That Tiger Photo is SUPERB dude !!!!
Thank you! It was one of those moments they just were right there not moving much. Probably took a 100 photos of them
very true !
Props for the thumbnail alone Bobby!
Thanks!
I just pre ordered the lens and the GFX100/2 just now
Awesome!! Congrats
Oh my, you would have had the same feeling in 1968 when Leica put out the
Telyt 400mm f6.8. As you said only the
Masters of the Art can make those focal
Length work for them. Keep shooting!
I am missing the correlation between this lens for Medium format and a 1968 lens and where did I say “Masters of the Art can make these focal lengths work for them?”
With 102mp, you can have a FF crop at 64mp, APSC at 25mp, and m43 at 16mp. Several cameras combined lol.
Yes
I love wildlife, thanks for posting
Thanks for watching.
Certainly a very interesting lens as a GFX100S II owner but I still kinda prefer the reach and flexibility of the X-T5 with the XF150-600mm. That being said, if you can get close enough, the GF500mm F5.6 will obviously be sharper and better.
@@MTCBKK indeed. 16bit color and 100MP is quite amazing to see with animals and wildlife
100 MP MF + 500 5.6 could be wildlife combo to end all wildlife combos ...
Yes especially if you don’t need high burst mode for fast moving animals
Not so sure. It looks amazing, but here’s the issue: 400mm ff isn’t ideal for wildlife. For larger subjects, you want a zoom as Bobby mentions. A 100-400 is a better choice. For smaller subjects, like birds, you want 600mm. Yes, you can crop, but at that point you’re better off with a Sony a7rv and 200-600mm ad 61mp. I’m impressed by this Fuji lens. It’s a feat to get a 500mm lens to be that compact, let alone a medium format. But I’m not sure this combo is as compelling as it seems. Plus there’s that relatively slow fps issue Bobby mentions too.
@@MatthewRaifman one can add a teleconverter to get more range with it. While not having the speeds of a Sony, Nikon or Canon for certain types of wildlife photography it will work. Birding not so much unless the bird is perched and quite still or gliding at a slower speed.
Amazing photos, this lens is bonkers as well
Thanks 🙏 yes this is one special lens
hey Booby, this combo is indeed mind-blowing man!! Amazing images!!
Thanks! Yes it’s a fantastic combo
@@btonelli booby
This is the equivalent of 395mm f4.4. If they made it f4, would have been really big and expensive and the equivalent of f3.2.
I wanted to sell the 250mm because it's very slow, but maybe I keep it. These lenses are amazing in terms of quality.
This lens is definitely an improvement over the 250. Weight, optics and AF
What a monster! I would love a 500mm for my X2D!
Hopefully Hasselblad makes something like this one day
@@btonelli I really hope so. I’ve resorted to using Leica R lenses with an adapter, but a native lens like this would be amazing. Except it would probably cost $10-15k…
Agree, but the final shots are shared via streaming or social media at much lower resolution , everything is compressed
Judging on RUclips vs seeing the images is different. 16 bit colors are something one needs to see to understand part of the benefit of Medium Format
My impression is that lens size is more related to focal length than image circle (at telephoto)? So perhaps that’s why it’s not a huge difference between the FF and MF 500mm lenses- Fujifilm may be onto something, maybe MF for telephoto work could be the future
Perhaps. When I had this lens for review, I had very limited info. I can only really comment on image quality, weight and performance
Hi, what's your lens /camera / aperture for filming your setup ?
Nikon Z8 / Nikkor 24-70 f2.8. I shoot at f2.8
@@btonelli thanks, impressive work, I was stunned buy the quality
Thanks 🙏
great video!
Thanks 🙏
@@btonelli the enthusiasm was infectious. keep it up. photography is all about the emotions after all.
what a beautiful shot of the tiger at 0:11, I could definitely frame that, it looks worthy of a national geographic magazine cover!
Thank you. I was extremely lucky
true, is it as shot or heavily adjusted, if so I'd be very interested in a tutorial of it
Actually minimal adjustments. Just made the colors pop a bit more
Amen.😊
Thank you for watching
Maybe ! But that depends on Fuji remakes ALL their Lenses to get more compact and Light weight !!!
I think they can. Hopefully in the future they reduce the size
Why is it so short, did it use the Fresnel lens principle?
And aperture 5.6 remains 5.6 even when recalculated to focal length 400 for GFX.
I have no idea. The 250 from Fujifilm is larger. No mention of fresnal elements etc
Now that's the GF lens that makes sense for $3500! :)
Indeed
The link to B&H for the lens is not there
Hi. Just added
Sony should start making medium format cameras instead of just making medium format sensors for Fuji, Hasselblad etc.
R&D for a new set of lenses plus bodies is a lot and are the profits big enough? I’m thinking probably not for them
@@btonelli They're already making the sensors, they can ask for a premium targeting the top of the top photographers and another version for cinema. People focusing on phones though makes it a hard pill to swallow.
I think that Sony may have contracts with Fuji and DJI (Hasselblad) which can stop Sony making larger sensor cameras for a period of years.
@@cameraprepper7938 Yeah like a gentlemen agreement, maybe the same for micro 4/3.
that s crazy, how did they do that..500mm that small for medium format. i wonder how much it ll cost
3,499 USD can check the link in my description for more info
@@btonelli thanks crazy and not expansive. I mean for à médium format 500mm
@@telemaq76 yes much less than I assumed it would be
This is a great zoo lens but i dont know if the GFX AF is cutting for the actual wildlife. I'm more excited about the rumored XF500mm f5.6 for the X-mount bodies.
Actually it’s very quick and accurate. This lens takes advantage of the AF speeds the GFX has
@@btonelli But you do not do REAL Wildlife Photography !
@@cameraprepper7938 and I’m guessing your professional wildlife photographer?
@@cameraprepper7938 while I was photographing animals in a controlled environment (Singapore is a small country) the process is similar. Find your subject, compose and take the photograph. Similar to “wildlife” photography wouldn’t you agree? I wasn’t in the mountains or safari but does that negate the quality of the lens and camera system?
@@btonelli Good luck with finding your subject and compose in the wild !!!
About the system, yes it is good, but is it convenient for wildlife photography compared to a full frame Camera system, I do not think so. The 500mm is compact and light weight, but all the other Fuji Lenses are not, it is a big system.
No gfx 100s2 video?
No. I didn’t get the camera for review this time. Only the lens
Seriously man, did your friends in the zoo get excited when you visit them with all the new gear every time?😂
Haha 😂😂
Not much help on my HB. ;o(
Haha not for the HB
This is so funny😂 Nikon 400mm f4.5 is the full frame equivalent of this lens! What’s the use of medium format if full frame can do the same in much cheaper and lighter setup
@@fahminrazin8969 full frame and medium format is different in terms of image quality and resolution.
@@btonelli to make the use of bigger sensors, you have to use lenses of same aperture. Otherwise you will have the benefit of megapixels only, size of sensor becomes valueless
@@fahminrazin8969 it’s not just size of sensor, it’s 16 bit color, depth of field for medium format is different in terms of the way it renders and also resolution. Combination of all three present a different photograph for those that want it. Seeing on a RUclips video won’t be the same thing, but everyone I’ve shown the images in person to were very impressed.
You made me want to go the Singapore Zoo as much as buying the lens
Haha thanks
Well wildlife not in zoos tend to move around alot and move fast.
Depends on the animal and their state of mind.
nice i would love to see comparison of the same images next to z8 or z9 with a 400 mm
Medium format has a different look
To be fair medium format these days is barely medium format, doesn’t seem that exciting it’s just like 35mm+
Depends. If you are into 16 bit colors and large format it’s still exciting but yes to some degree I agree with you. Full frame has caught up
Yeah it's definitely a step up though. The combination of the slightly larger sensor and some of the exceptional glass is clearly different to even the best FF but it's not as dramatic as 35mm vs say 6x7.
@@btonellilol 'large format'
That's not 500mm; a 500mm lens is 20" from objective to sensor. Grab your tape measure if you don't believe me- what you've got there is some kind of 500mm "equivalent", which is marketing-speak for "basically we stuck a magnifying lens in there somewhere to sell this thing to birdwatchers".
If you look at the background blur in your images you'll see that you're not getting the smooth bokeh of a quality 500mm prime lens. Zoo shots normally look amazing because the subject is close and immobile; but your sample pictures look like garbage, 16-bit color or not.
If you watched the video I said it’s equivalent to a 400mm in full frame. Obviously you skimmed over that part.
Second, everyone has a preference in what they like or dislike. Calling someone’s images garbage shows a lot about you as a person. That is not tolerated on my channel. It’s easy to sit behind a keyboard and comment, show your work to thousands of people and then let’s see where the chips fall. Take care
Hmm wow there’s some clever mathematics there and some informative commentary. Garbage is a relative term that can be applied negatively with little IQ, actually often little IQ. Bobby, I believe I speak for many of your subscribers when I say thankfully your history of contributions on RUclips outweigh such trolling from someone whose contributions literally equal 28 seconds of birds twittering, with little bokeh might I add 😉
A tele Lens is always shorter than fx 500mm ! That is why it is called a tele Lens, else it would have been a long Lens in terms. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telephoto_lens
