    Today I’m riding with Shane Watts. Since we are just morons and he doesn’t need his KTM 150SX to keep up with us, he’s brought his TT-R230 again. Shane is a past world Champ, mostly on 125cc bikes back in the 90s. I’ve ridden with Shane a number of times and he is incredible. Such an accomplished rider. This is the first time that I’ve ridden his Yamaha. I nearly killed myself on it, although I keep it together pretty well in the video.
    Karen (my wife), Kaylee, Konnor Kase, and Kenzie (the kids) thank you for using these links. It is one of the ways we are supporting our family right now.

    Had to ride a 230 for about 3 years because its all I could afford at the time. Still sent it as big as all the guys on brand new ktms. Have a yz 250 now and I’m 100% faster BUT; on a bike like that it’s all just about riding your bike. Suspension tuning and tire compounds mean nothing if your just trying to have fun on your bike. Just my two cents 🤷🏼‍♂️

    Shane Watts could ride a PW 50 faster than most pros now on the GNCC circuit. I watched him run a different KTM at each GNCC back in the day. And he won each time. He’s a legend.

    After buying an older TTR230 for my daughter, a friend commented that I went nearly as fast on it as my KTM 250XCW and 300 XC. This led me to backing off the power valve springs on both of the KTM's to the green springs. Now I am quicker on the KTM's. My skill level rewards momentum over acceleration.

      @keshmo12 5 лет назад +4

      Yeah they're awesome trail bikes. First gear is so low it's great. You can go up hills without throttle! The worst part of mine was the suspension and they're a little bit heavy but they're short so they don't feel heavy.

  • @RobertKehl
    @RobertKehl 5 лет назад +3

    Yeah Shane was known for riding under powered bikes and beating the competition. I’m surprised he even would ride with you guys. :).
    My son and I took his two day school in California. My son was one of the fastest in the group and I was one of the slowest. When it was time to give out the certificate of completion Shane walked over to our trailer and told my son he was a good rider and handed him his cert. He looked over at me with disappointment but reluctantly handed me my certificate lol. I would recommend anyone to take his two day class. He beat you up with two 8 hour days of awesome fundamental training.

    TTR with suspension upgrade is just a tractor. You won't go fast or even sometimes stop fast but there have been no hills my TTR couldn't pull or lug through. Low maintainence and sips fuel. Last 30 mile ride it used .3 gallons lol my KDX used 1.2 gallons for the same loop.

    Just ride the 230 wide open. It only has severe fork flex and it bottoms out on everything until the spokes explode. It was only meant to putt around on. What do you need brakes for? In the old days the brakes just failed a few minutes into the first ride.

    I had a ttr230 and it was ok. For me it felt heavy and underpowered but felt like a tractor on the trails. Suspension was too soft and the bike just kind of wallowed into the rough stuff. A Honda crf230 or 250f is a better bike imo. I just got a Gasgas 300 and love it. But I also want another reliable play bike to have and that would be a crf250f or an old xr250r or xr400r
    The 300 it's amazing on trails but there's nothing like air cooled engine for reliability

      @chadsummers7981 2 года назад +1

      I’m not Kyle but I can answer even 2 years later idc, he’s in Colorado, the Rockies, the motor on the ttr is a sout sohc 2v that produces 17 hp from the factory which is quite weak for advanced riders, if your a beginner or a small framed individual this is a good bike for you, plus with rejetting and exhaust you can get these things up to 25hp and they really do rip, great low maintenance reliable, strong bike
