them up at a discount. That way, they are just expensive vs crazy expensive. I am pleased with their comfort and longevity.
Have you tried Castelli bib shorts? They fit pretty well for skinny people. Found a store that was selling them and they were pretty unique and high quality
Eliel Cycling Laguna Seca offer an 11" (28cm) long set of bib shorts. All of their models come in 9.5" or 11". The higher end ones are made in California I believe and the others at their factory in Mexico
I have some of theirs, I like the length as they are longer than most others I've had, the fabric is super nice and how they are made is legit, but the chamois they use is extremely thin and soft, probably the most uncomfortable chamois I've ever used.
@ I always wear their bib shorts long rides in particular (160-300km). They’re just right. The LeCol are probably a better chamois, but they are a PITA to take a nature-break, if you know what I mean. The Eliel are cut just right
What about: ordering a custom fitting garment through a sports clothing tailor? Just as we do with suits and vests and business shirts and shoes, why not go to a tailor and have your measurements taken and have an article of clothing made just to fit you?
just out of curiosity, what size tires do you tend to run on your Ti bike there? Neopro has good bibs, long, good compression, well made, 60 USD. just size up one size to make sure you're getting that long leg length.
Yes great bibs but the pad is slightly positioned forward. Perfect for relaxed riding position but too intrusive for an aero with large handlebar drop.
I’ve owned & ridden + 60 bibshorts since 2017. Still have about 55 rn. About 30-40 on rotation (that includes THERMAL bibshorts) so yeah I think I’m entitled to give my opinion 🤣
the DHB aeron 2 with paris hp pads , have been the ONES, there is nothing close on the market , not for the price from 50-100, only problem is they are UK based, DEF NEVER RAFA , maybe pactimo, but any bibs that use paris hp or better from elastic interface
Not really A problem I've run into...usually the lycra becoming transparent happens way before the hem get too slack hehe But I would very much like to see that fix!
I have GSG Pordoi bibs and am relatively happy about them, but I coudn't take my eyes away from the bike on the background. It's a thing of beauty? What is it?
All the major brands, should have atleast an "wide option", for all there garments. Most do already have "long version" on the bibs. But those of us that are under 1.80m, and not have the body of a pro KOM rider, often struggle with sizes, because as my self as an exp., with a height of 1.70m, should wear small or sometimes even xs, if the lenght of both the shirt itself and the arm lenght (with long sleeve), should fit perfect....but all of us that have a normal body type (not pro fit but not overweight neither - just normal good shape), often have to go up a size to have it fit the chest, shoulder an stomic/waist....and then end up having too long sleeves and the most enoying thing...have a bulky shirt/zipper when on the bike, because its too long on the body...that is just crap 😒🙄🤯😞😠
I appreciate that you're trying to protect our personal data as best as you can (by not not asking for it, that is), but isn't all this data useless with something to compare it to - i.e. our measurements? Tell me if I'm missing something here, but right now it seems that that might be a flaw in your data collection efforts. Cheers!
I will explain my thinking in the follow up video… assuming I get enough data in the first place… which is why I want to keep the barrier as low as possible for this first attempt. I think I can still extract some useful data from this… finger crossed 🤞 And if it is a success there’s room to expand the survey in the future making it an annual thing
I'm afraid I can't help. Because I don't like the feel of bibs I use bibless shorts or one-piece skinsuits. I also fail to see the point of bib shorts seeing that bibless shorts don't budge at all. Bibs add more weight and heat in the summer. Bibless shorts take one fit-sensitive part out of the equation.
While more data is always better, I wanted to have as low barrier as possible. As soon as you ask for personal data that barrier increases quickly. Also this time, rather than looking individual entries one by one, I’m more after general trends. When it come to specific stand out models my hope is that the actual measurements might provide some hints. Depending of how big the turnout is, it might be interesting to develop the survey further in the future.
@@ridesofjapan 👍did ask because I have Rapha's size small but then ASSOS's in Large which to me is puzzling, but then your reply makes sense. I suppose this will be picked up as part of the general trends, specially if more people answers the 'optional' two questions. Anyway, hope your recovery is going well, all the best!
I’m 183. the problem is since you should size for hip/waist size, my size is S or even XS which makes it hard to get longer legs. The original rapha pro team long-leg were great. The new pro team is not good for any more for me, hem to large and straps too short. I go into my personal issues in the old video if you’re interested ruclips.net/video/rozzz_eSq5w/видео.htmlsi=PUh9akPn5QahDEK8 The point of this video is not really my specific issue, it’s hopefully gather some data that I can use in a follow up video to help guide people fall outside the ”norm” in either direction… at least that’s the idea of I can get enough participants.
@@ridesofjapan at 180cm and 78kgs I wish I had that problem! Maybe, dare I say, bulk up a little! I prescribe squats and Protein. But seriously, there should be an option for all body types.

Happy New Year Torvig 🎉❤ looking forward to another 5 years of Rides of Japan 😊
Thanks again for the video!
you can just take the survey as many times as you wish, no?
Feel free to submit multiple entries! That would be mega helpful!
Can you split fit/conform, durability and price in two two questions 1 fit/conform, 2 durability and price - this might give a better picture
Same here, SL Pro. Comfiest mainstream bibs I've got. 6'3" and 80kg
Yap, Endura Pro SL long version is a good fit gor me as well 1.90 m @ 74 kg Size M
Long sleeve jerseys/jackets can certainly be a pain in the ass for me as well
Try MAVIC jackets and jerseys.
I saw this notification on my phone, and was so confused because I thought he was directly asking me.
Haha… never thought about how it would appear in notification… sorry about that 😅
What's the deal with bib length anyway? Is there any advantage to longer bibs or is it mostly about aesthetics?
Commenting for extra reach, I need this data. I'm short and squat but I struggle with bibs too
Brands need to offer tall sizes for those of us who are tall and thin, so we don't need to buy a size bigger to get the length we need. I usually have to wear XL bibs and a medium jersey, and neither fit me well.
Did you check the Assos? They have long version of bibs, but only at the highest models.
I love my Assos long versions. I keep an eye on their archive sales and snap them up at a discount. That way, they are just expensive vs crazy expensive. I am pleased with their comfort and longevity.
Assos. I've been riding for 40+ years, there is no substitute, I've tried all the others.
Have you tried Castelli bib shorts? They fit pretty well for skinny people. Found a store that was selling them and they were pretty unique and high quality
Just submitted the survey!
In the video it’s 30mm tires (0psi)
@@ridesofjapan thanks.
I added mine for the women!
Heard a lot about red and white bibs meant to be awesome.. Pete
Yes great bibs but the pad is slightly positioned forward. Perfect for relaxed riding position but too intrusive for an aero with large handlebar drop.
@@scare1024yeah I don’t actually own a pair thanks for the info I use castelli, le col and endura I’m on short thought about 5’8 😊
Assos Equipe Series.
This is the way !
I’ve owned & ridden + 60 bibshorts since 2017. Still have about 55 rn. About 30-40 on rotation (that includes THERMAL bibshorts) so yeah I think I’m entitled to give my opinion 🤣
😂😂I think you may have a problem 😉
@ I ride 30,000 to 40,000km every year so, let’s say i NEED a lot of them 😅
Also, I'm 5'8" (173cm), and about 180 lbs, and I wear a size L regardless of the brand.
Assos or lecol 0:42 for me. 5'10" , 74kg, slim build 65 yrs old, 34 " waist
the DHB aeron 2 with paris hp pads , have been the ONES, there is nothing close on the market , not for the price from 50-100, only problem is they are UK based, DEF NEVER RAFA , maybe pactimo, but any bibs that use paris hp or better from elastic interface
I thought this was about repairing the slack hems of older bib versions. It's doable, you know!
Not really A problem I've run into...usually the lycra becoming transparent happens way before the hem get too slack hehe
But I would very much like to see that fix!
HNY : survey completed.
Funkier is the best bibshort brand i've found.
Здравствуйте! А мне Biemme нравятся. У меня рост 183, размер xl подходит хорошо.
171cm, 84cm inseam. 10/10 spider 🕷️
when i notice rides of japan uploaded a new video: 😁 when I notice the video is less than 1 hour long: 🥲🤧
I have GSG Pordoi bibs and am relatively happy about them, but I coudn't take my eyes away from the bike on the background. It's a thing of beauty? What is it?
I’ve done a series of videos on it if you’re interested: Titanium Weight Weenie Saga

@@ridesofjapan Thanks.
the only issue is the moose knuckle
Has anyone tried the Spatz bibs
‘strange measurement’ to cm conversion 😂😂😂😂
Done.
But short bib shorts are lighter? Assos Cento Evo was the perfect bib short but they stopped making it.
Rapha Powerweave
183cm and 62 kg ?😮I have 20kg‘s more not only your bikes are light weight 😂
No weight of the bibs? Disappointed 😂😂
Entrata
I appreciate that you're trying to protect our personal data as best as you can (by not not asking for it, that is), but isn't all this data useless with something to compare it to - i.e. our measurements?
Tell me if I'm missing something here, but right now it seems that that might be a flaw in your data collection efforts. Cheers!
I will explain my thinking in the follow up video… assuming I get enough data in the first place… which is why I want to keep the barrier as low as possible for this first attempt.
I think I can still extract some useful data from this… finger crossed 🤞
And if it is a success there’s room to expand the survey in the future making it an annual thing
Shouldn’t you ask for people’s height as well? Or not relevant for the survey?…
Bib shorts are heavy. Stop wearing them.
I don’t get it. What’s your issue? Not long enough?
Correct
@ even Rapha long bibs? How tall are you?
I’m 183. the problem is since you should size for hip/waist size, my size is S or even XS which makes it hard to get longer legs.
The original rapha pro team long-leg were great. The new pro team is not good for any more for me, hem to large and straps too short.
I go into my personal issues in the old video if you’re interested ruclips.net/video/rozzz_eSq5w/видео.htmlsi=PUh9akPn5QahDEK8
The point of this video is not really my specific issue, it’s hopefully gather some data that I can use in a follow up video to help guide people fall outside the ”norm” in either direction… at least that’s the idea of I can get enough participants.
@@ridesofjapan at 180cm and 78kgs I wish I had that problem! Maybe, dare I say, bulk up a little!
I prescribe squats and Protein.
But seriously, there should be an option for all body types.
@@__marshie Bulk would be adding weight. Something this guy is allergic to.
RedWhite. Talk to Yuva. He’ll sort you out.
